"I kept refreshing all afternoon, but the screen just wouldn't load," said an aspirant from east Delhi. Like her, countless others were locked out of the system due to server glitches that marred the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) results this year. According to one parent, the official CUET website crashed shortly after the results were announced and remained inaccessible for nearly four to five hours. Many users encountered repeated errors such as "invalid authentication" or "invalid admission number" and were even unable to reset their passwords due to the system's failure. "The login troubles persisted for most of the afternoon, despite NTA's tweet announcing the results around 2.30pm. Students began accessing their scores only by 5 or 5.30pm," said a parent. Uvika, an aspirant, attempted to check her score in the afternoon. She claimed that till 4 pm, "it wasn't out." Another student, Chetna Sharma from Gurgaon, managed to access her results late, but not without considerable struggle. She confirmed that her result "came late." She described encountering various errors while trying to log in: "Like, it was showing invalid earlier. Sometimes the application number, sometimes the password, both were invalid. " Chetna started trying to check her result in the afternoon and made three or four attempts before she could access her result at 6 pm. Another student, Pratishtha, who also tried to log in as soon as the notification for the results came, said, "I tried and tried. First, the website did not load, and then, it did not take my credentials. It was only after at least two hours that I could access my result." The frustration was compounded by repeated delays in the announcement of the result itself, as students were initially told to expect results by the end of June. Parents noted that other national exams like NEET released both the final answer key and results on the same day. One parent remarked, "It's amazing that they still can't get their website in order." These delays have real consequences for families, many of whom are forced to hedge their bets with private university admissions. Several parents reported paying fees at private universities just to ensure their children have a backup option. While UGC rules mandate substantial fee refunds if classes haven't begun, the uncertainty still leads to financial strain—especially for families for whom even a 10% deduction matters. "We've paid fees at two, three places, but now DU is so delayed we barely have time to plan — how do we shift a child to another city like Bengaluru or Chennai without time to prepare?" said one parent.

‘Did not imagine I'd be among the top scorers'

A resident of east Delhi's Krishna Nagar, Jain had always dreamt of enjoying his college days in Delhi University's coveted North Campus. (HT PHOTO) Jain, 17, who is the topper from Delhi-National Capital Territory (NCT), said that while the exam had gone well, securing a rank was beyond his imagination. 'My exams had gone great so I was expecting a good score. However, I was really worried after NTA released the answer key,' Jain said, adding, 'My aim was to score a decent score to help me get into my dream college. I had not thought that I would be one of the top scorers.' A resident of east Delhi's Krishna Nagar, Jain had always dreamt of enjoying his college days in Delhi University's coveted North Campus. Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) was the ultimate dream, said Jain, who wants to pursue a degree in economics. Jain completed his schooling from Bhai Parmanand Vidya Mandir. He attributed his success to his parents and teachers. 'My teachers were always available to help with queries. I would not have achieved this success without my parents.' Following months of hard work and anxiety, Jain said he finally looks forward to enjoying his college life, attend annual festivals and make new friends, while also focusing on his career. 'The examination days were stressful. I will be celebrating this success with my family members and friends who kept cheering me and helped me cope with all the stress. Today is a great day,' Jain told HT on Friday. CUET UG provides a single-window opportunity to students seeking admission in central universities across the country. According to data shared by NTA, 13,54,699 students had registered for the exam of which 10,71,735 students appeared for the exams conducted from May 13 to June 4, 2025.

CUET-UG results: Lone candidate got top score across 4 subjects; dip in aspirants and universities this year
In the fourth year of CUET-UG serving as a common entrance exam for undergraduate courses, results announced on Friday saw only a single candidate with a top score in four out of five subjects. Besides, fewer candidates appeared for the exam and fewer universities participated this year as compared to previous years. Out of the top 20 scorers this year, more than half – 11 – are female candidates, including the only candidate who secured a 100 percentile in four out of five subjects, according to an official in the National Testing Agency (NTA). In terms of other high scores: – The top three aggregate scores in five subjects this year were 1225.93, followed by 1210.10, and 1205.17. – A total of 17 candidates scored 100 percentile in three subjects this year. – 150 candidates saw a top score in two subjects. – 2,679 candidates secured a top score in one subject. In 2024, when candidates could write their exams in six subjects, 63 candidates secured full marks in four subjects, while five candidates secured full marks in five subjects, according to the official. That year also saw 558 candidates secure full marks in three subjects, while 3,014 candidates secured a full score in two subjects, and 14,941 candidates secured a full score in one subject. In 2023, a total of 195 candidates scored a 100 percentile in at least four subjects; this figure was 114 in 2022, which was the first time the exam was held. A total of 10.72 lakh candidates appeared for the exam this year, down from 11.16 lakh in 2023 and 11.14 lakh in 2024. A lower number of candidates appeared for the exam in its first edition in 2022 – 9.68 lakh. The number of women who appeared for the exam this year (5.24 lakh) has seen an uptick from 5.19 lakh last year, while the number of men who appeared for CUET-UG dropped to 5.48 lakh this year from 5.94 lakh last year. The NTA official pointed to a few differences in this year's exam compared to last year. First, students picked five subjects to write their papers instead of six, and the number of subjects offered was down to 37 from last year's 63. The test duration for all subjects was a uniform 60 minutes this year, while a few papers had a test duration of 45 minutes last year. This year, the test was only offered as a computer-based test, unlike last year when it was offered in hybrid mode — both pen-and-paper and computer-based. CUET-UG, which was held from May 13 to June 4 this year, is used for undergraduate admissions to central universities, and participating state and private universities. There are a total of 239 participating universities this year, down from 283 last year, and 249 in 2023. In 2022, the exam was for admissions across 90 universities. The computer-based test saw a few glitches this year. While a technical glitch in the server delayed the exam at several centres across the country on May 26, the exam on May 13 and 14 at a centre in Srinagar was rescheduled on account of a technical glitch.
