King Charles is reportedly hoping to lift his wife's spirits following a multitude of difficult events occurring in 2024.
According to Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden, King Charles shared his not-so-secret plan with her at the Royal Variety Performance late last year. "We talked a lot about Battersea Dogs Home and how he and Camilla would probably get another dog this year," Holden explained (via the Daily Mail). Holden also said of Charles, "I think he's got a great sense of humor."
In Feb. 2024, it was announced that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer. In Nov. 2024, Charles and Camilla shared the death of a beloved family member—their Jack Russell Terrier, Beth, whom they adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
According to Holden, Charles hopes to adopt another dog for his wife, which would be the perfect salve after a tumultuous year.
The King and Queen shared the news of Beth's death on Instagram, writing, "A sad farewell to Beth, The Queen's much-loved companion from @Battersea Dogs and Cats Home who brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire."
During an appearance on The Sun's "Royal Exclusive" show, royal photographer Arthur Edwards said, "Camilla would have been left heartbroken by the recent death of her rescue Jack Russell, Beth." He continued, "I remember once seeing [the dog] on an engagement down in Wiltshire, and the lady that walks them every day came along to see The Queen doing this engagement." Edwards explained, "When she got out of the car and saw the dogs, she went over and played with the dogs, and it made a better picture than the rest of the engagement."
It seems that Beth held an important place in Camilla's heart, with Edwards telling the outlet, "They were special to her and also to The King. I mean, The King absolutely loves animals...She would be upset about that."

I can't stop rewatching this dark comedy show from the 2000s on Prime Video – here's why it's still worth streaming

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Some TV shows are like comfort food, and for me, there's no show more comforting than Peep Show. The British sitcom from the early 2000s has been my go-to whenever I don't know what to watch for quite some time now, and for good reasons. For the uninitiated, Peep Show follows the miseries of self-doubting, uptight loan manager called Mark Corrigan (David Mitchell), who rents a room in his South London flat to Jeremy Usbourne (Robert Webb), aka Jez, an overconfident and impulsive musician. Together, they stumble, blindly through day-to-day life, usually ending up in a desperate situation of their own making. There's something weirdly cozy about watching two awkward flatmates spiral through life's small humiliations, especially when their internal monologues are so brutally honest – and endlessly quotable. I'm not ashamed to admit that I often find myself referencing memorable lines from the series. Don't believe me? Given that I'm writing about a TV show, I can't help but think about a fitting scene from one of my favorite episodes of the entire series, 'Seasonal Beatings' (episode 5 of season 7), where Mark is discussing what to watch next: "We watched all the Losts and they were… somewhat okay, and Heroes had some interesting themes, but also quite a lot of… not so interesting themes. And Prison Break, by the end I very much wanted to break out of the prison that Prison Break had become for us." Unlike many other shows, Peep Show isn't just "somewhat okay". It does have interesting themes and I never want to break out of my habit of streaming it on repeat. Whether you're discovering it for the first time on one of the best streaming services or rewatching it for the umpteenth time like me, Peep Show remains one of the most unique and rewarding comedies out there. Why you should (still) watch Peep Show The series features some of the best side characters you'll ever meet. From Jez's 'moreish' bandmate Super Hans (Matt King) and Mark's ruthless boss Alan Johnson (Paterson Joseph) to Mark's love interests Sophie (Olivia Coleman) and Dobby (Isy Suttie), the supporting cast are every bit as quirky and engaging as the two leads. Peep Show's cringe humor often sees the show get compared to another well-loved sitcom you might have heard of: The Office. But while both shows are filled with awkward silences and cringe-inducing lead characters, Peep Show is in a class of its own. Its humor is more polished (yes, there are moments of chaos but it doesn't turn slapstick), its underlining themes are much darker (in one episode it goes to the 'heart of darkness') and its characters are far more deluded (the show really doesn't hold back on just how much so at times). But at the same time, it's not doing any of this in a pretentious way. Indeed, there's no gloss here. The flats are grim, the jobs are soul-crushing (although one character does get close to the 'big three': 'museum, lunch and a snooze'), and the dreams are small. But that's what makes the show so easy to watch, because it doesn't pretend to be anything grand. The secondhand embarrassment you feel from the comedy is all amplified by the shaky point-of-view (POV) filming that the show is known for. There's nowhere for the viewer to hide. You see everything up close, making you feel like you're inside the lead characters' heads. While the filming style is unique, it can also take some getting used to. The first season was very much still finding its (rainbow) rhythm with the POV camerawork, and mounted head cameras to the actors to produce the effect – the quality of the footage these cameras produced was quite low, which is why they're used less later in the series. Basically, don't skip the first season because you're put off by the video quality; stick with it, because you'll be rewarded with some of the best gags in the series, including one that makes a reappearance in season 5, which you wouldn't otherwise get if you skipped it. What also makes it such a comforting TV show to stream is that the episodes are short, usually just under 30 minutes, but a lot still happens throughout. Peep Show is the perfect series for short sittings when you need something light to watch because you can easily tune in and out of it. So what are you waiting for? Pour yourself a massive drink. Turn on the TV and crack open this exceptionally funny show that deserves your attention immediately. Merry Peep Show watching everyone! Peep Show is available to watch on Prime Video, Hulu and BritBox in the US, as well as some of the best free streaming services, including Pluto TV, Plex and The Roku Channel. Meanwhile, those in the UK can find it on Netflix, while Australians can stream it on Prime Video, BritBox and Stan. Ballard could hardly have been worse than Bosch Legacy, but it's actually great – here's why I'm loving Prime Video's hard-hitting crime drama

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. If you weren't a fan of police procedural Bosch or its subsequent spinoff Bosch: Legacy, there's a good chance you're ready to write off Prime Video's latest installment, Ballard. Despite only being released on July 9, the new TV show has already got an astonishing 100% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes…and that's excellent news for the franchise as a whole. But it isn't just the smashing review score that's responsible for Ballard's success. If you've not already spotted it on our everything new coming to Prime Video in July 2025 list, the series follows LAPD detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q) as she oversees a cold case in a new department. As you might imagine, it's all not as straightforward as that. Don't let Bosch: Legacy dissuade you from trying Ballard as it hasn't set an amazing example for crime fans wanting to tune in. Sure, the critic's score still stacks up (it also had 100% on Rotten Tomatoes), but Harry Bosch's (Titus Welliver) retirement was more of the same, and that got tired and stale as the years passed. Even though we drove a cop car head-first into a snooze fest, don't tarnish Ballard with the same brush. Don't write off Prime Video's Ballard just because Bosch: Legacy was awful Frankly, there's never been a better time to be a Bosh: Legacy hater than now. Ballard's return to the small screen has made stimulating and fresh crime drama look so effortless, it's difficult to see how the franchise avoided a new lease of life for so long. The fact we only briefly met Ballard herself during the finale of Bosch: Legacy doesn't hurt (she's a big part of Michael Connelly's original book series), but the new show's sprint towards success runs much deeper than that. We start off strong with Maggie Q's casting – the actress is arguably underappreciated in the action movie genre she's cultivating as her own (Mission: Impossible III remains the best in my book, and she should have had a two-film arc at the very least). Her cold-case detective is sharp and commanding, relentless in the face of the city's challenges. So far, so good. Then there's the storylines themselves. Ballard isn't choosing to play it safe, extending the danger we'd normally see within the department into the personal lives of characters we're growing attached to. Ballard beats up an intruder who enters her home, Samira Parker (Courtney Taylor) isn't afraid to be a voice for the most vulnerable victims, and corrupt police conduct is exposed and tackled without hesitation. Prime Video has also played it smart by including Bosch as a cameo role in the new series. Those that did appreciate the main series and Bosch: Legacy don't have to do without him, but there's more than enough breathing room for Ballard to become its own programme. There are no shadows to stand in here. So what are you waiting for? Ballard is the new TV show you need to be streaming this week. If nothing else, you might be inspired to kick a door down (or two). Even a Fantastic Four cast member doesn't know what happens in the movie yet: "I'm so glad I can stand on the red carpet and not worry about giving anything away"

If you feel like you don't really know much about the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, you don't have to worry about being out of the loop, as even one of the stars says he doesn't know much about the upcoming superhero film… and he's in it. "I did like two days of it. I'm just in the trailer a lot because I sort of do the exposition," said Mark Gatiss to Variety. Gatiss plays a '60s talk show host in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. However, as Gatiss outlines, his limited time on set and the secrecy around the movie which is fine with him. "I'm so glad I can stand on the red carpet and not worry about giving anything away." The upcoming movie is not an origin story, and will catch up with an already established group of Supes who are extremely famous across the world. So much so, they live in the Baxter Building, worth a cool $4.4 million. This means that the four have to partake in a lot of celebrity rituals, like appearing on talk shows where they meet Gatiss' host Ted Gilbert of The Ted Gilbert Show. We get a glimpse of Ted Gilbert at the beginning of The Fantastic Four: First Steps' final trailer. He introduces the heroes by saying, "Well, folks, we all know the story. Four brave astronauts head up into space and come back forever changed." Gatiss had worked with Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman previously on Game of Thrones. So when it came time for the filmmaker to find his 'Ed Sullivan' type host for the "retro future '60s Fantastic Four world," he knew where to look. "He's terrific in the film," said Shakman of Gatiss. "I'm in awe of his talent and already hoping for another project we can do together." However, although he may only appear in a handful of scenes, Gattiss' character was no easy feat. Gatiss explained how he studied a lot of archival television from the '60s to really get a grasp of his character in the "Jetsons"-like universe. The star even tried on wigs, and a number of costumes before he found Gilbert's look. Well, it looks like Gatiss, along with the rest of us, will have to wait to see how Marvel's first family's battle with Galactus ends. Fantastic Four stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Benn Grimm, Julia Garner as Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus.
