San Jose Sharks trade Danil Gushchin to Colorado Avalanche for forward Oskar Olausson
The San Jose Sharks made a significant roster move on Friday, July 25, 2025, acquiring Swedish forward Oskar Olausson from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for winger Danil Gushchin.
General Manager Mike Grier confirmed the trade at SAP Center in San Jose, signaling another strategic step in the Sharks' ongoing rebuild. For San Jose, the deal represents a bet on size, skill, and untapped potential as they look to reshape their forward group with high-ceiling talent.
San Jose Sharks banking on Oskar Olausson's untapped potential after parting ways with Danil Gushchin in high-upside trade
At 6-foot-2 and 181 pounds, Oskar Olausson offers a blend of size and offensive instincts that fits the Sharks' vision for a faster, more dynamic roster. A first-round selection (28th overall) by
Colorado Avalanche
in the 2021 NHL Draft, the 22-year-old has spent much of his early career in the AHL with the Colorado Eagles, where he posted 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) in 61 games last season.
He also appeared in two NHL games for the Avalanche during the 2024–25 campaign.
'Oskar is a player we've tracked for a while,' said Mike Grier when announcing the move on Friday. 'His skating, size, and scoring ability give him the tools to succeed in today's NHL, and we believe he can grow into an important piece for our forward group.'
Since turning pro, Olausson has totaled 66 points (33 goals, 33 assists) in 163 AHL games and made four NHL appearances.

On the international stage, he represented Sweden at the 2021 and 2022 World Junior Championships, helping his country secure a bronze medal in 2022 after notching five points in seven games.
Trading Danil Gushchin signals Sharks' bold bet on Oskar Olausson
In exchange, the Sharks parted ways with Danil Gushchin, a 23-year-old forward who has been a consistent offensive presence for the San Jose Barracuda. Gushchin recorded 150 points (70 goals, 80 assists) in 182 AHL games and contributed five points (two goals, three assists) in 18 NHL games with the Sharks.
'Danil's a talented player who gave us everything in his time here,' Grier noted. 'But this is an opportunity to add a former first-round pick with a skill set that complements our future plans.'
What Oskar Olausson's arrival means for the San Jose Sharks' rebuild
For Olausson, this trade offers a fresh start and a clearer NHL path than he had in Colorado's deep forward group. Before arriving in North America, he impressed in Sweden with HV71, scoring 14 goals and 27 points in 16 J20 games before making his SHL debut.
He also had a strong showing in the Ontario Hockey League, producing 39 points in 55 games between Barrie and Oshawa.
As training camp approaches, all eyes will be on whether Olausson can translate his pedigree into consistent NHL performance. For San Jose, this is more than a roster tweak—it's a calculated gamble on upside that could pay off in their long-term rebuild.

Late Martin Odegaard Penalty Gives Arsenal 3-2 Victory Over Newcastle
Martin Odegaard scored the winner from the spot in the 84th minute as Arsenal beat Newcastle 3-2 in a pre-season friendly in Singapore on Sunday. Viktor Gyokeres, the Swedish international striker signed on Saturday from Sporting Lisbon, was introduced to the crowd of more than 38,700 before kickoff. He watched from the bench as his new club won an entertaining encounter in the Singapore heat. The 27-year-old could make his debut when Arsenal take on Tottenham in Hong Kong next Thursday in another friendly. "We are increasing the quality of the squad all the time, so we're super happy to have Viktor with us," said manager Mikel Arteta. "It has been a long journey to get him here." Newcastle, who were missing striker Alexander Isak as he considers his future, scored with their first attack in the sixth minute. New signing Anthony Elanga blasted the ball into the bottom corner after meeting a cross from Sandro Tonali. But Arsenal overcame a shaky start, regaining their rhythm and control of the game. Mikel Merino levelled in the 33rd minute from Kai Havertz's flick. Arsenal were ahead two minutes later when defender Alex Murphy fumbled the ball into his own net. The Magpies almost conceded a third after the restart but had keeper Nick Pope to thank after he stopped a bicycle kick by Bukayo Saka. Against the run of play, substitute Jacob Murphy levelled for Newcastle a minute later after his shot from outside the box sneaked past David Raya. With the match seemingly headed for a draw, it was 15-year-old Max Dowman's deep run into the box, where he was clipped by Joelinton, that proved to be the game-changer. Odegaard made no mistake from the spot to give Arsenal their second win in Singapore following a 1-0 victory over AC Milan. "Playing against Newcastle today wasn't just a friendly. It was a real test," said Arteta. "It gave us the chance to raise our competitiveness and physical level. There are still things we need to work on, like how we compete, understand our positions and show the willingness to win."
