
New HDFC credit card rules: Utility payments beyond limit to face extra charges
'If you load third-party wallets with more than ₹ 10,000 per month on platforms like (but not limited to) PayTM, Mobikwik, Freecharge, or Ola Money using your credit card, a 1% charge will apply,' HDFC Bank said in its communication to credit card customers. 'The charge will be applicable on the entire wallet loading spend for the month and will be capped at ₹ 4999 per month,' it said.
For utility transactions, a charge of 1% will apply if you spend more than ₹ 50,000 per month using your personal credit card (consumer cards). The 1% charge will apply if you spend more than ₹ 75,000 per month using business credit cards.
'The charge will be applicable on the entire utility spend for the month and will be capped at ₹ 4999 per month,' HDFC Bank said. 'Insurance transactions won't be considered as utility transactions hence no charge will be applicable,' it said.
The bank has also capped reward points on insurance transactions on its popular credit cards. While the reward points on insurance transactions has been capped at 10000 per month on Infinia and Infinia Metal credit cards, it has been fixed at 5000 per month for Diners Black, Diners Black Metal and Biz Black Metal cards. For all other cards, the limit has been fixed at 2000 per month. Marriott Bonvoy cards, however, will not have capping on reward points for insurance transactions.
HDFC Bank has fixed the maximum charge per transaction for rent, fuel and education categories at ₹ 4999. 'Kindly note that the existing charge of 1% will continue to be applicable on all rent transactions, only on fuel transactions more than ₹ 15000/ ₹ 30000 per transaction and only on education transactions done via third-party apps,' it said. 'If you make payments through college/school websites or their POS (Point of Sales) machines, there will be no charges,' HDFC Bank said.
'If you spend more than ₹ 10,000 per month on platforms like (but not limited to) Dream11, Rummy Culture, Junglee Games, or MPL, a 1% charge will apply,' the bank said. 'The charge will be applicable on the entire online skill-based gaming spend for the month and will be capped at ₹ 4999 per month. No reward points will be earned on online skill-based gaming transactions,' it said.

Institutional confidence in Paytm continues to strengthen: Domestic MFs, FPIs raise stake
New Delhi [India], July 14 (ANI): Domestic mutual funds have increased their stake in Paytm to around 14 per cent, up from 13 per cent in January-March 2024-25, led by Motilal Oswal and Bandhan Mutual Funds, as per the April-June 2025-26 shareholding pattern. Insurance companies also raised their holdings by 1 per cent, taking total domestic institutional ownership from 14 per cent to 16 per cent quarter-on-quarter. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) also increased their overall stake during the quarter. FPI category saw the largest jump, rising from 18 per cent to 21 per cent. Institutions such as Amansa Holdings, Societe Generale - Odi and Theleme India Master Fund contributed to this gain. Meanwhile, the foreign direct investment (FDI) category declined to 33 per cent from 37 per cent led by 4 per cent stake sale by Antfin (Netherlands). The increase in domestic institutional and foreign portfolio holdings reflects continued investor confidence in Paytm's growth strategy and operational performance. In January-March 2024-25, Paytm reported revenue of ₹ 1,911 crore, marking continued progress on its path to profitability. During the quarter, the company also achieved EBITDA before ESOP profitability (excluding UPI Incentive) of ₹ 11 crore and narrowed its net loss to just ₹ 93 crore (excluding exceptional items), positioning it within reach of achieving profitability in the near future. Popular Indian fintech firm Paytm continues to strengthen the mobile payments experience with customer-centric innovations. The company has introduced five key features: the ability to hide or unhide specific payments for added privacy; home screen widgets like 'Receive Money' for faster access; personalised UPI IDs that allow creation of unique handles without revealing mobile numbers; downloadable UPI statements in Excel or PDF formats; and a consolidated view of total balance across all UPI-linked bank accounts. In this article, we will understand how you can donate your credit card reward points for charity and earn good karma. Banks give credit cardholders various options to redeem their reward points. The choice of redemption options provides flexibility to the cardholder to redeem the points as per the need at the time of redemption. Some of the redemption options that most banks provide their credit cardholders include the following. To purchase the gift card, take the following steps: Visit the American Express website and log into your Dashboard Click on the 'Rewards & Benefits' link Under the 'Redeem for INSTA Vouchers' tab, click on 'View all INSTA Vouchers' From the category dropdown list, select 'Charity'. Click on the 'Points for Good' voucher link. You will be shown two options: a Rs. 1,000 voucher for 4,000 reward points and a Rs. 5,000 voucher for 20,000 reward points. You get a redemption value of Rs. 0.25 per reward point. Select the voucher denomination as per the number of reward points you wish to donate and proceed ahead with the transaction. On transaction completion, the credit card reward points will be debited from your American Express credit card account. You will receive the 'Points for Good' voucher details through SMS and email.
