CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – MassDOT is holding a meeting on Thursday on a proposal to replace a bridge over Chicopee Street.
Chicopee police called for possible rabid raccoon, found with broken leg
The bridge, which carries I-391 over route 116, has been around since 1979, according to Mass.gov. They're proposing a full replacement of the bridge, the new one would have three lanes in each direction. It will also have a 75-year design life span and incorporate modern bridge design elements to reduce maintenance impacts to the Willimansett neighborhood and the public.
During the construction, MassDOT will attempt to maintain traffic on both Chicopee Street and I-391. Limited detours and closures will be required at certain times to ensure public safety during certain operations.
The public meeting is being held at Legacy Church on Chicopee Street. It begins Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m.

'They've got a nice group of positive people,' said Rico Daniele, member of the Sons & Daughters of Italy. 'We have 20 members now, we're trying to bring it back like the old days and bring people together.' The club also announced that in a month, the one and only Italian Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel will return to the city of Springfield. This will mark the first time in 20 years that the feast will take place, bringing back the 40-foot grease pole competition and traditional food that locals won't want to miss. 'People might remember way back in the day when people went up the pole to get the prosciutto and salami to get that,' said Salvato Circosta, President of Casa Italiana.
