PM Modi, on his first bilateral visit to the Caribbean nation as Prime Minister, was conferred with The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, becoming the first foreign leader to receive the country's highest civilian honour.
Accepting the award, he said, 'I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to you, your government, and the people for honouring me with the highest national award, the 'Order of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago'.
I accept this honour on behalf of 140 crore Indians as a shared pride.'
During his address, PM Modi spoke of the enduring bond between the nations, forged over 180 years ago when the first Indian immigrants arrived in Trinidad.
'The Indian beats blended beautifully with the Caribbean rhythm... From politics to poetry, cricket to commerce – they contribute to every field,' he said.
He also praised the country's representation of women in Parliament, saying, 'I'm delighted to see so many women members in this house. Respect for women is deeply rooted in Indian culture. One of our important holy texts, the Skanda Purana, says that one daughter brings as much happiness as ten sons.

President Christine Kangaloo, who presented PM Modi with the honour at a ceremony at the President's House, called his kindness and generosity 'legendary,' particularly recalling India's vaccine donation during the COVID-19 crisis. 'That act of kindness only further strengthened the longstanding relationship between the governments and people of both our countries,' she said.
PM Modi was welcomed with traditional performances and enthusiastic cheers from the Indian diaspora upon arrival. His visit, part of a five-nation tour, also includes stops in Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia, culminating with the BRICS Summit in Brazil from July 5–8.

The spirit of bakthi hung in the air and Prime Minister Narendra Modi soaked in the spiritual experience during his more than two-hour visit to the Brihadisvara temple in Gangaikonda Cholapuram on Sunday. Sporting a traditional Tamil attire of white dhoti (veshti) and half-sleeve shirt with an angavastram (upper cloth), Mr. Modi offered prayers at the Shiva temple built by Rajendra Chola I, which is famous for its imposing architecture and exquisite sculptures. The maestro with his mesmerising voice rendered the Namah Shivaya Vaazhga Naadhanthaal Vaazhga and Poovar Senni Mannan of Saint Manickavasagar. The performances drew standing ovations from the Prime Minister. Moved by the spiritual atmosphere, Mr. Modi acknowledged it while speaking at the valedictory of the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival at the temple complex. Greeting the audience with 'Vanakkam Cholamandalam' (salutations to the Chola region), Mr. Modi appreciated the performances of Mr. Ilaiyaraaja and the Odhuvars. He handed over a pot of Ganga water from Kasi to the Sivachariars at the temple. The celebration of Ganga in the land of the Cauvery is also a legacy of the Chola Empire, he observed, and expressed happiness that he had once again brought Ganga water to Tamil Nadu. He viewed a thematic photo exhibition on 'Saiva Siddhanta and Chola Temple Arts', put up by the Union Ministry of Culture. Impressed by the achievements of the Cholas, he urged the people to visit the exhibition without fail. Mr. Modi released a Tamil musical album on Bhagavad Gita brought out by Chinmaya Mission and a publication on Thevaram brought out by Sahitya Akademi. In a fresh broadside against the BJP over the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee sarcastically demanded that the "non-biological" Prime Minister should be excluded from the list of eligible at an event in West Bengal's Hooghly district, Banerjee referenced PM Modi's past comments about being 'sent by God,' a remark that has since been used by several opposition leaders to mock the Prime PM Modi is non-biological and he is born spiritually as like Goddesses Kali, Durga and Lord Ram, then PM Modi is also not the Citizen of India. So his name should also be removed from the voter list,' Banerjee jibed.
