IGP granted leave to initiate second contempt proceeding against Papagomo
KUALA LUMPUR : The High Court has granted Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain leave to commence a second committal proceeding against blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris over a video he published on social media a day after apologising to Razarudin in court.
Judicial commissioner Gan Techiong fixed the application to be heard on an inter-partes basis on June 30.
The application will be heard together with an earlier committal proceeding brought by Razarudin against Wan Azri over the latter's purported failure to comply with an injunction order.
Razarudin's counsel S Raam Kumar earlier submitted that Wan Azri's remarks in the video, published on TikTok and YouTube, indicated that the apology he tendered to both the court and Razarudin on April 30 lacked remorse.
'The apology made by the defendant on April 30 was intended to deceive this honourable court and the plaintiff and to give a false impression that the defendant was remorseful for his actions,' the lawyer said, adding that Wan Azri's actions were tantamount to contempt of court.
Razarudin filed a RM3 million lawsuit against Wan Azri on Dec 27 last year over alleged defamation, which also involved Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
On Jan 10, Razarudin secured an injunction order prohibiting Wan Azri or his agents from publishing or disseminating statements defamatory of Razarudin on any social media platform until the defamation suit is resolved.
On Feb 10, Razarudin obtained leave of the High Court to initiate committal proceedings against Wan Azri over his failure to comply with the injunction order.

Search operation on for man believed to have fallen into Sungai Muar
TANGKAK, July 18 — A 62-year-old man is feared to have fallen into Sungai Muar from a bridge along Jalan Panchor-Grisek near here yesterday. KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 — Police have launched an investigation into a viral claim made by a Taiwanese woman alleging she was extorted by police officers during a roadblock in SS2, Petaling Jaya, near here. Petaling Jaya District Police chief ACP Shahrulnizam Jaafar said the Facebook account owner, a Taiwanese national, alleged that she was stopped at a police roadblock and was extorted by officers on duty. 'Following that, police have initiated a full investigation under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion,' he said in a statement. Shahrulnizam also confirmed that the identity of the officers involved has been established and that investigations are ongoing.
