Jake Paul blasted for showing 'disrespect' after Oleksandr Usyk fight
Jake Paul has faced a lot of backlash after he faced with Oleksandr Usyk immediately after the Ukrainian's destructive win over Daniel Dubois.
Usyk and Dubois went head-to-head for a second time on Saturday night in front of over 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium. After winning the initial encounter two years ago, the Ukrainian settled the score once and for all after securing a vicious fifth round knockout.
With the pair clashing for the undisputed heavyweight title at a huge venue, it was inevitable that many big names were going to be ringside. Paul was sitting front row for the event and was constantly booed by fans every time he appeared on the big screen. The 'Problem Child' quickly grabbed the headlines after he once again called for a fight with Anthony Joshua.
He told DAZN: "Yeah 100 per cent it's going to happen. We're going to do the unthinkable and create one of the biggest fights in the history of boxing. It's not even about it being realistic or not, it's gonna happen so fasten your seatbelts. And when I knock him out I'll go down in the history books forever." His trip to the UK would not be complete without facing off with Usyk - who he has called out multiple times over the last few months.
The pair faced off in the ring immediately after the Ukrainian's win over Dubois. Neither man blinked in what was a tense and chilling stare down. Eventually, the pair shook hands and went their separate ways. In a post uploaded to X - formerly known as Twitter - Paul posted the video, captioning it: "Congrats to one of the greatest heavyweights of all time @usykaa on a huge win. I respect you a lot. Now we do an MMA match for the world @MostVpromotions."
As expected, the footage quickly went viral online - with Usyk himself was quick to comment on the face off with the YouTuber-turned-boxer. "Jake Paul came to the ring for a face-off. I'm ready to fight with Jake Paul in MMA rules. I'm ready but I need to rest," he said.
While it was maybe all fun and games, boxing fans were quick to flood the comments section, expressing their anger towards Paul. "Letting him in the same ring as Usyk is an insult," one fan wrote. A second commented: "It should never be sanctioned, Usyk will murder the YouTuber!" A third replied: "Please don't disrespect us and Usyk like this," while another posted: "This is absolutely ridiculous. Get Jake Paul out of there." A fifth replied: "Embarrassing shouldn't even be allowed in the same ring as Usyk."
Paul - who signed with the PFL two years ago - is yet to make his MMA debut. Back in May, the American stunned the boxing world after he called out Usyk for a fight in the octagon. "Yeah, I want to be like Holly (Holm) here and test my skills in the cage," The Problem Child said, referencing the American boxer and MMA star. "That's something I'm super, super interested in, and I think it would be a very, very big spectacle. Nate Diaz is still ducking, but we would need to find the right opponent. [Oleksandr] Usyk, maybe."
Paul's business partner Nakisa Bidarian then weighed in on the comments and raised expectations that a stunning bout between the two stars could take place. "Usyk has called out Jake multiple times in MMA," he added. "They've been in touch with us behind the scenes saying they want to do that fight in 2026. So it's something that we definitely want to pursue."
When is Jake Paul's next fight?
After defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr last month, Paul is set to fight once more before the year is out. The American can now fight for a world title after he was placed in the WBC's cruiserweight rankings following his win over the Mexican. The 28-year-old's manager revealed his business partner is keen on fighting for a world title 'as soon as possible'.
However, he admits it is likely it won't happen next, given the current standings at 200lbs. "Absolutely [he will fight again this year]. November or December," Bidarian told Ariel Helwani when asked about Paul's next steps. "I'm seeing him tonight for dinner, and we will have a conversation [about his next opponent]. The only possibility right now is that Jake wants to fight for a belt as soon as possible.
"I have to talk to him, I think it's tough this year [to box for a world title]. Badou Jack is who he wants to fight more than anyone, and he has a mandatory rematch with the guy he just beat [Noel Mikaelian] for the WBC. I don't know if this year is possible [for the title fight], but we'll see."

‘I don't think I'm special': Scheffler plays down latest major win after Open cruise
Scottie Scheffler has insisted that he does not think he is anything special despite winning his fourth major in three years after a dominant Open victory at Portrush. The 29-year-old American won by four shots from Harris English to complete the third leg of a career grand slam, and afterwards he was compared to Tiger Woods by the Open winner last year, Xander Schauffele, and the 2019 champion, Shane Lowry. Scheffler also doubled down when he was reminded he said before the Open that winning the Claret Jug would be awesome for only two minutes, and that his family and faith were more important. 'I don't think that I'm anything special just because some weeks I'm better at shooting a lower score than other guys are,' Scheffler said. 'Am I grateful for it? Do I enjoy it? Oh my gosh yes, this is a cool feeling. I can't wait to get home and celebrate this championship with the people that have helped me along the way. But at the end of the day, it doesn't fulfil the deepest desires of my heart. I don't know why I'm so lucky that I get to live out my dreams, but it's something I'm very grateful for. 'If somebody was going to listen to the comments I had this week, I would encourage them to listen to all of it, and I hope I did a good job communicating that this is amazing to win the Open Championship. But at the end of the day, having success in life, whether it be in golf, work, whatever it is, that's not what fulfills the deepest desires of your heart.' Pressed by reporters, Scheffler said: 'Just because you win a golf tournament or accomplish something, it doesn't make you happy. It doesn't – maybe for a few moments, maybe for a few days, but at the end of the day, there's more to life than playing golf. I'm pretty excited to go home and celebrate this one.' Scheffler also played down comparisons with Tiger Woods. 'I still think they're a bit silly. Tiger won, what, 15 majors? This is my fourth. I just got one-fourth of the way there. I think Tiger stands alone in the game of golf. He was inspirational for me growing up. He was a very, very talented guy, and he was a special person to be able to be as good as he was at the game of golf.' Scheffler, who lifted the Claret Jug with one arm while holding his 14‑month‑old son Bennett, also revealed that his love of golf was already being passed down to his offspring. 'It's very cool to have him here,' Scheffler said. 'He obviously has no clue what's going on. Sign up to The Recap The best of our sports journalism from the past seven days and a heads-up on the weekend's action after newsletter promotion 'Bennett started swinging a club back and forth. I put a golf ball down, and he hit it. To be able to occupy a one-year-old with anything is probably a pretty good thing for them to be able to focus on. 'It's pretty special to be able to celebrate here with my family. I hope Bennett's able to get into golf one day. The game of golf has taught me a tremendous amount. I feel like every day you go out and play golf you're looking in the mirror, and I've met some of my best friends through the game of golf. 'It's a very special game. You call penalties on yourself, and it's just – you learn a lot of good life lessons by playing golf. I hope he can play one day, and I hope he enjoys it as much as I do.'

Trump tells Washington NFL team to revert to ‘Redskins' name
President Trump has said Washington's American football team should revert to its original name of the 'Washington Redskins'. The US president said sports teams that had changed names to avoid offending Native Americans in recent years should readopt their former branding. He said there was 'a big clamouring for this'. 'The Washington 'Whatever's' should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team,' he wrote on Truth Social. Later, Trump threatened to block the Commanders' application to build a new stadium in Washington and said his campaign was called Miga, or Make Indians Great Again. 'I may put a restriction on them that if they don't change the name back to the original 'Washington Redskins,' and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, 'Washington Commanders,' I won't make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington,' he wrote in a second post on Truth Social. 'The Team would be much more valuable, and the Deal would be more exciting for everyone. Cleveland should do the same with the Cleveland Indians. The Owner of the Cleveland Baseball Team, Matt Dolan, who is very political, has lost three Elections in a row because of that ridiculous name change. What he doesn't understand is that if he changed the name back to the Cleveland Indians, he might actually win an Election. Indians are being treated very unfairly. MAKE INDIANS GREAT AGAIN (MIGA)!' The Washington Commanders changed their name during the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd in 2020 when sports teams came under pressure from sponsors to ditch culturally insensitive names and logos. For two years, the NFL team, which last won a Super Bowl in 1992, went without a name before they were rebranded the 'Commanders' in 2022. The team has replaced its logo, which previously showed the head of a native American wearing feathers, with a large 'W'. While some teams have changed their names because of protests from fans, including the Cleveland Indians — a baseball team that became the Cleveland Guardians — others have refused to bow to pressure. The Kansas City Chiefs, one of the most successful NFL teams in recent years whose players include Travis Kelce, boyfriend of Taylor Swift, have rejected demands from Native American groups to change their name. The Chiefs' fans often perform a 'tomahawk chop', waving their arms to mimic a Native American warrior. But fans were banned from attending games daubed in face paint and wearing headdresses in 2020. After a former Washington Commanders player called on his old team to return to its original name, Trump endorsed his campaign and urged other owners of sports teams to follow suit. 'Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen,' he wrote. 'Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!'
