TikTok deal back on table: US President Donald Trump confirms US-China talks to start this week

US President
Donald Trump
has announced that the United States will start formal discussions with China early next week over a potential deal involving the popular short-video app TikTok, whose parent company
ByteDance
is based in Beijing.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said the talks could begin as soon as Monday or Tuesday, possibly involving President
Xi Jinping
or senior Chinese officials. 'We pretty much have a deal,' Trump claimed, though he acknowledged that China's approval would be necessary for any agreement to move forward.
The proposed deal would reportedly involve spinning off TikTok's U.S. operations into a new American-owned entity, a plan that had been in the works earlier this year but was paused after China objected to U.S. tariff hikes. Trump recently extended the deadline for ByteDance to divest TikTok's US assets to September 17.
While Trump expressed optimism, saying the deal would be 'good for China and good for us,' he also admitted uncertainty: 'I'm not confident, but I think so,' he said when asked whether China would approve the arrangement.
The renewed negotiations come amid heightened tensions over
data privacy
,
national security
, and U.S.-China tech competition. TikTok, which has over 170 million American users, has faced bipartisan scrutiny in Washington, with lawmakers pushing for a ban unless it is separated from Chinese ownership.

iPhone 17 Pro Max to feature the biggest battery ever? Fresh leak hints at major upgrades

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is without a doubt the most awaited smartphone right now. While several smartphone brands are leaning towards slimmer phones, Apple seems to be going the opposite way. A user named Instant Digital on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo has revealed some details about Apple's upcoming flagship device. Based on the latest leak, the iPhone 17 Pro Max could sport a 5,000mAh battery, which is bigger than the one on the iPhone 16 Pro Max, making it the biggest ever battery on an iPhone. This means Apple could opt for a bulky design for its top-of-the-line phone, prioritising what the users want the most – extended battery life. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is likely to have a thickness of 8.725 mm, up from 8.25 mm on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Although the size difference may seem minute, the increased thickness might allow Apple to pack in a much bigger battery. Reportedly, the new device will also offer battery life of up to 35 hours. This can also be attributed to the A19 Pro chip's efficiency gains, which means that the iPhone 17 Pro could last longer than the current Pro Max model. The iPhone 17 Pro is anticipated to have the same size as its predecessors, which means the upcoming phone may have the same battery capacity as the current gen model. Moreover, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are likely to have 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch OLED panels, which is the same size as their predecessors. Regarding the Pro models, Apple may be considering switching from titanium to aluminium in order to increase durability. According to reports, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max would include a horizontally aligned camera island that spans the width of the phone. It is anticipated that other models in the series will also adopt the redesigned camera island.

Foxconn Q2 Update: Chipmaker sees 16% jump in revenue on AI product demand, flags THESE risks going ahead

Foxconn Q2 update: Taiwan-based Foxconn or Hon Hai Precision Industry Co earned record revenue in the second quarter, driven by high demand for artificial intelligence products, while also warning about potential challenges from geopolitical issues and exchange rate fluctuations, reported news agency Reuters. The revenue of the world's largest contract electronics maker has surged 15.82% on a year-on-year basis to T$1.79 trillion, according to a company statement, cited by the agency. The company beat the T$1.7896 trillion LSEG SmartEstimate. Foxconn, Apple iPhones' largest assembler in the world and leading clients such as chipmaker Nvidia, stated that rising demand for AI-driven products has contributed to strong revenue growth for its cloud and networking products division. However, smart consumer electronics, including iPhones, reported 'flattish' year-on-year revenue growth impacted by exchange rates, the agency quoted the company. Foxconn's revenue for June jumped 10.09% year-on-year to T$540.237 billion, a record high for the month. Foxconn stated it expects growth this quarter compared to the previous three months and the same period last year, but also warned about possible risks to growth. "The impact of evolving global political and economic conditions and exchange rate changes will need continued close monitoring," Reuters quoted Foxconn. Notably, US President Donald Trump announced he had signed letters to 12 countries, detailing the tariffs they would face on exports to the US. These "take it or leave it" offers are scheduled to be sent out on Monday. Foxconn operates the world's largest iPhone manufacturing plant in Zhengzhou, China. The tech giant has not released numerical forecasts. It will report full second-quarter earnings on August 14. Foxconn's shares surged 76% last year, significantly outpacing the Taiwan market's 28.5% increase. However, they have decreased by 12.5% so far this year, due to broader pressures on tech stocks amid Trump's trade policies, the report said.

Donald Trump on his awkward nickname for Melania at Iowa event: ‘It reminds me I'm president'

President Donald Trump and his wife Melania have never exactly seemed like a picture-perfect couple. But a closer look at how they live as husband and wife shows just how distant their relationship appears to be. During a casual speech in Iowa on Thursday, Donald Trump shared an awkward detail — the nickname he uses for Melania Trump.(AP) Michael Wolff's book 'Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House' reveals that the Trumps were the first couple since John and Jackie Kennedy to sleep in separate bedrooms at the White House, according to an Irish Star report. Trump's nickname for Melania During a speech in Iowa on Thursday, Trump shared an awkward detail — the nickname he uses for Melania. It was at the 'Salute to America' event in Des Moines where Trump first made a mistake while talking about soccer; made several strange claims; and even talked about hosting a UFC match at the White House. He eventually got around to mentioning military recruitment but quickly went off-topic again. 'I remember saying to our great First Lady...' he said before suddenly adding, 'I call her 'First Lady,' isn't it terrible?' He went on to say, 'I'm saying 'Good night, First Lady, my darling,' because it reminds me that I'm president, that's why.' 'Wanted own bedroom' According to Wolff, Trump asked for a lock on his bedroom door so neither Melania nor the Secret Service could come in and he could eat cheeseburgers in peace and watch three TVs at once. There have long been reports that Melania 'can't stand' Trump and asked for her own bedroom in the White House. After refusing former First Lady Jill Biden's offer of tea, questions swirled about where Melania would live if Trump returned to the White House — Florida, New York, or Washington D.C.? One of her reported conditions for return to Washington was having her own space. Though she previously said she wasn't nervous about being First Lady again, sources told Radar Online that Melania's choice to live separately from Trump — along with their son Barron — is not new. 'It was no secret that Donald stayed in the White House master suite and Melania occupied a two-room suite on the third floor during their first-go round there,' a source told Radar Online. 'They'll now basically go back to something along those very same lines — if not in the very same rooms.' A Trump spokesperson denied claims about their sleeping arrangements, according to the publication. Also Read: Musk hints at 3rd party after 'Big Beautiful Bill' passes. Here's what Tesla CEO posted Shared routine before bed Even though the couple reportedly don't share a bedroom, sources say they still have a nightly routine together: dinner and a talk. 'They did not share a bedroom, but they ate dinner together every night,' insiders have been quoted as saying.
