SHAH ALAM - Selangor deputy police chief Mohd Zaini Abu Hassan has been appointed as the acting state police chief, effective tomorrow.
He succeeds Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, who will assume his new role as director of the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) on July 21.
The handover-of-duties ceremony took place at the Dewan D'Cerana, Selangor contingent police headquarters (IPK), and was witnessed by police Management Department director, Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid.
In his speech, Hussein expressed gratitude to the police leadership for their trust and support during his two years and five months at the helm, highlighting key achievements, such as a 12 per cent reduction in the crime index last year and the successful foiling of major drug smuggling attempts, involving seizures worth hundreds of millions of ringgit.
He said that, between 2023 and 2024, Selangor police seized over 10 tonnes of drugs, worth RM300 million, a move which prevented the narcotics from reaching more than 21 million potential users.
"The Selangor contingent recorded 22,000 arrests in 2023, a figure which rose to 40,000 in 2024. Meanwhile, the state Commercial Crime Investigation Department opened investigation papers on 7,115 cases in 2023, involving losses of RM510 million, compared with 7,731 cases in 2024, with losses amounting to RM680 million,' he said.
Hussein added that traffic enforcement issued 1.06 million summonses in 2023, generating RM135.7 million in collections, while in 2024, 1.13 million summonses were issued, with collections totalling RM128 million.
He said that these achievements reflect the unwavering dedication and teamwork of every officer, personnel, and civil servant, who formed the backbone of the force's success. - BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 (Bernama) -- The Wildlife Crime Bureau / Special Intelligence Investigation (WCB/PSK) Division of the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (JKDNKA) seized various illegal items worth RM3.9 million in two integrated operations in Lahad Datu and Tawau, Sabah, on Thursday and Friday. JKDNKA director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said that in the first operation in Lahad Datu at 7 pm, carried out with enforcement officers from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), they raided a store at a palm oil plantation and arrested four men aged between 20 and 31. "We seized a lorry head with a tanker containing 30,000 litres of crude palm oil, a van, three motorised oil pumps with hoses and tanks, as well as drums filled with crude palm oil. "The total amount of crude palm oil seized is estimated to weigh 30,148 tonnes, with a market value of RM152,090, and the overall value of the seizure in this operation is estimated at RM645,890,' he said in a statement today. Azmi said the case is being investigated under Regulation 5(1)(b) of the MPOB (Licensing) Regulations 2005, adding that police also issued five summonses (POL 257) for vehicle-related offences such as expired road tax, no insurance coverage and driving without a licence. Meanwhile, in the second operation in Tawau at 2.30 pm on Friday, police seized 622 fighting cocks and arrested three men, including two foreign men from Indonesia and the Philippines, all aged around their 50s. 'At the first location in Kampung Apas Parit, two Indonesian men and two Filipino men were arrested, and police seized 470 fighting cocks believed to be from the Philippines, 40 rooster spur knives, 180 units of vitamins and 500 chicken cages. 'At the second location in Kampung Membalua Off Jalan Apas, a 57-year-old man was detained along with 152 fighting cocks, with the total estimated value of the seizures at both locations being RM3,287,708,' he said. He added that all those arrested are being investigated under Section 15(1) of the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015, Sections 55B, 39B & 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 6 of the Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 (Bernama) – Police seized contraband cigarettes and liquor worth over RM400,000, along with a Ball Python snake, during a raid on a grocery shop in Kulim, Kedah last Thursday. Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (JKDNKA) director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said the 11 am operation, carried out by the Wildlife Crime Bureau / Special Intelligence Investigation (WCB/PSK), led to the arrest of a 35-year-old local man believed to be the shop owner. "The items seized included 118,520 sticks of untaxed cigarettes, 333 bottles and cans of alcoholic beverages, one Ball Python snake, 62 cylinders of subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and RM35,000 in cash. The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM416,668," he said in a statement today.

Various Types Of Cosmetic Products Without MOH Approval Kept For Online Sale Seized
KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 (Bernama) -- Various types of cosmetic products and food supplements without approval from the Ministry of Health, stored for online sale on social media platforms, were seized in raids on two premises in Segambut on Wednesday (July 16). Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said that in the raid on the first premises, they arrested a man and two foreign women, aged between 28 and 30, and seized 1,972 boxes and 2,551 bottles of various types of cosmetic products and food supplements that did not have MOH approval. "The 40-year-old man, who is also the premises owner, then led police personnel to another residence, where we found 180 boxes and 895 bottles of various types of cosmetic products and food supplements without MOH approval, with the total value of the seizure estimated at RM185,515,' he said in a statement today.
