Readers say spitting men can jog on along with racists and dogs on trains
I was disgusted to read Alice Giddings' investigation into how she was among thousands of women spat at by men while out jogging (Metro, Wed). The feature was part of Metro's This Is Not Right campaign to highlight the epidemic of violence against women and girls.
In the same edition, you reported on Mark Keel, 33, who murdered his partner Maxine Clark after subjecting her and previous partners to mental and physical abuse.
I am angered and saddened at these cowardly acts. I can only say that I am glad my time is running out as this is not the world I was raised in. Brian, Edinburgh
I want to apologise to the guy on the train from Waterloo to Hastings at 9pm on Wednesday. The racist young guy shouting at you, telling you, 'When we get in, we're gonna get rid of you,' shouting about Reform and immigration, does not represent the views of most of us who had to witness that.
You did really well to keep calm. Thank you to the conductor who acted quickly, too. Mike, Tunbridge Wells
To the two guys on the Victoria line travelling north at Stockwell on Monday shortly after midday, who took up three seats because they sat a dog between them.
You both knew this was unhygienic and prevented other people from having a seat.
You both kept looking over at me because I had my transport uniform on. Please be aware that you are not the only ones who use the Tube. Noel, South London
As a regular commuter on the railway from Hampshire to Waterloo, I for one am pleased my line has now been renationalised.
But I do wish the staff would stop referring to the previous company name of South Western Railway! Not only is it free advertising for the former company of MTR and FirstGroup but it has the stigma of an atrocious service.
Please, get the new livery, logos and name of Great British Railways out there as soon as possible. Fred, Hampshire
UK governments go on about saving the environment. Well, here is a simple start. Cats kill 55million birds in the UK plus 220million small mammals every year.
Introduce a tax of £300 a year for each cat and watch the numbers tumble. As an aside, it's one of the great mysteries of life but why do cats never mess in their own gardens? Clark Cross, Linlithgow
Helen Shaw (MetroTalk, Wed) says it's 'insane' for politicians of different parties to want to limit the number of foreign students in the UK because universities can only survive through their higher fees. The problem is not that we have too few international students but that we educate too few British students here.
Sensible countries such as Germany do not impose exorbitant tuition fees on home students. More Trending
The answer is not to continue forcing our universities to be profit-making – an approach that is failing. We must invest in them as vital parts of our industrial infrastructure, working to develop Britain as an advanced industrial-knowledge economy. Will Podmore, London

Nigel Farage is the Pied Piper of politics with a dash of 'dodgy estate agent'. He'll say and do anything to get your attention and lead you astray.
But when you take a look at his smoke-and-mirrors policies, he's more Liz Truss 0.2 than the second coming… and look where that got us. Guy Wilkins, London
I told my doctor I couldn't stop stealing things. He said, 'Take these pills for a week and if they don't work, can you get me a 42in flatscreen TV?' Jeff, Nuneaton

White Widow: NI-born terror suspect ‘becomes mum-of-six in polyamorous marriage with Islamic militant warlord'
Now believed to be in a polygamous marriage with Islamist commander Osman Abdullahi Dhaga'ade and his two other spouses, the Banbridge-born woman has reportedly given birth to two additional children, while evading capture as one of the world's most sought-after terror suspects. The 41-year-old was previously married to 7/7 London bomber Germaine Lindsay – who blew himself up on a London Underground train in July 2005 – and is thought to have had four children from two earlier marriages linked to extremist circles. Lewthwaite is accused of being involved in numerous terror attacks in Kenya, where she lived for a time after leaving the UK, and has been linked to as many as 400 deaths, also appearing on Interpol's 'most wanted' list. Sources reportedly told MailOnline the fugitive was last seen on July 8 in the southern city of Jilib – the de facto capital of the Islamic Emirate of Somalia, controlled by al-Shabaab. It's claimed Lewthwaite had also been spotted recently in other areas in the south with the family regularly switching locations for security reasons while protected by an elite squad of heavily armed bodyguards. Somali intelligence allegedly revealed that 'in 2023, she tried to leave Somalia to go to Yemen or Kenya, but al-Shabaab failed to find her a safe route, so had to stay in Somalia'. "The British woman helps recruit foreign fighters, especially women. She gets protection from her husband as he is high up in al-Shabaab. She speaks Somali and Arabic.' An al-Shabaab source said Lewthwaite was 'highly regarded and respected' within the terror group. He also told MailOnline: 'She lives in several houses located in different areas. She does not move during the day but only at night and is highly protected by heavily armed elite Amniyat close protection security guards, which also includes women guards. 'The white woman also always carries a pistol and sometimes a rifle for her protection. ''She does not stay in one location for long with her husband; they move around a lot." Lewthwaite was born and spent much of her childhood in Banbridge, before moving to Aylesbury and later converting to Islam. In Kenya, she is alleged to have posed as a Northern Irish charity worker to conceal her identity. She was reportedly using Italian documents and claimed she was working for a charity called Friends of Africa, based in Newry. The charity confirmed it had no knowledge of such a person. Her story is now being turned to film, with Lewthwaite set to be portrayed by Game of Thrones and The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey.

Newport thug pleads guilty to flashing and assaulting PCs
Thug Wesley Davies, 34, from Newport, who has 83 previous convictions for 164 offences, committed the offences after being released from prison for a serious assault. He was jailed for 13 months in May last year for splitting a nurse's head wide open with a single punch. Davies' latest offences were committed on July 11 and July 12 in Newport and Cwmbran. He admitted assaulting a police officer, exposure, assault by beating and damaging a Gwent Police vehicle. The defendant was remanded in custody at Newport Magistrates' Court and is due to be sentenced on July 30. Davies was locked up last year for attacking Kevin Randall. The victim had been out with family and friends watching the British and Irish Lions rugby Test match against South Africa. He punched the consultant emergency nurse outside the Esso petrol station on Cardiff's Newport Road at around 9pm on Saturday, July 31, 2021. An argument had broken out between the strangers after the groups Mr Randall and Davies were with had rowed over a taxi. Matthew Comer, prosecuting, said: 'The victim's head hit the floor and he was knocked unconscious.' CCTV footage capturing the assault was played to the judge, Recorder David Warner. He said to Davies: 'You joined in and took up a provocative position before I accept returning to the taxi. 'There's then a further exchange of words, we can see that between the female members of your group, and then you got back out of the taxi, went straight up to Mr Randall and punched him. 'You punched him so hard that he fell unconscious on the floor with the back of his head split wide open. 'The offence to which you have pleaded guilty is a cowardly and unpleasant one with significant consequences for your victim.' Mr Randall was taken to the University of Wales Hospital, Cardiff in an ambulance and 21 surgical staples were needed to close the deep wound. In a victim personal statement he revealed how he suffers from ongoing 'memory loss and psychological harm'. He was off work for four weeks as a result of his injury and had to miss a family holiday. 'I'm aware that the attack that night could easily have killed me,' Mr Randall said. Davies pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm. Assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of a machete in public are among his previous convictions. Joshua Scouller said in mitigation: 'He regrets enormously the injury that he caused. 'The defendant is a man who has had problems with alcohol and has sought to become sober.' His barrister added that the lengthy delay in the case coming to court was not the fault of his client and the prosecution could offer no explanation for the slow progress.

A young girl was found dead on a beach near the Greek capital of Athens early on Sunday - and authorities are now carrying out investigations to determine what happened to her. A toddler has tragically been found dead on a popular tourist beach in Greece by a horrified passerby. The child, believed to be around two or three years old, was discovered on Eden Beach in Paleo Faliro, near Athens, in the early hours of July 27. Local reports say a man, from Egypt, spotted the girl's body on the shore and called the emergency services. Authorities rushed to the scene, where they located the child, who hasn't been identified so far. Her body was transported to the Agia Sofia Children's Hospital via ambulance, where doctors pronounced her dead. An autopsy will be carried out to determine the girl's cause of death, authorities have said. Greek newspaper Protothema reported that the child was wearing a full-zip bathing suit and was not wearing armbands when she was found. The publication added that there were no obvious signs of abuse on the girl. No child matching her characteristics has been reported missing in the area. Last week, a British tourist was tragically found dead on his sun lounger on a popular Greek beach after reportedly becoming unwell. The 74-year-old was discovered unconscious on Stalis Beach on the isle of Crete by other people at the resort at around 12pm on Sunday, July 20. It is understood that he had first gone for a swim before returning to the sun lounger and there are reports he had a "strong feeling" of sickness shortly before his death.
