IGP granted leave to initiate second contempt proceeding against Papagomo
KUALA LUMPUR : The High Court has granted Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain leave to commence a second committal proceeding against blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris over a video he published on social media a day after apologising to Razarudin in court.
Judicial commissioner Gan Techiong fixed the application to be heard on an inter-partes basis on June 30.
The application will be heard together with an earlier committal proceeding brought by Razarudin against Wan Azri over the latter's purported failure to comply with an injunction order.
Razarudin's counsel S Raam Kumar earlier submitted that Wan Azri's remarks in the video, published on TikTok and YouTube, indicated that the apology he tendered to both the court and Razarudin on April 30 lacked remorse.
'The apology made by the defendant on April 30 was intended to deceive this honourable court and the plaintiff and to give a false impression that the defendant was remorseful for his actions,' the lawyer said, adding that Wan Azri's actions were tantamount to contempt of court.
Razarudin filed a RM3 million lawsuit against Wan Azri on Dec 27 last year over alleged defamation, which also involved Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
On Jan 10, Razarudin secured an injunction order prohibiting Wan Azri or his agents from publishing or disseminating statements defamatory of Razarudin on any social media platform until the defamation suit is resolved.
On Feb 10, Razarudin obtained leave of the High Court to initiate committal proceedings against Wan Azri over his failure to comply with the injunction order.

Search operation on for man believed to have fallen into Sungai Muar
TANGKAK, July 18 — A 62-year-old man is feared to have fallen into Sungai Muar from a bridge along Jalan Panchor-Grisek near here yesterday. Tangkak police chief Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said the police received a report of the incident at 8.54 am from the victim's son after he was unable to contact his father. 'The victim drove off in a grey Mazda CX-5, which a member of the public later found,' Roslan said in a statement. ‘We are not prisoners of the past': Bung Moktar says Sabah Umno focused on future ahead of state polls, not 2022 drama
KOTA KINABALU, July 18 — Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin says the party is focused on moving forward, despite attempts to revive old political narratives ahead of the state election. He said this in response to recent remarks by former minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, who had touched on events that unfolded in 2022. 'As a senior leader in Umno and my long-time friend, Datuk Rahman has every right to express his personal views. In a party that believes in democracy, such openness is part of our political maturity,' Bung said in a statement. He said the differences of opinion that arose between them back then were normal in politics. 'What matters is how we resolve them. Datuk Rahman knows that the decision taken at the time was not personal, but the result of a collective leadership consensus in Sabah Umno after careful consideration of all implications,' Bung added, stressing that the episode is now behind them. 'We respect the past, but we are not prisoners of it,' he said. He also took a swipe at certain quarters in the media, accusing them of trying to spin the old issue for their own narrative. 'Let me be clear. Sabah Umno is united, focused and fully committed as one team heading into the coming state election (PRN17). 'We are ready with solid grassroots machinery, renewed energy and a clear agenda to restore dignity and deliver effective governance under a strong national leadership,' he said. He added that in today's political landscape whether in Sabah, Malaysia, or globally the public values leaders who offer solutions, not those who remain stuck in the past. 'That is why Sabah Umno chooses to be part of the solution, part of the future,' he said. — The Borneo Post
