"Forcing Blended Fuel...": Consumer Slams Ethanol Petrol Policy

NDTV12-07-2025
As India pushes forward with its plan to blend 20% ethanol into petrol (E20) by 2025-26, a consumer has publicly voiced strong opposition, raising questions about the fuel's impact on vehicle performance and consumer choice.
Venkatesh Alla, a user on X (formerly Twitter), criticised the move, calling it 'outright fraud' and threatening legal action.
The user, who has even in the past questioned the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) programme, wrote, 'If anything happens to my vehicle due to Ethanol blended (Adulterated) Petrol, I will not hesitate to drag every single official in the Petroleum Ministry to court. We have every legal and constitutional right to do so.'
He further alleged that the government was enforcing fuel policies without adequate consumer choice or transparency. 'Forcing blended fuel on us, when our vehicles aren't even designed for it, is outright fraud. You have no authority to dictate what fuel we must use. Pure Petrol and Blended Petrol must be sold separately. Let the consumer decide based on their vehicle. Who the hell gave you the right to damage our vehicles in the name of policy?' he wrote and even tagged the petroleum ministry.
Here's the complete post:
If anything happens to my vehicle due to Ethanol blended (Adultered) Petrol, I will not hesitate to drag every single official in the Petroleum Ministry to court. We have every legal and constitutional right to do so. Forcing blended fuel on us, when our vehicles aren't even…

The EBP Programme, which seeks to cut India's dependence on fossil fuels and promote cleaner mobility, has seen significant progress in recent years. According to a NDTV Profit report, ethanol blending averaged 12.06% in FY 2022-23 and rose to 14.6% in FY 2023-24. By February 2025, it had reached 19.6%, with the 20% threshold crossed shortly after. In the last financial year, India blended 7.07 billion litres of ethanol, with oil marketing companies allocating nearly 9.96 billion litres.
In another post earlier this month, Mr Alla lashed out at Indian Oil, saying, 'How much ethanol are you dumping into petrol?'
He went on to add, 'Car mileage has tanked for the past year! We're forced to pay full price for petrol that's 20% adulterated; this is nothing but an organised scam. The business and the government, both are acting like shameless thieves, looting citizens in broad daylight!'
Hey @IndianOilcl, how much ethanol are you dumping into petrol da? Car mileage has tanked for the past year! We're forced to pay full price for petrol that's 20% adulterated, this is nothing but an organised scam. The business and the government, both are acting like shameless…
— Venkatesh Alla (@venkat_fin9) July 7, 2025
While the government continues to project the ethanol push as a cornerstone of India's green transition, critics like Mr Alla argue the environmental benefits do not justify the impact on vehicle performance and consumer rights.

"One Of The Craziest Moments Of My Life": Akhil Patel On Serving Chai To PM Modi And Starmer

Indian-origin tea entrepreneur Akhil Patel had a day to remember at Chequers, the official country residence of the UK Prime Minister, on July 24. Mr Patel served a steaming cup of masala chai to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Keir Starmer. Photographs shared by PM Modi on X (formerly Twitter) captured both leaders waiting for their tea at Patel's stall. Dressed in a traditional kurta and Nehru jacket, Mr Patel was captured pouring masala chai from a kettle into paper cups. 'Chai Pe Charcha' with PM Keir Starmer at stronger India-UK ties! @Keir_Starmer — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) July 24, 2025 Now, in an Instagram clip, the founder of Amala Chai gave his followers 'a quick recap of a surreal day'. 'I just got on Modi's Instagram!' he began, clearly astonished. Detailing the invitation, Mr Patel said he was asked to serve tea at Chequers 'to celebrate the UK-India free trade deal.' 'As one of the few selected brands there, little did I know I'd be serving chai to huge UK and Indian ministers and Modi and Starmer,' he said. Among those who visited his stall were UK Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds and Health Secretary Wes Streeting. 'They were loving it, coming back for multiple cups,' said Patel, adding that even India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar sampled his tea. Recalling the high point of the day, Patel said, 'Then the big boys started coming my way, walking by the side of me and standing right in front of me, asking for a cup of chai.' He was referring to PM Modi and Keir Starmer. 'I served the chai, and then I dropped the line, 'from one chaiwala to another',' he added. 'Possibly one of the craziest moments of my life, I just served chai to Modi and Starmer, and Starmer loved it,' he added. His Instagram caption read, 'A quick recap of a surreal day. Yesterday, I was invited by @10downingstreet to serve chai at Chequers — to @narendramodi, @keirstarmer, and Indian & UK ministers. Can we just take a moment to realise how mad that is? There I was, in the UK Prime Minister's house, serving masala chai — and not one person wanted coffee. From one chaiwala to another, that was a special day. Right… I'm getting off the internet now to make a cup of chai.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Amala Chai | Masala Chai (@amala_chai) In 2019, inspired by his grandma's recipe, he founded Amala Chai. Described as "Chai That Feels Like Home," the brand's masala chai begins at the source, with single-origin tea and spices from family farms in Assam and Kerala. Since its launch six years ago, Patel's Amala Chai has grown and now serves customers at five locations across London.

Jabil investing ₹2,000 crore in manufacturing in India: Ashwini Vaishnaw

NEW DELHI: US-based Jabil 's plant in Sanand, Gujarat, is nearing completion, said Union Minister of Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday. 'Jabil is investing more than ₹2,000 crore in manufacturing silicon photonics and electronic manufacturing services in India,' Vaishnaw said in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday. 'Plant at Sanand is almost completed,' the minister added. Silicon photonics, which integrates light for high-speed communications in microelectronics, is set to cater to a wide array of sectors, including quantum computing, quantum communication, fifth-generation (5G) and 6G technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), radar, and avionics. The American vendor had last year said that it is continuing to invest in silicon photonics-based products and capabilities, beyond 800G and 1.6T, to support the increasing demands of hyperscalers and next-wave cloud and AI data center growth. Jabil serves 300 of the biggest companies globally across sectors, including smartphones, cloud equipment, healthcare, to automotive and home appliances. It employs more than 1.4 lakh employees across 100 locations in over 25 countries. Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson , via Jabil, manufactures 4G and 5G radios, RAN Compute as well as microwave equipment. Jabil is also a supplier to iPhone-maker Apple in India. Jabil Circuit , according to a recent PTI news agency report, has also emerged as the biggest beneficiary of the telecom production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. It received ₹235.87 crore as an incentive in the two fiscal years FY23 and FY24. The Central government has disbursed ₹1,162 crore under the telecom PLI till March 31. This scheme, launched on April 1, 2021, aims to boost domestic manufacturing and self-reliance in the telecom sector. It will conclude by the end of the current fiscal year (FY26). Out of 42 companies shortlisted under the scheme, 21 manufacturers have successfully received the incentives so far. The government had earmarked ₹4,115 crore for the scheme to generate an estimated ₹2.45 lakh crore in additional sales and create over 44,000 new jobs during the tenure.

What's Behind ‘Brigitte Is A Man' Buzz? How A Bizarre Claim Is Shaking Up France, Internet

Last Updated: This theory has gained traction on fringe platforms and among conspiracy theorists, pushing the French First Lady into spotlight and prompting Macron himself to respond publicly In recent years, France's political discourse has been punctuated not only by policy debates and social unrest—but also by conspiracy theories. One particularly strange and deeply offensive rumour has taken root on the French far-right internet: the claim that Brigitte Macron, the wife of President Emmanuel Macron, is a transgender woman and was born a man named Jean-Michel Trogneux. Though patently false and repeatedly debunked, this theory has gained traction on fringe platforms and among conspiracy theorists, pushing the French First Lady into unwanted media spotlight and prompting the French president himself to respond publicly. What's more alarming is how this baseless claim has spawned a wider online movement called 'transinvestigation"—an online practice of scrutinising public figures' appearances and biographies to 'expose" their supposed 'true gender." Let's break down the origins of this theory, how it reflects a growing trend of transphobia disguised as 'investigative curiosity," and why it signals deeper cultural and political anxieties in contemporary France. Where Did the Rumour Begin? The conspiracy theory started gaining steam in late 2021, when a French woman named Natacha Rey, who describes herself as an independent journalist, published a lengthy article alleging that Brigitte Macron was not born female. The piece was full of speculative photographs, strange inferences, and vague references to inconsistencies in her biography. The core of the claim? That Brigitte Macron was born 'Jean-Michel Trogneux," and later transitioned into a woman—and that this was covered up by French elites to protect President Macron's image. This theory emerged from a subset of conspiracy theorists in France who blend anti-establishment thinking, anti-LGBTQ+ views, and deep distrust of mainstream media. It drew attention from far-right bloggers and QAnon-style digital communities, eventually going viral enough to trend on French Twitter (now X) under hashtags like #JeanMichelTrogneux. Brigitte Macron's Response—And Legal Action In December 2021, Brigitte Macron responded by filing a defamation lawsuit against the individuals and outlets spreading the theory. The First Lady has largely avoided public commentary on personal attacks, but this theory struck a nerve — likely because it not only targeted her but also invoked a level of transphobia and misogyny that was deeply personal. President Macron himself condemned the rumour in a 2023 interview, calling it 'an attack on truth, decency, and democracy." He warned that the spread of such theories could have damaging consequences for civil discourse and vulnerable communities. What Is 'Transinvestigation'? The Brigitte Macron case is not an isolated one. It is part of a broader online trend known as transinvestigation—a pseudoscientific internet movement where people 'investigate" the gender identity of celebrities, politicians, and athletes, often suggesting they are secretly transgender. The term has gained traction in English- and French-language conspiracy communities. Participants obsessively dissect body language, bone structure, clothing choices, and even childhood photographs to claim that someone is not the gender they say they are. It is not just Brigitte Macron. Other public figures—like Michelle Obama, Jacinda Ardern, and even Meghan Markle—have been targeted by transinvestigators online. The movement is deeply transphobic, rooted in the belief that being transgender is deceptive or sinister, and that society is being manipulated by a secret cabal promoting gender fluidity. What makes the Brigitte Macron theory uniquely dangerous is that it ties these transphobic themes directly into national identity and elite politics, painting the Macron family as the ultimate symbol of globalist deceit. Why Is This Happening In France? France has long been a battleground for cultural and identity politics. On one hand, it prides itself on its laïcité (secularism), universalism, and strict separation of public and private life. On the other, the country is deeply divided on issues of gender, race, immigration, and religion. In recent years, French political discourse has seen: A rise in anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment, especially from far-right figures like Éric Zemmour and Marine Le Pen. Increased attacks on 'wokeism" and gender ideology, often imported from US culture wars. Growing influence of online misinformation and conspiracy theories, accelerated by platforms like Telegram and X (formerly Twitter). Within this context, the 'Brigitte is a man" theory fits into a broader narrative of moral panic, where fears about gender roles, family structures, and national decline converge. What's The Impact On The Trans Community? While the theory is absurd on its face, its ripple effects are serious. It has led to: Online harassment campaigns against transgender people in France. Increased media visibility for fringe theories that question gender identity. A normalization of transphobic language and 'gender policing" under the guise of scepticism. The trans community in France—already marginalised—has expressed concerns that such conspiracy theories make them more vulnerable to hate crimes and social exclusion. Activists note that these theories are not just 'harmless trolling," but part of a larger project to delegitimise gender diversity and bodily autonomy. What's Macron's Bigger Problem? For the French President, this theory is more than a personal attack—it's emblematic of a deeper challenge facing democratic societies: the rise of post-truth politics. His government has previously introduced laws to curb online hate speech and disinformation, but critics argue that platforms still do too little to stem the tide of viral falsehoods. Moreover, when conspiracy theories become so mainstream that they enter presidential debates and courtroom proceedings, it raises the stakes for how societies handle truth and evidence. The fear is that if public figures can be smeared with complete fabrications—and those lies gain traction—it erodes trust in institutions and the media. So Why Is It Still Spreading? The theory persists because it is emotionally resonant for those who already distrust power. It confirms biases, fuels outrage, and offers a sense of community among believers. Algorithms on social media often reward emotionally charged content, even if it is false. It's also spread by some who see it less as a belief and more as a symbolic protest—a way to humiliate the Macrons, mock elites, and reject 'political correctness." What This Reveals About Our Times The 'Brigitte is a man" theory seems offensive, absurd, and entirely fabricated—but it is also a mirror of the political moment we live in. It reveals how misinformation can be weaponised in the age of viral media, how transphobia disguises itself as curiosity or scepticism, and how public discourse can be derailed by toxic digital culture. Ultimately, this conspiracy theory says less about Brigitte Macron and more about the society that entertains such lies, even for a moment. It is a call for better media literacy, stronger protections for marginalised communities, and a renewed commitment to truth in the public square. top videos View all About the Author Shilpy Bisht Shilpy Bisht, Deputy News Editor at News18, writes and edits national, world and business stories.
