Rosemary Shrager bitten by an adder after falling into a bush during 'foolhardy' 450-mile bike ride - leaving leg ‘black and yellow' with its venom

Daily Mail30-06-2025
Rosemary Shrager recalled the moment she was bitten by an adder after she fell into a bush during a 450-mile bike ride.
The TV chef featured on Monday's instalment of Loose Women and joined panellists Ruth Langsford, Linda Robson, Oti Mabuse and Katie Piper.
She recently completed a whopping bike ride called Two Wheels For Meals and rode for 18 days all the way from Land's End to Dover to raise funds to donate to food poverty charities.
To prepare for the big ride, Rosemary trained and worked on her fitness, but she 'kept falling off her bike'.
Things took a turn when she fell onto an unsuspecting snake while cycling in Cornwall.
'I fell onto an adder and it did bite me... on my leg,' Rosemary recalled.
'The problem was I didn't dare tell anyone, this was in Cornwall I fell into a hedge and my leg went into the grass and I literally fell on the adder.'
She added: 'It just obviously didn't like me, it bit me.'
However, the TV chef revealed she didn't tell anyone as she wanted to continue the journey.
'But I didn't want to tell anyone because I had to get from that destination to that destination everyday it was sometimes 55 miles, sometimes 48, it was a lot,' Rosemary said.
The bite mark on her leg turned yellow and she even developed a 'black line'.
She described: 'Basically I had to make it. I thought if I told them, then in the evening I saw it and it was that big, it was yellow, two prongs in my leg with a black line about that thick all the way around it and I couldn't believe it and I thought no, I'm not going to say anything I'm just going to carry on.'
Ruth asked: 'Weren't you worried it had poisoned you or something?'

But Rosemary revealed she wasn't too concerned as she was aware adder bites usually aren't dangerous to most people.
'I wasn't because I do know the adders in this country, you can't really die from the bite but you can become quite ill,' She explained.
'If you do have an adder bite, go to hospital straight away. I was foolhardy because I was on this mission and I knew they'd take me off the challenge and if they had taken me off the challenge I would have never had made it.'
According to The Wildlife Trusts, the adder is the UK's only venomous snake and is typically only dangerous to ill, very young or old people.
They urge anyone bitten to seek medical attention immediately.
Rosemary wrote in The Daily Mail earlier this month how she lost three stone from changing her lifestyle for the bike ride.
'Nine months after I started training, I'm more than three stone lighter and four dress sizes smaller,' she said.
However, she revealed it wasn't just exercise that helped her to shed the pounds, a weight loss jab.
Rosemary penned: 'And while I can credit perseverance plus the support of a personal trainer and cycling partner, I have something else to thank for my achievements – Ozempic.'
Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV1 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm and is available to stream on ITVX.

Ore Oduba breaks down in tears as 'ashamed and embarrassed' presenter admits he's been scammed in elaborate online hoax

TV personality Ore Oduba was reduced to tears on Sunday evening after revealing he's been duped by an elaborate online scam. Sharing a six-minute video with Instagram followers, Oduba, 39, struggled to contain his emotions while admitting he'd fallen victim to the con after scammers exploited his passion for American podcaster Mel Robbins and her series of self-help books - among them The Let Them Theory. The presenter had publicly advocated Robbins during a previous appearance on ITV show Loose Women by claiming her philosophy 'changed his life.' And Oduba - who once helped viewers avoid insurance scams as host of BBC documentary series Claimed And Shamed - says he was contacted by someone claiming to be Robbins following his appearance on the daytime panel show. He said: 'I reposted that interview, I tagged the Mel Robbins podcast, tagged the Let Me theory, tagged Mel, tagged everybody who cared, and then I got an email from my agent who forwarded on an email from the team at the Mel Robbins podcast. 'I could have cried - they knew who I was! I got an email from the Mel Robbins podcast team.' He added: 'I told Mel everything. How she had changed my life. And I literally said at the end of the email, even for you to know who I am, is everything. Thank you so much for getting in touch.' Admitting he was 'ashamed and embarrassed' by the con, a tearful Oduba recalled being invited onto the Robbins' podcast - currently among the top 15 podcasts in the United States with more than 20 million subscribers. 'I'm reading this back and I know exactly how it made me feel at the time,' he said. 'I wrote back and I said, "Mel, I'm holding back tears. Is this for real? You must have AI helping you correspond with all of these fans." 'Mel wrote back, "of course it's me - it's Mel Robbins." So then I lost my s**t, I absolutely lost my s**t, in tears on an Avanti West Coast train from Birmingham to London, thinking that my whole life was about to change. He added: 'By the way I used to host a show about scammers.I have watched enough Watchdog to last a lifetime - that doesn't stop me being in the middle of it. 'I never thought I'd be the person that would be scammed.' Oduba soon realised the email had been sent from a Gmail account - an immediate red flag - and worse, even Mel's name had been misspelt. After contacting the Robbins PR tea via her official website, the presenter's fears were confirmed when he was told that any correspondence sent from a Gmail account will be a scam. Captioning Sunday's Instagram post, he wrote: 'I'm ashamed, I'm embarrassed and I'm human. Did not think I would be the kind of person who could be scammed, but this proves it really can happen to anyone. 'Especially with the help and manipulation of AI. I'm terrified how easily I was 'hooked'. It was SO convincing, it's scary.' He added: 'I've made no secret of how much Mel Robbins, her book and podcast have helped me through a really difficult period. 'Truth is I turned an emotional blind eye to something I so deeply wanted to believe was for me and nearly got myself into a whole heap of trouble (sidenote.. I've realised in making this video how often we do the same thing in relationships too!) 'Listen to your gut, it's most likely telling you the truth. And don't get scammed, it's no fun. 'Still inspired by and love Mel Robbins and so grateful to them for their swift response. I got lucky - it could so easily have been too late.'

Ruth Langsford 'fights to keep £3.6m mansion' and finally ditches wedding ring

The Loose Women star has reportedly ditched her wedding ring after splitting from Eamonn Holmes last year. Ruth Langsford has been spotted without her wedding ring for the first time since splitting from Eamonn Holmes. The former power couple's shock break-up was announced last May, and a source tells OK! that ditching the ring after so long was a 'no turning back' decision for Ruth. ‌ The source close to the star said: 'Removing that ring might have been a shock to fans, after she's worn it for so long. But it was the final bit of closure. It was a message to Eamonn and symbolic that Ruth's marriage and that chapter of her life is over. ‌ "She's closing the door on her past for good. 'Taking it off is Ruth saying, 'I've moved on, it's all behind me.' She's just desperate to get this divorce out of the way, now. There's no turning back.' ‌ Ruth posted an Instagram video recently which showed her happily prepping one of her 'favourite summer dishes' – a 'colourful, no-cook salad'. It's not the first time Ruth – now locked in a divorce battle with GB News presenter Eamonn – has shared her love of cooking on social media, but it's the first time she's done so having quietly removed her wedding ring. It comes after Eamonn, who is battling serious health issues, was seen using a walking frame at a glitzy night out in London with girlfriend Katie Alexander, 43, on his arm. The pair were attending fellow GB News star Nana Akua's party as Nana celebrated her engagement to fiancé Stephen Gillen at London's swanky Blue Marlin Club. ‌ Ruth has stayed mostly silent on the celebrity split. However, ditching her wedding ring could be the biggest sign yet that she's over her husband, along with the wild nights out she has enjoyed with showbiz pals such as Rylan Clark and Lizzie Cundy, as documented on social media. Ruth did address the break-up on Instagram last September when a fan posed a question in response to a video she had posted, which showed her sharing how to make a healthy drink, reports the Mirror. ‌ 'Why has she still got her wedding rings on?' the fan asked, to which Ruth fired back, 'Because I'm still married.' She then added two crying with laughter emojis to make sure the fan knew she was keeping her sense of humour about the pointed question. Meanwhile, the former couple's divorce battle rumbles on. Ruth had previously hired a top divorce lawyer, and it's believed she has been fighting to ensure she can keep their £3.6 million six-bedroom home in Surrey. ‌ Back in May, counsellor Katie had her own 'ring-gate' moment, when she took to social media to shut down rumours that she and Eamonn were engaged, after followers spotted what they thought was an engagement ring on her finger in a snap with former This Morning host Eamonn. Katie said: 'Before anyone jumps to the #ringgate bandwagon, the camera is reversed so... RightHandRingFinger!' Meanwhile, whether Eamonn takes the next step with Katie or not, our source claims that Ruth is focused on the future. ‌ They said: 'As all her friends are saying, Ruth has never looked or felt better. She's rested, she's looking great, she's enjoying her Pilates sessions and life is good.' The source adds, 'Ruth is literally living her best life. She knows Eamonn is happy with Katie and she's really not bothered about what his future plans are. 'She's putting everything into looking after herself and her career right now, which she loves. The only thing holding her back is the divorce – it's going on way too long and she just wants it to be over so she can get on with her life.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Loose Women's Denise Welch addresses soap return amid ITV bloodbath

Long-time Loose Women panellist Denise Welch says she's planning a big career move next year, following ITV's announcement that it was cutting the show back to 30 weeks a year Denise Welch was already a respected stage actress before making her TV debut in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet in the mid eighties. Forty years on, she's known as one of the most outspoken - and also popular - panellists on ITV's Loose Women, but in this exclusive chat, Denise says she's keen to return to her professional roots. ‌ Earlier this year, ITV announced it was merging production teams on three of its daytime shows, and cutting Loose Women and Lorraine back to 30 weeks a year. ‌ The effect, although the channel has yet to announce anything publicly, is expected to be job losses amongst the backstage crew, but the future of the panellists themselves is still an unknown. ‌ Although ITV bosses insisted there wouldn't be any 'radical changes' to the panel line-up, which includes telly favourites like Denise, Coleen Nolan and Ruth Langsford, it's understandably prompted a few thoughts about what's next. For Denise, who first appeared on the daytime show 2005, it's an opportunity to make a return to what she knows and loves best — acting. ‌ 'I'm on television because I'm gobby and opinionated, and I think people can forget what I really do, and what I'm really good at, so I'm going to make a concerted effort to go back to what I do and know," she told OK! magazine. That said, the 67-year-old former Coronation Street star, who recently celebrated 12 years of marriage to artist Lincoln Townley, insists there should always be a place on TV for Loose Women, regardless of the changes. ‌ "It's the only show in the country that not only celebrates older women, but reveres and listens to older women's opinions," she says. As well as her regular Loose Women appearances, Denise has also had a number of high-profile roles on some of the country's best loved soaps, including playing Rovers' landlady Natalie Barnes in Coronation Street in more than 480 episodes between 1997 and 2000. ‌ She's also known for her part as teacher Steph Haydock in the BBC's Waterloo Road, and more recently, Trish Minniver in Hollyoaks. Denise puts part of her success down not only to giving up alcohol 13 years ago - but the fact her heart lies in acting, especially in the theatre. 'I'm proud of some of the things I've done as an actress. It might sound big-headed, but it's the one thing I say I'm f*****g good at. 'And I'm going to concentrate on reminding everybody of that!'
