Israel: Targeting Hezbollah stronghold in Southern Lebanon

Shafaq News2 days ago

Shafaq News - Nabatiyeh
Israeli warplanes launched a series of airstrikes on Thursday targeting the Ali Al-Taher area in the southern Lebanese city of Nabatieh.
Eyewitnesses told Shafaq News that several explosions were heard in the area, accompanied by the sound of Israeli jet fighters. Surveillance drones were also seen flying over multiple locations in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli Army spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, said Israeli fighter jets targeted a site in the Mount Shuqayf area (known locally as Ali Al-Taher) of southern Lebanon that was being 'used to operate Hezbollah's fire control and protection systems.'

According to Adraee, the site is part of an underground project that had previously been disabled by Israeli strikes but was undergoing reconstruction.
'The existence of this site and the attempts to rebuild it constitute a blatant violation of the agreements between Israel and Lebanon,' Adraee said, adding, the army will continue working to eliminate 'any threat to the State of Israel.'
The area had also been hit in a previous Israeli strike last month that killed two civilians, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or material damage from Thursday's attacks.
Lebanese authorities have yet to issue an official response.

Al-Maliki: Iraq must strengthen its state and security institutions

Shafaq News – Baghdad Nouri al-Maliki, the head of the State of Law Coalition, emphasized the need for Iraq to become a strong state capable of defending its sovereignty, warning that regional conflicts could eventually impact Iraq. In a statement released by his media office to mark the Islamic month of Muharram and the commemoration of Ashura, al-Maliki said that true reform should go beyond political slogans, 'It must involve a strategic framework that tackles weaknesses in state institutions, promotes social justice, improves living standards, provides essential services, and creates employment opportunities. These are legitimate rights of the people—not a favor from anyone or a political bargaining chip.' Al-Maliki also stressed the importance of conducting an urgent review of Iraq's security and military institutions to ensure they are capable of maintaining political, social, and security stability, and of defending the country from external threats. Referring to escalating regional tensions, he pointed out, 'Today, as the region undergoes dangerous transformations, and with the Israeli wars rolling from Gaza to Lebanon, then Syria, and now threatening the Islamic Republic [of Iran], Iraq will not remain immune.' 'Iraq must be a strong state, equipped with all means to defend its sovereignty, people, and sacred sites.' Al-Maliki concluded by noting that while global powers possess all forms of strength, Iraq must aspire to reach a similar level—not for aggression, as in the era of the former Ba'athist regime—but to safeguard its sovereignty, rights, and the higher interests of the Iraqi people.

Gaza toll mounts as Tel Aviv protests intensify

Shafaq News - Gaza At least 72 Palestinians were killed overnight in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, including in Khan Younis, Gaza City, and near Palestine Stadium, according to the enclave's Health Ministry. According to Palestinian media, the Israeli military conducted attacks across the Strip with drone and jet strikes, targeting individuals and buildings alike. جانب من غارات الاحتلال على منازل الفلسطينيين في جباليا، شمال قطاع غزة. — شبكة قدس الإخبارية (@qudsn) June 28, 2025 The new casualties raise Gaza's death toll to over 56,000 since the war began in October 2023. More than 6,000 have died since hostilities resumed in March, amid severe shortages of food, water, and medical aid. The humanitarian crisis continues to deepen, with widespread displacement, ongoing bombardments, and restricted access to essential services. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump projected a truce 'within a week,' citing progress in negotiations involving Israeli and US officials. Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer is expected in Washington for follow-up consultations to finalize terms. Qatari and Egyptian mediators have reportedly stepped up indirect talks with Hamas and Israel, with Hamas outlining its conditions for a Gaza ceasefire, demanding protections for its political bureau members abroad. Public anger escalated in Tel Aviv on Saturday night, where thousands marched in protest, demanding a ceasefire and the return of hostages. Demonstrators chanted against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's handling of the war, warning protests would continue until a resolution is achieved.

Iran's Shamkhani: I Was Not Afraid

Shafaq News – Tehran Ali Shamkhani, a senior advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader and former Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, has revealed details of a failed assassination attempt carried out by Israel. Speaking in a televised interview, Shamkhani said he remained conscious during the operation and immediately began planning how to survive. 'I was alert from the first moment and tried to design a way out. I was not afraid,' he said, noting that similar threats in the past had prepared him for such situations. Shamkhani said his wife and son were also injured during the attack, adding, 'I tried to find hope by calling out my son's name.' He described being unable to speak clearly at the time due to oxygen pressure and the shock of the situation. Addressing broader national security issues, Shamkhani emphasized the need for constant vigilance and readiness to face threats, calling for continued development of Iran's military capabilities and warning against relying on negotiations. He attributed recent domestic unrest to external manipulation, stating, 'There have been efforts to create internal conditions for provoking protests, but the Iranian people are wise and have disappointed the enemy.' He praised the solidarity shown by the public in the aftermath of recent events, describing it as a sign of deep awareness rather than emotional reaction. 'This unity reflects a recognition of the enemy's goals and Iran's importance,' he added. Shamkhani also pointed to the strong reactions from foreign media, saying, 'From the anger of foreign outlets, I understood that we are on the right path and have dealt heavy blows.' He also criticized narratives that link domestic protests to the Iranian leadership, arguing that such portrayals reveal the deep frustration of those mourning the loss of targeted Iranian commanders. Reaffirming the strategic basis of Iran's military operations, Shamkhani stated that all actions are pre-planned and carried out with the support of the people, the armed forces, and the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Alo Khamenei.
