Over 25 Saudi Health Groups Spotlight Biotech Innovation at BIO Boston
Saudi Arabia is participating in the 2025 BIO International Convention in Boston with a national pavilion led by the Ministry of Health. The Kingdom's delegation includes more than 25 organisations from across the government, private sector, and research community, marking one of its largest representations at the global biotech summit to date.
The delegation is taking part in exhibitions and high-level meetings focused on advancing biotechnology research, development, and investment. The event, widely recognised as the world's largest gathering of stakeholders in life sciences and medical innovation, runs through June 19th.
Saudi Arabia's presence aligns with its recently launched National Biotechnology Strategy, a key pillar of the country's broader push to expand its role in science, medicine, and high-tech industries. The strategy forms part of Saudi Vision 2030, which outlines major health sector transformation programmes and aims to position the Kingdom as a global hub for innovation.
The BIO Convention, hosted this year in Boston—a major centre for life sciences—offers a strategic platform for the Kingdom to showcase its advancements and attract international collaboration in emerging biotech fields.

Professor Spagat, whose work has covered conflict mortality in Syria, Iraq, and Kosovo, told Haaretz, 'Gaza now ranks among the most lethal conflicts per capita in the modern era—particularly in the ratio of civilian to combatant casualties.' Women and Children: Over Half of the Dead According to the research, 56% of the deceased were women or children under the age of 18—a proportion that dramatically surpasses civilian casualty rates seen in other recent wars, including in Kosovo (20%), Iraq (17%), and Syria (20%). The findings challenge Israeli government claims that over 20,000 Hamas operatives have been killed, a figure critics say is unsupported by verifiable evidence or detailed casualty records. The report highlights how indirect factors—including hunger, disease, and the shelling of aid distribution centers—have significantly contributed to the death toll. Palestinian witnesses and aid workers allege that Israeli forces fired on crowds near food distribution sites, incidents that have killed over 500 people and injured hundreds more in recent weeks, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. Aid Under Fire, Trust Under Strain The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a newly formed relief body supported by a U.S. private contractor, began distributing food aid at four locations across southern Gaza in May. Witnesses allege multiple shootings occurred along roads to these distribution sites, causing panic among starving residents. During BIO International Convention in Boston USA, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in Abu Dhabi, and Abbott, the global healthcare leader, entered a landmark partnership to localise manufacturing of pharmaceuticals in Abu Dhabi and advance digital health solutions. Leveraging Abu Dhabi's advanced life sciences infrastructure, this milestone reflects the emirate's proactive preparedness to reduce dependency on imports, strengthen supply chain resilience, and foster a sustainable, self-sufficient healthcare ecosystem. H.E. Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, said: 'Following the recent launch of the Health, Endurance, Longevity and Medicine (HELM) Cluster in Abu Dhabi, the emirate proved to be equipped with a holistic, integrated infrastructure that fosters local manufacturing and R&D, positioning it as a regional healthcare gateway and leader in life sciences. Iran accuses Israel of third hospital attack in Tehran
Iran's Ministry of Health has announced that the Israeli 'occupation' targeted a hospital in the capital, Tehran, marking the third such incident, according to international media reports. The Ministry stated that the 'Zionist entity' has struck six ambulances and a health services center since its 'aggression' against the country began. Last Friday, the Israeli 'occupation' launched attacks against various areas in Iran. These strikes were not limited to military zones; rather, the majority targeted residential areas, resulting in approximately 600 fatalities, mostly civilians, to date, according to international media. Separately, Iranian media reported that an Israeli drone targeted a residential building in central Tehran.
