India Captain Gill Accuses England Of Violating 'Spirit Of The Game' Ahead Of 4th Cricket Test

Al Arabiya2 days ago
Tensions are rising ahead of the fourth test between England and India at Old Trafford. India captain Shubman Gill said Tuesday that England had acted against the spirit of the game by delaying play in last week's heated third test at Lords.
Gill was not happy about England batsmen Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett being late to the crease on the third day of the test which the host won by 22 runs to take a 2-1 series lead. A flashpoint came when England's openers had to bat out the final seven minutes but India was only able to get through one over. 'A lot of people have been talking about it so let me just clear the air once and for all,' Gill said. 'The English batsmen on that day had seven minutes of play left they were 90 seconds late to come to the crease. Not 10 not 20 – 90 seconds late.' Gill went on to say England's actions were not something that comes in the spirit of the game. There were a number of clashes between players over the next two days of the test. England can secure a series victory with a win in the fourth test which starts Wednesday.
England captain Ben Stokes said his team would not look to antagonize India but would not back down either. 'It's not something we're going to go out and purposefully look to start (an argument) because that will take our focus off what we need to do out in the middle,' he said. 'But by no means we are not going to take a backward step and let any opposition try and be confrontational toward us and not try to give a bit back. That goes for most teams so it is not like we are the only team who does that.'

Farhan's 50 lifts Pakistan to 178-7 in third Bangladesh T20I

DHAKA: Opener Sahibzada Farhan hit a solid half century to guide Pakistan to an improved total of 178-7 in the third and final Twenty20 international against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Thursday. Farhan's 41-ball 63 studded with five sixes and six boundaries as well as Hasan Nawaz's 17-ball 33 with three sixes and a boundary helped Pakistan post a challenging total after they were sent into bat. Having already won their first-ever T20I series against Pakistan with victories in the first two matches, Bangladesh rested five of their main players including spearhead Mustafizur Rahman. Pakistan had scored 110 and 125 in the first two matches — also in Dhaka. Farhan, who replaced Fakhar Zaman as one of two changes for Pakistan, put on 82 for the opening stand with Saim Ayub who scored a 15-ball 21 with a six and two boundaries. Farhan, 29, fell in the 12th over to spinner Nasum Ahmed who finished with 2-22 in his four overs. Pacer Taskin Ahmed took 3-38. Mohammad Nawaz, who scored 16-ball 27 with two sixes and as many fours, and skipper Salman Agha made 12 to help Pakistan add 46 runs in the last five overs.

Pakistan's Naqvi says consulting India on Asia Cup 2026 schedule

ISLAMABAD: Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi announced on Thursday that the body was holding consultations with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following which the schedule for the upcoming Asia Cup 2026 will be announced 'very soon.' The fate of this year's Asia Cup, which is to be hosted by India most likely in September, was thrown into uncertainty following the days-long military skirmish between India and Pakistan in May. Bilateral cricket has been suspended since 2013 between the traditional rivals, who play each other only in multi-team events as per an International Cricket Council arrangement. Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the country's interior minister, spoke to reporters after presiding over the ACC's annual general meeting in Dhaka. The ACC chief said all 25 members of the Asian body attended the meeting, some through video link, to discuss cricket in Asia. 'We are in consultations with the BCCI [about Asia Cup schedule] and hopefully we will resolve the [issues] very soon,' Naqvi said in response to a question. When a reporter asked Naqvi whether the tournament will be held in the UAE, he said the ACC 'will announce it soon.' Naqvi said it was 'a normal thing' for most ACC members to attend the meeting virtually, saying it isn't possible for the various heads of cricket boards to gather in one place due to their varying schedules. In his opening statement, the ACC chief said the annual general meeting 'went very well.' 'We have all decided to work for cricket, none of us was [discussing] politics inside our organization,' Naqvi said. Cricket matches between India and Pakistan draw in millions of television viewers worldwide and thousands to cricket stadiums around the world. India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy this year and played all their matches, including the March 9 final, in Dubai. India will host the women's 50-overs World Cup this year but Pakistan will play all their matches in Sri Lanka as per the ICC's arrangement. India's head coach Gautam Gambhir is against playing Pakistan even in neutral venues but will follow whatever the BCCI decided, he said in May.
