King Charles left 'appalled' by Trump comment as aides warn he may break royal protocol

King Charles is due to meet with US President Trump during his second state visit to the UK in September but is reportedly feeling "concerned" about their reunion.
King Charles is said to be "very concerned" that US President Donald Trump may launch into a huge rant about immigration during his second state visit to the UK in September, according to an insider. The claim comes shortly after Trump sent Prime Minister Keir Starmer some "advice" regarding the ongoing small boat crisis.

During his private visit to Scotland, the US President warned the Prime Minister that those coming across on dinghies are "bad people", but praised efforts to end crossings. After touching down in Scotland on Friday, the 79-year-old made headlines after he declared that illegal migration is a "horrible invasion" that is "killing Europe".

Civil servants have now issued warnings that he may break protocol and make politicised comments during his visit to England in a few weeks. Trump is set to deliver the traditional speech at the state banquet held in his honour by the King and Queen when he arrives, the Express reports.

A source close to the monarch told the Daily Beast: "Charles has spent his entire life promoting tolerance and compassion.
"He will be appalled by what Trump said on Friday, which seems to be entirely driven by his domestic agenda, and will be very concerned about the possibility of a repeat of Trump's outburst in September."

The insider added that royal aides are concerned the US president may provide an impromptu interview to the media with political statements, which could put King Charles in a difficult position.
They said: "If Trump starts sounding off about the evils of immigration to the cameras while the King is standing next to him, the King would find that hard to take."

Trump met with First Minister John Swinney earlier today on July 29 as his four-day visit to Scotland draws to a close.
The two leaders reportedly held talks on the president's Balmedie Estate earlier for between 15 and 20 minutes, the BBC reports.
A senior Scottish Government insider said that whisky tariffs and the situation in Gaza were among the topics they discussed.

Trump opened his new course at his Aberdeenshire golf resort and referred to Swinney as a "terrific guy" during the ceremony.
The president has a strong connection to Scotland with his late mother, Mary Anne MacLeod Trump, being born on the Isle of Lewis.
Trump told the crowd during his speech how his mum returned to her homeland "religiously" every year after she emigrated to New York at the age of 18.

The president declared: "We love Scotland."
The US politician said he would play a round on his new golf course "very quickly" before returning to Washington DC to "put out fires all over the world".

US appeals court keeps bar on Los Angeles federal immigration arrests

Aug 2 (Reuters) - A federal appeals court late on Friday affirmed a lower court's decision temporarily barring U.S. government agents from making immigration-related arrests in Los Angeles without probable cause. Rejecting the Trump administration's request to pause the lower court's order, the three-judge appeals panel ruled that the plaintiffs would likely be able to prove that federal agents had carried out arrests based on peoples' appearance, language and where they lived or worked. President Donald Trump called National Guard troops and U.S. Marines into Los Angeles in June in response to protests against the immigration raids, marking an extraordinary use of military force to support civilian police operations within the United States. The city of Los Angeles and other Southern California municipalities joined a lawsuit filed in June by the American Civil Liberties Union accusing federal agents of using unlawful police tactics such as racial profiling to meet immigration arrest quotas set by the administration. A California judge last month blocked the Trump administration from racially profiling immigrants as it seeks deportation targets and from denying immigrants' right to access to lawyers during their detention. In Friday's unsigned decision, the judges of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit largely rejected the administration's appeal of the temporary restraining order. The judges agreed with the lower court in blocking federal officials from detaining people based solely on "apparent race or ethnicity," speaking Spanish or accented English, or being at locations such as a "bus stop, car wash, tow yard, day laborer pick up site, agricultural site, etc." The Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside business hours. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the order a victory for the city. "The Temporary Restraining Order that has been protecting our communities from immigration agents using racial profiling and other illegal tactics when conducting their cruel and aggressive enforcement raids and sweeps will remain in place for now," she said in a statement. Mohammad Tajsar, senior staff attorney at the ACLU Foundation of Southern California, welcomed the ruling in statement: "This decision is further confirmation that the administration's paramilitary invasion of Los Angeles violated the Constitution and caused irreparable injury across the region."

CHRISTOPHER BUCKTIN: 'Naked man hides in sunbed after trying to burn down gym'

From naked alleged arsonists to robot rabbits, your round-up of this week's bonkers news from across the Pond Donald Trump has once again proven he is the most mathematically illiterate US president to ever walk the face of the earth. ‌ In a rambling speech, the US leader rattled off a series of impossible promises that would make even a calculator give up and walk off the job. ‌ 'We will have reduced drug prices by 1,000%, by 1,100%, 1,200%, 1,300%, 1,400%, 700%, 600%,' Trump proudly announced, as if counting backwards from reality. ‌ 'Not 30% or 40% or 50%. But numbers the likes of which you've never even dreamed of.' He's not wrong, because no one with a functioning brain has ever dreamed of prices dropping more than 100%, unless the plan is for pharmacies to start paying customers to take pills. Critics were quick to point out that the math defies every economic principle short of science fiction. But in Trump's world, facts are fake news and maths is just another Deep State conspiracy. ‌ *** Florida deputies were called to a Planet Fitness gym in San Carlos Park after a naked man allegedly tried to burn the place down. Henry Antunez-Alvarado, 25, had reportedly been asked to leave at closing time but instead he stripped down, ran amok, and attempted a bizarre blend of yoga, parkour and arson. Security footage shows him streaking through multiple rooms, climbing into the ceiling like a raccoon, and eventually hiding - still stark naked - inside a tanning bed. ‌ Deputies charged him with indecent exposure, arson, criminal mischief, and giving false ID. Planet Fitness is famous for promoting a 'Judgement-Free Zone', but this might be pushing it. *** It's happy hour by mistake. High Noon has issued a voluntary recall after some of its vodka seltzer cans were accidentally labelled as energy drinks. ‌ The mix-up, affecting packs shipped between July 21 and 23, has officials worried that unsuspecting gym-goers could chug a cocktail instead of a caffeine boost. *** Officials at a South Carolina nuclear facility got more than a sting when they discovered a wasp nest emitting 100,000 disintegrations per minute - a moderately high level of radiation. The Department of Energy report says the glowing hive was found near a tank at the Savannah River Site and is considered 'legacy contamination', meaning it's haunted by radiation past, not present. ‌ So no, the wasps didn't break into the reactor... but they are now officially more dangerous than your average garden nuisance. *** In a move straight out of a sci-fi wildlife documentary, University of Florida researchers have unleashed 40 solar-powered, remote-controlled robot bunnies into South Florida. Stuffed with heaters and motors instead of fluff, these fake marsh rabbits are designed to mimic the favourite snack of Burmese pythons, the massive invasive snakes that have turned the Everglades into their personal buffet since slithering in via the exotic pet trade. They hope the robot rabbits will help catch some of the serpents to stop them from breeding. ‌ *** Sometimes sharing a famous name isn't all it's cracked up to be. Geoffrey Epstein is running for mayor of Framingham, Massachusetts and no, not that Epstein. Despite being very much alive and not a disgraced financier, Geoff still gets flooded with online comments like 'show us the list'. One internet geek even posted his campaign flyer asking, 'Is this guy for real?' Supporters were quick to defend him: 'He's got good ideas about the city's finances,' said one. Just, maybe skip the name tags.

Gov Gavin Newsom launches mean attack on Karoline Leavitt as he blasts White House's $200million ballroom plan

Governor Gavin Newsom took a break from managing the Golden State to launch a biting and bizarre attack on White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt as she announced President Trump's plans to construct a new $200million ballroom at The White House. The digital stunt, posted from Newsom's official X account, featured a photoshopped image of Effie Trinket, the flamboyant elite character from The Hunger Games known for her garish clothes and callous privilege. In the image Trinket could be seen holding up ballroom renderings inside the White House press room just as Leavitt had done earlier in the day. The California governor likened Leavitt to the dystopian aristocrat while casting Trump's ballroom as the architectural equivalent of 'let them eat cake'. 'While all the Districts pay extra for groceries and everyday goods, the White House is excited to announce that the Capitol is creating a grand ballroom for opulent parties! May the odds be ever in your favor!!!' Newsom wrote, echoing snobby language from the popular franchise. But the post quickly backfired on Newsom with Trump supporters rushing to defend Leavitt. 'It's not being paid for by taxpayers - but you knew that,' chimed in one X user. 'Trump and donors are footing the bill, not taxpayers. You seem to have *purposely* left that out,' explained another. 'Opulent parties? Like you and your cronies at the French Laundry during COVID?' jabbed another, referencing one of Newsom's biggest missteps during Covid when he was pictured dining with a large group of friends despite pandemic restrictions. But the California Democrat wasn't done. He followed up with a tweet mocking the Trump administration's priorities. 'They're more interested in defending their ballroom than the 17 million they kicked off health care.' Then in a third tweet dripping with sarcasm from his personal account, Newsom responded directly to the White House announcement: 'Oh thank god - this is what the American people were desperately pleasing with you to do!' Leavitt, for her part, remained focused on the policy as she unveiled renderings for the planned 90,000-square-foot State Ballroom, detailing the privately funded construction project she said would allow the White House to host major diplomatic events without resorting to makeshift tents on the South Lawn. 'The White House is one of the most beautiful and historic buildings in the world,' Leavitt said. 'But it does not have a space that can accommodate major functions without installing large and unsightly tents 100 yards from the main building entrance. 'This ballroom will change that,' she added, noting the facility would hold up to 650 guests, a massive upgrade from the East Room's 200-person capacity. She said construction would begin in September, with completion expected 'well before the end of President Trump's term.' The California governor mocked the White House defending the planned ballroom despite none of the money coming from public funds In another sarcastic tweet Newsom continued to mock the announcement of the new ballroom For his part, President Trump embraced the ballroom plan with his usual bravado. 'We're good at building,' he said on Thursday. 'I'm good at building things, and we'll get it built quickly and on time. It'll be beautiful - top of the line.' The ballroom, he said, would reflect the design elegance of Mar-a-Lago and Turnberry, two of his signature properties, and would replace the East Wing - home to the First Lady's office - which will be temporarily relocated and modernized. Despite Newsom's implication, taxpayer dollars will not fund the project. Leavitt confirmed that Trump and private donors will cover the entire $200 million cost, although donor names were not disclosed. The ballroom will be built just south of the main mansion, and renderings show a white-columned neoclassical structure that mimics the White House's famous façade. It will be the first major structural addition to the Executive Mansion in nearly a century. The East Wing will not be demolished, but repurposed during the construction period. Leavitt reiterated the ballroom's diplomatic utility. 'This new facility will give the United States a world-class venue to host global leaders with the dignity and grandeur that such occasions deserve.' White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles emphasized the administration's commitment to architectural integrity.
