Farrell impressed in patches as Lions steamroller Reds
As against the Western Force in Perth on Saturday, the tourists had their line breached in the first quarter before dominating the contest and running up the score.
"Impressive in patches again," Farrell said. "We played some nice rugby after we settled down. I think the first 10 minutes, the Reds started pretty well and we'd a few errors on top of one another.
"But I thought we was nice and composed, even though it was a bit stop start for us as far as continuity is concerned. But we ended up playing some nice rugby in the end."
Difficulties can be expected when you are bringing players from four nations together over a short period and issues at the restart, handling errors as well as a couple of scrum penalties will not have pleased Farrell.
Scrumhalf Jamison Gibson-Park returned from a glute injury that ruled him out of the loss to Argentina and the win over Western Force, however, working well with Finn Russell in what is expected to be the test halves combination.
Once they settled, the Lions looked impressive in attack and defence, holding their opposition scoreless after halftime for the second match in a row.
"We weren't happy with the start of our game," said Farrell.
"I think we started a little bit better in the second half. And I think the quality of the bench and the example that the benches have set in the other two games has been top draw.
"Competition for places, that's what we're after, isn't it? And everyone's got to play right through to the final whistle."
The Lions lost scrumhalf Tomos Williams for the remainder of the tour with a hamstring injury and now have concerns over fullback Elliot Daly, who was replaced with what looked like a wrist injury against the Reds.
The experienced England outside back has been among the better performers in the first three matches of his fourth Lions tour and scored two tries against the Force.

Meanwhile, Bulldogs hooker Reed Mahoney will leave Belmore at the end of the season after signing a three-year deal with the North Queensland Cowboys. Bailey Hayward is tipped to play at dummy-half in 2026 once Mahoney departs.

Emma Raducanu has urged Wimbledon chiefs to address what she sees as a major flaw in this year's Championships after her third-round exit to world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka on Friday night. Raducanu bowed out in straight sets after a gutsy display on Centre Court, losing 7-6, 6-4 in a match that lasted just under two hours. But the British star left SW19 with a pointed message for the tournament's organisers, calling on them to review the accuracy of the new Electronic Line Calling (ELC) system. Wimbledon has introduced ELC for the first time this summer, removing traditional line judges in favour of fully automated calls. However, Raducanu believes the system has made 'very wrong' calls throughout her run, echoing concerns raised by Jack Draper and Carlos Alcaraz earlier in the tournament. 'It's kind of disappointing, the tournament here, that the calls can be so wrong,' Raducanu said after her defeat. 'For the most part, they've been okay. It's just, like, I've had a few in my other matches, too, that have been very wrong. So yeah, I don't know. Hopefully they can kind of fix that.' Raducanu queried a tight call during the first set against Sabalenka, appearing visibly frustrated as she discussed the decision with the chair umpire. It was one of several moments across her three matches where she felt let down by the technology. Draper, Britain's men's No 1, and world No 2 Alcaraz have also questioned the system, with Draper saying: 'I don't think it's 100 per cent accurate, in all honesty.' Alcaraz, during his win over Jan-Lennard Struff, told the umpire: 'I would have asked for a challenge… I'm not sure about some calls.' Wimbledon is not using line judges at this year's Championships, having replaced them with AI Tournament director Jamie Baker defended the technology, insisting it is 'as accurate and reliable' as officiating has ever been in tennis. Raducanu had hoped to continue her impressive run at SW19 after comfortable wins over Mimi Xu and Marketa Vondrousova, and she gave Sabalenka a stern test.
