Reds phenom Chase Burns can't get out of 1st inning in 2nd start after memorable MLB debut

BOSTON (AP) — Cincinnati Reds phenom right-hander Chase Burns went from a memorable major league debut to a miserable second one against the Boston Red Sox on Monday night.
After becoming the first starting pitcher in the expansion era to strike out the first five big league hitters he faced Tuesday against the New York Yankees, the 22-year-old Burns was tagged for seven runs, five earned, and got only one out.
Burns, selected second overall by the Reds in July's amateur draft, walked the leadoff batter, Jarren Duran, on a 99.9 mph fastball.
His defense let him down when the next batter Roman Anthony hit a grounder that second baseman Matt McLain threw into short left field, attempting to get a force.
Abraham Toro lined a single to left for the first run and Carlos Narvaez followed by hitting the next pitch for an RBI double off the Green Monster. After a ground out, Trevor Story belted a 1-1 slider into the center-field bleachers, making it 5-0.
David Hamilton added an RBI single and manager Terry Francona lifted Burns after his second walk.
Anthony added an RBI single against Brent Suter, completing Burns' pitching line.

We'll see, but the most important thing is to win the Euro.' Bonmatí won the last two world player of the year awards, and she is now the one enduring an ordeal as after falling ill with viral meningitis just a few days before Spain traveled to Switzerland for the tournament. Bonmatí was released from the hospital on Sunday to rejoin the national squad, but it still wasn't clear how much she would participate. Spain will open its tournament Thursday against Portugal. It will also face Belgium and Italy in Group B. The nation's best result in the European tournament was a semifinals appearance in 1997. Spain established itself as one of the powerhouses in women's soccer by winning the World Cup in 2023 and the inaugural Women's Nations League in 2024. (AP) — Marcos Leonardo scored his second goal on a rebound in the 112th minute, and Al Hilal stunned Manchester City 4-3 on Monday night, eliminating the Premier League power from the Club World Cup in the round of 16. In a back-and-forth thriller at Camping World Stadium, the Saudi Arabian club took the lead three times, including twice in extra time.
