Catholic Congress reasserts relevance of Church leadership
Thalassery Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany, who inaugurated the conference on Sunday evening, said that Christians in Kerala would present a united front on key issues. He pointed to the large gathering as evidence of the community's backing for the Church leadership.
Politics of survival
Catholic Congress's global president Rajiv Kochuparambil, who presided over the conference, said that the politics of the Church was the politics of survival. Issues of a diocese will be considered as issues of the entire Christian community, he said.
In his keynote address, Palakkad Bishop Mar Peter Kochupurackal pointed out the Christian community's inherent wisdom and discernment. He said the community had always remained free from subjugation by refusing to be bound by anyone's authority.
Mar Jacob Manathodath said that the Catholic Congress still had a long way to go. Catholic Congress's global secretary Josekutty J. Ozhukayil, global director Fr. Philip Kaviyil, diocesan president Bobby Bastin, diocesan director Fr. Cherian Anjilimootil, Fr. Saji Vattukattil, Theresa Liz Sebastian, Fr. Michael Vettikkatt, Biju Parayannilam, V.V. Augustine, Fr. Arun Kalamattathil, Sunny Mathew Nedumpuram, Beena Thakkarapalli, and Abhilash Punnamthadathil addressed the gathering.

Diocesan general secretary Gijo Arakkal proposed a vote of thanks. Delegates from across the country and representatives from from France, Australia, the U.K., Ireland, the U.S.A. and Italy attended the conference. Thalassery Archdiocese will host the next conference.
A massive rally was taken out to the venue from Fort Maidan here. Thousands of people took part in the rally. Fr. Kaviyil and Fr. Anjilimootil flagged off the rally. The rally raised slogans focussing on issues such as the J.B. Koshi Commission report, farmer problems, wild animal attacks and drug abuse.

Feucht later performed at a private venue in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, hosted by pastors Christine and Neil Barr. They said they faced hundreds of hate messages and some protests but went ahead with the show. In response to criticism, Feucht posted: 'If I had shown up with purple hair and a dress, no one would've cared. But my Christian beliefs are seen as a threat.' Opponents said his views go against Parks Canada's values of inclusion and safety. Turk countered that while physical safety must be ensured, 'a subjective feeling of being unsafe' isn't legal grounds to silence someone.

Three, including two nuns, held for human trafficking in Chhattisgarh
RAIPUR: Three persons, including two Catholic nuns who had reportedly come from Agra, were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Durg on Friday for alleged human trafficking amid suspicion of coerced religious conversion. They were remanded to 14-day judicial custody, a police officer said. The trio were booked under BNS Section 143 (trafficking of persons). All three were caught accompanying three young women aged between 18 and 20 years, hailing from Narayanpur district in south Bastar, after Bajrang Dal activists spotted them at Durg railway station. The group was allegedly preparing to travel to Agra for training and subsequent employment opportunities. Bajrang Dal members staged demonstrations at the Durg GRP police station demanding strict action against those allegedly involved in human trafficking and forced religious conversion. 'The nuns had come to Durg merely a day before without any valid reason. They were about to board a train along with the rescued girls to Agra when we spotted them,' said Ravi Nigam, a Bajrang Dal leader. Members of the Christian community also gathered at the GRP Durg station and were seen defending the nuns. The two nuns — Preeti Marry and Vandana Francis — who had come from Agra, along with Sukhman Mandavi from Narayanpur, were produced before a local court in Durg and remanded to 14-day judicial custody. The rescued girls have been sent to the Sakhi One Stop Centre in Durg. Meanwhile, Congress MP K C Venugopal has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai seeking stringent action against the perpetrators. He also urged the government to uphold constitutional rights and religious freedom in the state. The Congress leader alleged that BJP-ruled states are witnessing a rampant rise in attacks on minorities. 'The latest attacks by Bajrang Dal goons on two Catholic nuns in Durg, Chhattisgarh, point to a tacit support for such hate crimes from the ruling establishment,' Venugopal wrote on X.

Mob justice: Church condemns arrest of nuns in Chhattisgarh
Kochi: The Syro-Malabar Church on Sunday strongly condemned the arrest of two Malayali nuns in Chhattisgarh, calling it an attack on minorities. The nuns—Sister Vandana and Sister Preeti from the Green Gardens religious community—were arrested by the railway police in Durg on Friday, on charges of human trafficking. The Church stated that the nuns were accompanying three adult women to Fatima Hospital in Agra, where they were scheduled to begin work. Despite carrying all the required documents, they were intercepted at Durg railway station by a mob claiming to be Bajrang Dal activists, who accused them of engaging in religious conversion. It further said the nuns, who have made significant contributions to leprosy eradication and patient care, were subjected to mob justice and falsely accused, leading to their arrest and imprisonment. This incident, it stated, reflects a breakdown of the rule of law and growing bias in the legal system. Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) has taken steps toward securing their release, and is expected to file a bail plea on Monday. Political leaders also condemned the incident. MP KC Venugopal said attacks on minorities have increased in BJP-ruled states like Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh.
