John Leguizamo's 'The Green Veil' Renewed for Time-Jumping Season 2 After Surprise Success on Indie Streamer 'The Network' (EXCLUSIVE)
Homer's ancient Greek epic poem 'The Odyssey' remains one of the oldest pieces of literature still read by modern audiences. It chronicles the story of Greek hero Odysseus during his tumultuous journey home following the Trojan War.
'The Odyssey' is due in theaters on July 17, 2026. Nolan is set to write and will produce with Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner.
As Variety exclusively reported this week, the film will be partly filmed in Sicily, which is notable for being a location for Odysseus' wanderings in the epic. Shooting there is expected to begin in spring 2025 on the island of Favignana, considered the 'goat island,' which many believe to be the place where Homer visualized Odysseus landing with his crew.
Comedian and actor Leguizamo's career spans four decades, including memorable turns in films like 'To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar' (which earned him a Golden Globe nomination), 'Romeo + Juliet,' 'Summer of Sam,' 'Moulin Rouge,' 'The Pest,' the 'Ice Age' franchise, and 'The Menu,' among many others. His TV credits include 'When They See Us,' 'The Power,' 'Waco,' 'Bloodline,' and the MSNBC travel series 'Leguizamo Does America.' He received Emmy nods for both 'When They See Us' and 'Waco.' He has also performed multiple one man shows on Broadway, including 'Freak,' 'Sexaholix,' and 'Latin History for Morons,' earning himself multiple Tony Award nominations.
Universal had no comment. The InSneider was first to report the news of Leguizamo's casting.

Denis Villeneuve Will Shoot All of ‘Dune Messiah' in IMAX
Dune: Part Two was masterful on its own, but in IMAX, it was truly breathtaking. When director Denis Villeneuve opened his aspect ratio up to the full screen 1:43:1 for scenes such as Paul riding the sandworm, it was like traveling from the theater to Arrakis itself. So, it's no surprise that, hot on the heels of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey becoming the first ever Hollywood feature to be filmed entirely with full-screen IMAX 70mm-capable film cameras, we now know the second film to achieve that historic feat will be Denis Villeneuve's Dune Messiah. Speaking on CNBC, IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond broke the news in a larger segment about IMAX movies playing, and coming, to theaters. Here's the clip. A spokesperson for IMAX confirmed Gelfond's quotes that Villeneuve is, in fact, shooting all of Messiah with IMAX cameras. We also reached out to Warner Bros. but had yet to hear back as of publication. We'll update this story if and when we do. Of course, there have been many, many rumblings about Dune Messiah over the past several months, with the latest being that Villeneuve will start filming very soon. If this IMAX news is true, though, he will have to wait for Christopher Nolan to finish filming The Odyssey, as there are only a handful of cameras in the world capable of capturing movies in this way, and Nolan currently has all of them. However, this past weekend, several actors expected to appear in the third Dune film, such as Anya Taylor-Joy and Rebecca Ferguson, were spotted together at an F1 race in the United Kingdom. It's unconfirmed, but many assumed that's because they're all there getting ready for Dune. And yet, Warner Bros. has yet to officially announce that Villeneuve is even making the film. No official release date, no statement, nothing. Everyone seems to assume it's happening, especially after the recent casting of the Atreides kids. This IMAX news, though, adds to the overwhelming mountain of evidence that Dune Messiah is coming, it's coming soon, and it's going to be big. Want more io9 news? LeBron James, John Legend & More Invest $7 Million Into Fantasy Life Sports & Gaming Platform
Source: David Berding / Getty As fans wonder how many more seasons LeBron James will play in the NBA, the future Hall of Famer is already making sure he'll be busy once he hangs up his jersey. James has expanded his business portfolio by investing in the fantasy sports and gaming platform Fantasy Life, which was founded by OG fantasy football personality Matthew Berry. The four-time NBA champ is joined by childhood friend and business partner Maverick Carter and others, including businessman Gerry Cardinale, singer John Legend, and Fortnite co-creator Donald Mustard. According to Variety . Hey, all pooled together $7 million in the latest round of funding, which will help create a 'more customizable app and mobile experiences for players.' Beyond creating their own dream teams in basketball, football, baseball, and beyond, the app features sophisticated scoring via AI tools that enable users to compete against others for cash prizes. The money also offers Berry a sign of relief, as it helps the company complete the purchase of its rival platform, Guillotine League. Berry is glad that others in the sports world see potential in Fantasy Life and are on board to see it flourish. 'My entire adult life has been about helping fantasy players and sports gamers win, have more fun, and make this industry better,' said Berry in a statement to Variety . 'Fantasy Life is the culmination of my decades of experience — a destination for every kind of player, from beginner to sharp. With smart, personalized tools, entertaining content, and the best damn fantasy game ever in Guillotine Leagues, we're building a platform as obsessed with fantasy as we are. I'm incredibly honored that so many people I've long admired believe in what we're doing and want to be part of the journey. I can't wait for everyone to check out the new features and win more titles.' Other investors who signal that Berry has a hit on his hands include YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley and billionaire Jacksonville Jaguars owner Tony Khan.
