Strongwoman wins title after arm-wrestle fundraising
Eve Robson, from Hurworth-on-Tees, near Darlington, became the first British woman to claim the female title at the Amateur World Highland Games Championships, which was held at the top of a mountain in Norway.
The 22-year-old had been aiming for the world title since taking up the sport three years ago and achieved early success by becoming Scottish Champion in 2023.
She raised travel costs by challenging men to arm-wrestling contests for £10-a-go in the Emerson Arms pub in her village, where she worked behind the bar.
"I was hoping to get in the top three but to win the world title is unbelievable – I keep having to pinch myself," said Ms Robson.
Events in the games include the caber toss, heavy shot put, light shot put, heavy hammer, light hammer, weight over the bar, heavy weight for distance, and light weight for distance.
After two days of intense competition in the Norwegian resort of Fefor, Ms Robson had to finish in the top six in the final event – the light weight for distance – which involved throwing a metal ball attached to a chain.
On her first attempt she threw the weight over the side of the mountain, and it had to be recovered.
However, she sealed victory with her second throw, defeating rivals from the USA, Germany, Netherlands, and France.
"I just started screaming when I won because I've worked so hard to get to the top of the sport," she said.
"I was third in the World Championships in the USA last time, but I've steadily improved and got stronger, so all the training has been worthwhile.
"Hopefully, what I've done will encourage more women to try the sport because it's a great discipline."
Ms Robson is a member of the Teesside Throwers squad, and is coached in Middlesbrough by Highland Games veteran David Dowson.
Her next competition is the Scottish Championships in Airth on 26 July.

Lottie Woad loses more ground in Women's Open as Miyu Yamashita sets pace
Lottie Woad lost further ground at the AIG Women's Open after a triple bogey in her second-round score of 70 left her nine shots behind leader Miyu Yamashita on two under. Woad, tournament favourite in just her second event as a professional after winning the Scottish Open last week, was on the charge after her sixth birdie of the day at the 14th before suffering a big setback at the par-four 16th. Japan's Yamashita followed her first-round 68 with a bogey-free 65 to open up a three-shot lead over compatriot and joint overnight leader Rio Takeda, who carded a 69 on another blustery day at Royal Porthcawl. Switzerland's Chiara Tamburlini, Thailand's Pajaree Anannarukarn and American Lindy Duncan are all tied for third, four shots further back on four under. Another big group, including 2021 Women's Open winner Madelene Sagstrom and Germany's Laura Fuenfstueck – still out on the course having played 12 holes – are tied on three under. Woad, Wales' Darcey Harry and American world number one Nelly Korda are among another group of eight, are tied in 11th on two under. Surrey's Woad, who also won the Irish Open and finished tied for third at The Evian Championship in her final weeks as an amateur, began the day five shots behind the leaders after a first-round level-par 72. The 21-year-old parred the first five holes on Friday before birdies at the sixth and eighth took her to the turn on two under. Four more birdies and a bogey in the next five holes lifted her up to fifth on the leaderboard on five under, but after another par at the 15th, a penalty drop at the 16th, where she two-putted after chipping on to the green, saw her drop three shots. Woad told Sky Sports: 'It's probably playing the toughest hole of the day. I hit a good drive but pushed the three-wood a bit and it went in the one thick bit over there. 'I got a bit unlucky with that but then took my medicine afterwards and ended up making a seven. 'I'm happy with how I recovered after it. I was a bit angry after that but I just had to move on quickly.' Woad parred the final two holes – she missed a birdie putt on the 18th – to finish the second round alongside 22-year-old Harry as the highest-placed home nations players. Harry followed up her opening-round 70 with a 72, which could have been better but for double bogeys at the 10th and 15th. Mimi Rhodes, the leading Brit heading into the day after an opening-round 69, carded a 74 to sit in a big group tied in 19th place on one under, while Charley Hull is a shot further back, tied in 29th place, after she birdied the last for a 71. New Zealand's defending champion Lydia Ko slipped out of contention after posting a second successive 73 to sit two over, while American Lillia Vu, the 2023 Open champion, missed the cut after rounds of 74 and 77 left her seven over.

Roma agree Solbakken sale to Nordsjaelland
Roma have reportedly agreed the sale of Ola Solbakken to Nordsjaelland, two and a half years since his move from Bodo/Glimt. According to Il Tempo and the player has already flown out to Norway to complete and medical and the two clubs are exchanging documents this evening. This had been an ill-fated transfer to the Stadio Olimpico as a free agent from Bodo/Glimt in January 2023. Under contract with Roma until June 2027, this will nonetheless represent a profit for them, as he had arrived for free. It is going to be a permanent transfer and therefore get him off the Roma books. This is a return home for the Norway international, who has 11 senior caps for his country, able to play on the right, left or in a more central attacking role.

Nottingham Forest sign Chelsea forward Claypole
Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Chelsea forward Aimee Claypole on a permanent deal. The Tricky Trees announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon. The 19-year-old attacker is a product of the Chelsea academy system. She went on to make her senior debut for the club before going out on loan to gain first team experience. Claypole spent time with former second tier club Lewes and Norwegian side Linköping FC before joining Durham on loan for the second half of last season. On the international stage, Claypole has represented England at various youth levels. After adding Claypole to her squad, Nottingham Forest head coach Carly Davies said 'We are so pleased Aimee has joined us. Securing her signing is another statement of intent for the impact we're looking to have in the WSL2. 'Aimee is an exciting player, someone who has an eye for goal and we are confident she will add something different to the team. She has fantastic experience for a player of her age, and we're looking forward to welcoming her to our group and seeing the impact she has on the team.'
