Varun Dhawan's new heroine in Border 2, Medha Rana and Anushka Sharma have something in common; here's what we know
Why Medha was picked for the role
The makers of Border 2 have revealed how they were looking for someone who could naturally fit into the world of the story. Since the film is based on a real-life historical event, it required actors who could speak the regional dialect and carry deep emotions on screen.
Producer Bhushan Kumar shared that Medha stood out during auditions. 'She had a strong grasp on the dialect and impressed us with her emotional depth. We truly believe she will bring realism and depth to the character,' he said. Another producer, Nidhi Dutta, added that Medha's sincerity and natural energy match the film's tone. 'She brings freshness and strength to the role,' she added.
Medha Rana and Anushka Sharma have this in common
Born on December 25, 1999, Medha Rana is originally from Bengaluru but grew up in Gurugram, Delhi. She comes from an army background and studied at Army Public School, Bengaluru, where she completed her senior schooling. Later, Medha pursued a BBA degree in finance and marketing from Christ University, Bengaluru.
An interesting parallel, actor Anushka Sharma also studied at Army School, Bengaluru, and later pursued her graduation in arts from Mount Carmel College. Moreover, cricketer Devdutt Padikkal was a student in the same school before making it big in the IPL and representing India. Clearly, the school has been a stepping stone for many shining stars.
From modeling to acting
Medha's journey into modeling began unexpectedly. At just 13, she was shopping with her parents in a mall in Chandigarh when she met fashion stylist Prasad Bidapa. He encouraged her parents to consider modeling. While they didn't take it seriously at the time, it eventually became a stepping stone in her career.
Work before Border 2
Though still new to films, Medha has done a few projects. She was seen in the Voot web series London Files and later in Netflix's Friday Night Plan. She also starred in the Amazon mini-series Ishq in the Air.
In addition to acting, she has appeared in several ad campaigns and music videos. She was featured in Armaan Malik's song Barsaat and worked with brands like Lenskart and Cadbury.
About Border 2
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 is set to release on January 23, 2026. The film is inspired by the Battle of Saragarhi, where 21 Sikh soldiers fought against thousands of Afghan tribesmen in 1897. Although the title may suggest otherwise, the film is not a direct sequel to the 1997 film Border. It features an all-new story, new characters, and a different war setting.
Along with Varun Dhawan and Medha Rana, the cast also includes Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty. Fans now wait to see who will be cast opposite the other two leads.Backed by T-Series and JP Films, Border 2 promises to be an emotional and powerful tribute to India's soldiers.

'Even Rajesh Khanna used placards I think,' says Suneel Darshan as he reacts to reports of Akshay Kumar using a teleprompter to say his dialogues
Akshay Kumar and producer Suneel Darshan shared a long professional association as they did seven movies together. Infact, the producer has said that he gave the actor 'Jaanwar' when nobody else was giving him work and Akshay had promised to do 100 movies with him. But the duo had a fall out as Akshay backed out of his project because as per Suneel, he did not want to work with Priyanka due to his personal problems. This film in question was 'Barsaat' which later went on to have Bobby Deol opposite Priyanka. In a recent interview, Suneel was asked if its true that Akshay uses teleprompters as per the recent reports. Reacting to it, he said during an interview with Vickey Lalwani, "I think it's good if an actor can memorise his lines but it is difficult. We managed it earlier because we did lesser work, focused work. But I started experiencing it towards the end of my journey with him. We didn't have teleprompters then but we had placards which he would read from. It's not the first time an actor did that. I think Rajesh Khanna also did that." He added further, "But talking about Akshay Kumar. He's not a bad guy firstly. Secondly, he has his good points, you can't deny it. Unfortunately, sometimes, your personal issues are not controllable and they come out. But he's not a bad guy." Suneel hinted that perhaps Akshay's wife Twinkle Khanna did not want him to do this film with Priyanka due to rumours of their affair. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like We Have No Words For Dog The Bounty Hunter's Transformation Cash Roadster Undo Talking about Akshay backing out of his film, Suneel had said, "Suddenly after asking that person to wait for 18 months for your dates, you one day just say, 'Sorry, I can't be a part of it.' I was shocked. The circumstances had reached such a point where… there were issues,' he explained. The decision was left to the producer. 'The audience, the public, the media did mention of a relationship, which the wife got more of…' Akshay later tried to make it up to the filmmaker by offering to work on another film instead. But by then, Suneel had already made up his mind, 'He did want to compensate by saying that I did the next film for you. But I did not. I just thought this was unbelievable. Coming from Akshay… your expectations were never too much.' However, now Suneel holds no grudges and still was all praise for Akshay's discipline and hard work.

Suniel Shetty Says Star Kids Face More Pressure Today: 'Everybody Believes They Are A Critic'
Last Updated: Suniel Shetty reflects on the evolving film industry, stating that star kids today face more pressure than before due to fierce competition and constant public scrutiny. Having spent over three decades in the film industry, Suniel Shetty has worn many hats — from being the quintessential action hero of the '90s to dabbling in negative roles and now thriving in the OTT space. As he gears up for the release of Hunter Season 2, the veteran actor opened up in an interview with Hindustan Times about the shifting landscape of Bollywood, especially for newcomers. Shetty, who carved his place in the industry without a filmi background, recalled facing resistance in his early years for not fitting the 'conventional hero" mold. 'People told me I didn't look like a hero," he said. Yet, he persevered and went on to become one of the defining action stars of his generation. However, when asked about the current crop of newcomers, Shetty had an interesting take. Contrary to the belief that star kids have it easy, he argued that today's industry is far less forgiving. 'The kids have to work harder to prove themselves," he explained. 'Earlier, they assumed they'd automatically be a part of the film world. Today, they know they have to educate themselves, be prepared — whether it's acting, body language, or everything else. You can't skip the fundamentals." He pointed out that while competition is undoubtedly fierce, it's the audience scrutiny that's become relentless. 'Everyone is a critic today," Shetty observed. 'But it's not constructive criticism — it's about trashing films and performances. That kind of judgment takes a toll." His own children have experienced the highs and lows of the industry. Daughter Athiya Shetty made her debut with Hero in 2015 but quietly stepped away from acting after her 2019 release Motichoor Chaknachoor didn't click at the box office. Son Ahan Shetty entered the scene with Tadap in 2021 and now has Border 2 and Sanki in the pipeline. Meanwhile, Suniel continues to reinvent himself. In Hunter Season 2 on Amazon MX Player, he shares screen space with Jackie Shroff, Anusha Dandekar, and Barkha Bisht, proving that even after 30 years, he's still got his finger on the pulse of the times.
