Freddie Mercury's sister 'spent £3m buying his belongings'

Perth Now23-04-2025
Freddie Mercury's sister reportedly spent £3 million buying up his belongings after they were auctioned off by his ex Mary Austin.
The Queen star - who died in 1991 aged 45 - left much of his estate including his London home and its contents to his former lover and longtime friend Mary, who sold off his possessions at auction back in 2023 and now The Sun newspaper reports Freddie's sibling Kashmira Bulsara, 73, spent millions buying up lots to keep them in the family.
A source told the publication: "Kashmira was angry and upset to see so many of her beloved brother's possessions become available for anyone to buy.
"So she went for a private viewing, anonymously .... to see which bits she wanted to try to get ...
"Kashmira watched [the auction] online and told her PA how much to bid for each item. They had set aside a huge budget so were actually very happy with the final figure laid out, despite paying well over the estimated price for each one.
"Of course, Kashmira appreciates how adored Freddie was across the world, but she was saddened to think of some of his sentimental belongings not being with his loved ones."
The newspaper reports items bought by Kashmira included a waistcoat emblazoned with portraits of Freddie's six cats which he wore in the music video for Queen's track 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives'. It sold for £139,700.
Kashmira is also said to have snapped up a Wurlitzer Model 850 jukebox (£406,400), draft lyrics for Queen song 'Killer Queen' (£279,400), a Daum Persimmons vase which had been converted into a lamp (£22,860) and a Nike sweatshirt (£40,640).
The auction is believed to have made around £40 million and Mary donated some of the proceeds to charity, with funds going to the Mercury Phoenix Trust, which was set up in the late singer's honour, and the Elton John Aids Foundation.
Mary said at the time of the sale: "The time has come for me to take the difficult decision to close this very special chapter in my life.
"I decided that it wouldn't be appropriate for me to keep things back. If I was going to sell, I had to be brave and sell the lot."

Secret weapon to keep Oasis brothers on track revealed

A new book details the rise, fall and resurrection of the British rock band. Promoters have enlisted a secret weapon to keep Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher from knuckling on during their reunion tour. The ultra-fiery, musically gifted pair have embarked on the much-anticipated world tour, but speculation has been rife since dates were confirmed about how long it would be before the two fell out. As insurance against any issues that may derail the string of gigs the Gallaghers' 81-year-old mum, Peggy, has stepped into keep a watchful eye over her sons and douse any summering tensions that may arise. The Daily Mail reports that Peggy is reportedly keeping Liam,, 52, and Noel, 58, in check as part of a 'military style operation' when they are not on stage. After a violent end to their last tour culminated in a back stage fight in Paris in 2009, Noel quit the band, before the pair engaged in a public war of words for over a decade. Insiders have stated that Liam is enjoying having his mum on tour and she helps 'keep his head down' to stay in the 'best mindset'. One of the biggest moments on the tour is just around the corner as Oasis will take to the stage at Wembley next week, with Peggy's eldest son Paul, 59, performing a DJ set as a warm-up for the main event.. Peggy will be in the wings, and according to The Sun 'Liam is incredibly close to Peggy and has loved spending time with her during the tour. [She] has always stayed out of their disagreements and just wants the best for her sons.' There is still a lingering animosity between the band's frontmen, which has brought significant challenges for tour organisers. Separate dressing rooms are required, and the brothers use separate transport to and from events to avoid another flare-up and a potential 'PR and financial nightmare'. A source told The Mirror: 'They will not be in each other's pockets and effectively be separate entities that come together for necessary promotional work and the gigs. Other than that, they will be apart for much of this reunion. 'Rehearsals will be the first time that they will be together for a significant amount of time working again. The atmosphere is sure to be electric, but also a little edgy.' In 2019, Peggy pleaded with her youngest son, Liam, to bury the hatchet with his brother the following year, and has continually urged her sons to put aside their differences. Earlier this month Liam and Noel's estranged father made the headlines when he was captured on video saying his sons 'don't know f***ing music'. Thomas Augustin Gallagher, who they blame for an abusive upbringing and alleged violence toward their mother, has no contact with his sons.

Love Actually star Martine McCutcheon's sad update after split from husband

Martine McCutcheon has filed for bankruptcy, just eleven months after splitting from her husband. Official documents show the actor has filed a petition for insolvency due to a debt she owes to a finance company – just two months after selling her family home at a slashed price, reports The Sun. Meanwhile, the bankruptcy order was made in her married name – Martine McManus – although she was formally single by then. The couple announced their split last year after 18 years together. Martine wrote on her Instagram Story at the time: 'After much thought and consideration, Jack has decided it's best for us to separate after 18 years together and I accept his decision. 'We are both so very blessed and grateful for our beautiful, 9 year old son Rafferty, whose happiness and welfare, has always been, and will continue to be, our number one priority. 'We both of course, still cherish and look forward to being parents together to our wonderful boy for the rest of our lives … 'While this decision has evolved over a period of time, we are still finding our new way forward as a family and kindly ask for some privacy at this time … 'Especially for our little boy. 'Our love for Rafferty, is something that will never, waver, or change and we obviously want to protect him and help him feel as safe and secure as possible. 'Many thanks in advance for your respect and support, at this difficult time … 'And I continue to send Jack, all the love, luck and happiness for the next chapter of his. 'Rafferty and I (as always,) are rooting for you! 'Thank you all, for the love and support, now and always … Although once worth $4.12 million, Martine and Jack faced serious financial troubles within a year of their wedding day. To pay off mounting debts, she was forced to flog the $51,500 engagement ring Jack gave her when he proposed. She said: 'I just thought my health, money, career have all been taken from me, and now even my engagement ring — the one thing that represents what is solid in my life — has gone.' In 2003, Martine made the jump from British soap EastEnders to film with a major role in classic rom-com Love Actually. She portrayed Natalie, a junior Downing Street staff member and love interest to the Prime Minister (Hugh Grant). Earlier this year, Martine revealed she will be making a huge TV return – eight months on from her marriage split. She shared a short Instagram clip saying: 'Hello everybody, I hope you are good, I've just pulled over, I did the school run this morning a bit windswept got the window down just having a hot flush. 'I was looking at my Instagram and I realised that I actually haven't talked to you guys on here, just having a chit chat for such a long time because I've had so much going on and yeah it's been so much change. 'I've still been managing to do my thing and get back to it, I did a show the other night that I am probably its number one fan. 'I'll share more with you about that nearer the time but loved it, loved it. I've been meditating for the universe and I've decided that I really want to do guided meditations and I want to help people.'

Charli xcx marries George Daniel at intimate London wedding

Charli xcx and George Daniel have tied the knot. A viral video of the couple on their wedding day (19.07.25) has circulated on the internet, with the Apple singer wowing in a low-cut white mini-dress. The bride opted to wear her hair down with a lengthy veil, and even donned her trademark Brat sunglasses to the intimate ceremony at Hackney Town Hall in London. According to The Mirror, there were only 20 friends and family in attendance, including 1975 drummer George's bandmates Ross MacDonald and Adam Hann. Frontman Matty Healy wasn't said to be there. As for the 35-year-old sticksman's attire, the groom opted for a casual black suit with an off-grey shirt underneath, plus a white flower in his jacket to match his wife's bouquet. There had been reports that the pair were planning a lavish Sicily wedding later this year. An insider told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "Charli and George fell in love with Sicily and knew they wanted to get married there. "It's incredibly secluded and romantic. There will be no expense spared. It's costing tens of thousands of pounds and visually it will be mesmerising. "Charli and George said they wanted a massive party and there are no restrictions on when the bar has to close, so it can go on all night." The source added: "They have both had such a busy summer with massive shows, but from mid-August they're able to slow down and focus on their big day. "It's going to be pretty star-studded too, with plenty of their celeb mates making the journey over to Sicily to watch them say 'I do'. Charli and George are so excited to become man and wife." However, Charli revealed earlier this year that she was feeling relaxed about her wedding plans and that she and George "just want to have a party". The 32-year-old singer said: "We're both very chill and we kind of just want to have a party. "Neither of us are particularly formal about marriage or care about the formalities of the ceremony or whatever. "We just want to be together forever and have a party with our friends." Charli and George got engaged in November 2023 after a year of dating.
