Optus Sport customers to receive discounts after transfer of Premier League broadcast rights to Stan

Existing Optus Sport customers are set to receive discounted pricing to watch the English Premier League after the transfer of broadcast rights to Stan.
Nine's Stan Sport streaming service will begin airing the football content from August 1, the date when Optus Sport shuts down, ending a nine-year run. The new Premier League season kicks off on August 16.
It is yet to be determined whether any football content will be broadcast on Nine's free to air channels at this stage.
Stan is paying Optus Sport an up-front fee of $20 million and making a contribution toward the first payment for the next Premier League rights cycles.
The agreement also includes the rights to FA Cup games, Japan's J.League and the US National Women's Soccer League.
"The Premier League is the most-watched football league on the planet, and alongside the FA Cup, this acquisition reinforces Nine's position as the home of sport in Australia," Nine CEO Matt Stanton said in a statement.
"We are proud to deliver these iconic competitions to Australian audiences through Stan Sport."
Under the agreement, Optus Sport customers who remain Optus telecommunications customers will be provided discounted pricing from Stan. Existing customers will receive detailed information and special offers in coming days to ensure the transition to Stan is as simple as possible.
Optus CEO Stephen Rue said the decision to transfer the Premier League broadcast rights comes as the company shifts its focus to Optus's core operations in telecommunications, its commitment to customers, and unlocking further value for the business in its future.
"Optus Sport has delivered outstanding sports broadcasting to Australian football lovers for almost a decade," Rue said in a statement.
"One of our key priorities was to find a home for Optus Sport content which would take the game forward and enable all Optus Sport subscribers to continue to receive uninterrupted access to all their favourite football action.
"Optus Sport customers and the game of football will be in great hands at Stan, and we know the game will receive the broadcasting priority it deserves from an organisation whose speciality is delivering quality sports programming to its customers."
Existing Optus Sport customers will still be able access the broadcast of the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 tournament, which commences on July 3.

Former NRL star Kevin Proctor breaks silence after sickening KO by social media influencer at RUNIT event in Dubai

Former NRL star Kevin Proctor has no regrets about taking part in RUNIT 02 in Dubai over the weekend, despite suffering a shocking knockout that has gone viral on social media. The 282 NRL game second rower came off second best after getting his head in the wrong position in an exhibition run it straight contest against former lower grade footy player turned social media influencer Jordan Simi. Footage of the hit showed the former Kiwis forward face-plant onto the astroturf with his arms and legs stiffening as medical personnel rush to him. Proctor was cleared by a doctor the morning after the event and is flying back to Australia. In his first comments since the event, Proctor thanked RUNIT organisers and admitted he got the hit wrong. 'Just want to say thank you to everyone that has messaged me to ask if I was alright,' Proctor wrote on Instagram before flying back to Australia. 'I'm all good. 'We all know what we sign up for getting in there. 'It's a contact sport and unfortunately I put my head in the wrong place and came out second best. 'Ya win some ya lose some ... but no hard feelings. Hats off to the bro. It is what it is. 'I got in there had a crack at least. 'I like to thank @ for having me! Still grateful to be apart of it and im sure you guys are only going to get bigger n bigger. 'Congrats to all the winners and organisation for putting on a great event. 'On my way back home now to see my darling, kids and family ... thanks again to everyone for the support.' Simi – Proctor's opponent in the exhibition run it straight challenge – is sitting beside him in the Instagram post, and commented: 'Don't do that again yeahhhh. Got me in trouble with your mumsy. Love brother.' The Dubai event was the third high profile competition RUNIT has staged after similar contests in Melbourne and Auckland in May. The event had a massive prize pool, with first place leaving with $200,000, second place pocketing $50,000 and third place walking away with $25,000. A social media sensation, RUNIT has gone viral with clips of big hits and thunderous collisions spreading like wildfire on Instagram and TikTok. It has attracted a huge amount of criticism as well though, with dozens of CTE experts slamming it. Meanwhile the Warriors, New Zealadn Rugby League, Rugby Australia and the Melbourne Storm hav moved to distance themselves from the craze.

Aussies have been left surprised after a groundskeeper revealed his yearly salary

Aussies have been left surprised after a groundskeeper revealed his yearly salary. Get-ahead, an app that matches job seekers with employers, has a series on TikTok where they stop ordinary Aussies on the street and ask them about their salaries. A young man in a puffer jacket has sparked an outcry after he revealed he was earning far less than the national average. 'I'm a groundskeeper, and I make about $50,000 a year,' he said. According to figures from the Australian Bureau of Statics, the average yearly salary in late 2024 was a staggering $103,812. The full-time adult's weekly total earnings are $1996.40. The average, or mean, salary is calculated by dividing total earnings by the total number of people (or employees). The median is another commonly used calculation method, which provides the 'middle' earnings figure, where half of people earn more than the median earnings value and half earn less than the median earnings value The young groundskeeper explained that he got his job because he was a member of the golf club, and then asked if they needed any help. 'I start at 5am every morning. I don't work Wednesdays, I work Saturdays instead, and we finish about 2pm every day,' he said. He revealed that one of the perks of the job is that he gets a discounted membership and he enjoys being part of a community. 'Yeah I know pretty much about everyone, which is good,' he said. The young worker said it has been a hard slog at the moment because weather conditions so dictate his work. 'We've had a lot of rain over the last six months. So it has been pretty hard,' he said. The young Aussie also revealed that 'everything is much pretty much learned on the job' with groundskeeping. Online Aussies weighed in. '50k is outrageous,' one claimed. 'Why? Not everyone should be earning a zillion dollars a year,' someone else argued. 'That doesn't even cover me eating out 7 days a week,' one joked. 'At least the man is working,' another argued. The groundskeeper's salary reveal comes after an apprentice electicans shocked Aussies by revealing her staggering wage. 'I make probably about $100,000 a year at the moment,' she said. The young woman said she was only in her second year of apprenticeship but was working shifts to earn that much money. 'We do a rotating roster, so like, two weeks of day shifts, a week of night shifts, and the night shifts are where you make a lot of money,' she said. Aussies were shocked to discover that someone still learning a trade could earn such a substantial amount. 'No way! 2nd year on $100k. I call BS,' one said. But another replied and argued that she's doing 'night shift and roster work', so they didn't doubt she'd be making six figures. Someone else who claimed they had 30 years of experience said they were stunned to learn they earned around the same as a second-year apprentice. 'That's nuts,' the tradie wrote. 'I'm in my second year and get $39,000,' another said.

‘Didn't need fireworks': ASX jumps during Monday's trading

The Australian sharemarket continued its run higher during Monday's trading and has now had its best financial year in the last four. The benchmark ASX 200 index gained 28.10 points or 0.33 per cent to finish Monday's trading at 8,542.30. The broader All Ordinaries also closed higher up 29.40 points or 0.34 per cent to 8,773.00. The Australian dollar also reached its highest point against the US dollar since November 2024, although this was largely due to the US dollar selling off. Australia's dollar is now buying 65.36 US cents. On an overall strong day ten of the 11 sectors finished in the green, with just the materials sector being a drag on the market. Monday's gains helped the ASX gain more than 10 per cent for the financial year, for the best 12-months since 2021. The gains were led by the healthcare sector with CSL jumping 2.19 per cent to $239.48, while Sigma Healthcare rose 1.36 per cent to $2.99 and Pro Medicus finished in the green up 1.60 per cent to $285.08. The consumer discretionary stocks also helped drag the index higher with Wesfarmers up 0.74 per cent to $84.75, while JB Hi FI gained 1.61 per cent to $110.35 and The Lottery Corporation gained 0.76 per cent to $5.27. Despite a lift in iron ore prices on Friday, the big miners struggled again on Monday. BHP slumped 2.08 per cent to $36.75, while Rio Tinto slumped 1.69 per cent to $107.13 and Fortescue dropped 1.16 per cent to $15.28. IG market analyst Tony Sycamore said today's end of financial year trading did not finish with the usual bang of previous years. 'It certainly wasn't a traditional whiz bang fireworks to end the financial year, ' Mr Sycamore told Newswire. 'Given the fact the market was sitting near record highs the market didn't need to get an extra little shove into the sign-off'. Mr Sycamore said usually the end of the financial year comes with a lot of 'window dressing' to close out the year. 'It has had a pretty impressive recovery from its April lows and I think for that reason there was a willingness from participants to sit back and let it do its thing.' In company news embattled casino Star Entertainment Group told the market on Monday its joint venture partnership in the mammoth Queen's Wharf precinct had walked away from an agreement struck in March to take over Star's stake in the complex. Shares slumped 6.9 per cent to $0.14 in the back of this announcement. Shares in James Hardie soared 7.1 per cent to $41.70 after the business shifted its primary listing to the New York Stock Exchange. Defence company DroneShield slumped 4.209 points to $2.28 despite the business announcing a new $9.7m contract with an unnamed defence customer in Latin America.
