Filipe Luis: Bayern are a European colossus
'Bayern are part of the elite, a giant, a European colossus,' said the 39-year-old, who took over at the helm of the Brazilian giants in 2024.
'They're dominant and have an extraordinary squad, with an excellent coach. They're a club that inspires us and gives us ideas to copy, but in a game, anything can happen.'

'I haven't decided anything yet about the lineup and match plan. I'll study them first before deciding.'
Flamengo topped Group D following their 1-1 draw against LAFC, and they played their part in one of the biggest moments of the tournament so far as they beat Chelsea 3-1 in Philadelphia.
Bayern secured their passage into the knockout stages with ease, however missed out on top spot following yesterday's 1-0 loss against Benfica.
Speaking ahead of the Bayern fixture, Luis was keen to outline how important his side's identity is: 'Flamengo's DNA requires you try to take the ball away from the opponent, try to press, control the game and be as vertical as possible.'

He wasn't shy to admit that they won't divert away from this against Bayern: 'That is what we will try to do. We know their quality and the way they play. They will try to impose their rhythm, and we will try to do the same. In the end, may the best team win.'
Experienced defender Alex Sandro, once of Juventus, also gave his thoughts on the clash: 'We know how strong Bayern are, the players they have,' said Sandro.
'Our game plan doesn't change. Obviously, each game has its own story. For me, playing against Bayern has always been great, because I love playing against big teams. It's a great chance to see the level we are at today. The level will increase 100%, whether it's on their part or ours.'
Bayern's encounter with the Brazilian top club will take place on Sunday, June 19th, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Messi moment never came for outmanned Inter Miami against Paris Saint-Germain
ATLANTA — What we thought would happen between Inter Miami and Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup did happen. The upstart Major League Soccer club looked every bit the part against the reigning European (and world) even Lionel Messi, the greatest to ever play, could help David in this matchup against Goliath. Once upon a time, Messi was bigger than Goliath. He may still be on his best day. Just not on this day, in his first match as a 38-year-old. Paris Saint-Germain 4, Inter Miami 0 on Sunday, June 29, in front of 65,574 fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. PSG's João Neves scored twice (6' and 39'), Inter Miami's Tomás Avilés was credited with an own goal (44') and Achraf Hakimi put the game away before the halftime whistle (45'+3') to eliminate Inter Miami from the round of 16 at the Club World Cup. Messi is still the biggest star in the world, even in the twilight of his career. The fans packed the stadium with excitement to see him. They wore Inter Miami jerseys, Argentina jerseys and Messi's Paris Saint-Germain fans cheered every moment he touched the ball, patiently waiting for him to deliver the majestic Messi moment he has countless times in his legendary career. Messi nearly delivered several times, including a free-kick opportunity in the 88th minute with all eyes and cell phone cameras on him. Sadly, he kicked it into a wall of PSG players. Messi kept his emotions in check, but you could see his helplessness every time he looked down after looking up at the scoreboard. Still, he didn't stop pushing the envelope. Chants of "Messi, Messi" rang loudly in the 63rd minute, and he nearly answered the call – sprinting his way toward a shot from his left boot that skid right into the PSG goalkeeper's hands. He nearly delivered a header inside the box in the 80th minute, into the goalkeeper's hands Messi moment never came. PSG is clearly the world champion for a reason, while Inter Miami is a club whose youth is too inexperienced, and its aging stars on the other side of their primes. PSG players showed a mastery of being able to get the ball from midfield into the goal area with ease, while Inter Miami players were often turned around trying to catch up. The crowd nearly exploded when Messi lofted a pass right at the feet of Luis Suarez early in the second half. The 38-year-old Uruguayan legend whiffed on his opportunity to strike and bowed his head in disappointment. Sergio Busquets is one of the best midfielders to ever play the sport. His dribbling is one of his best skills. But he was mugged by PSG's Fabián Ruiz just outside the goal area midway in the first half. PSG started a three-man weave that would make Phil Jackson and Gregg Popovich proud: Bradley Barcola pounced on the steal, dropped it off to Ruiz, and he found Neves with their third pass in the goal area, and PSG's second goal of the match in the 39th minute. Even Messi was a step slow on a give-and-go with Marcelo Weigandt early in the second half. Inter Miami earned at least $21 million for participating, winning a match with two draws in the group stage, and advancing to the Round of 16. They carried the torch for the three MLS teams in the tournament. They pulled off North America's first win against a club from Europe when they beat FC Porto from Portugal behind an epic free kick goal from Messi just 10 days were outclassed and outmatched 10 days later. But this was expected.

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami exit Club World Cup after 4-0 loss to PSG in round of 16
Associated Press ATLANTA (AP) — The champions of Europe booted Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami teammates out of the Club World Cup on Sunday. Paris Saint-Germain, Messi's former club and the team that won the Champions League final only a few weeks ago, contained one of the game's greatest players at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and routed Inter Miami 4-0 in the round of 16. Defensive struggles again plagued Miami with all four of PSG's goals coming before halftime. An early injury to defender Noah Allen contributed to then team's problems, while goalkeeper Oscar Ustari continued to excel. Offensively, Messi and his forward line spent the majority of the first half in their own half. The second-half performance improved, but the team appeared to be overly reliant on a moment of Messi magic to help them advance. Inter Miami was the only Major League Soccer team to advance to the expanded tournament's knockout round. The team defied expectations with a 2-1 victory over Portuguese club FC Porto, which was heavily favored going into the match. That performance caught the attention of soccer fans around the world as Miami became the first MLS team to beat a European club in an official competition. Messi exits the tournament with a perfect record of group stage advancement. The Argentine has never been eliminated in the group stage of an official tournament, whether playing for a club or his Argentina national team. Despite Sunday's loss, Miami's tournament play showed many positives as the team prepares to return to its MLS schedule. Besides the win over Porto, Miami also drew with Brazilian club Palmeiras, a team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition on Saturday. Miami is in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with an 8-3-5 record, 11 points behind first-place Philadelphia Union. Last season, Miami won the MLS Supporters' Shield for the league's best regular-season record. ___ AP soccer: recommended in this topic

Neves scores twice and Paris Saint-Germain routs Messi's Inter Miami 4-0 at Club World Cup
ATLANTA (AP) — João Neves scored a pair of goals for Paris Saint-Germain and the world's best team overwhelmed one of the game's greatest players, embarrassing Lionel Messi and Inter Miami 4-0 in the round of 16 at the Club World Cup on Sunday. With Messi facing the team where he spent two seasons before moving to Major League Soccer in the twilight of his stellar career, the European champions quickly erased the Herons' hopes of pulling off a monumental upset before a crowd of 65,574 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Neves scored his first goal just six minutes into the match, converting a header at the back post off a free kick. The Portuguese midfielder added another in the 39th minute before Inter Miami totally fell apart in the closing stages of the first half, surrendering an own-goal and then watching helplessly as Achraf Hakimi tacked on another in stoppage time to send PSG to the locker room with a four-goal cushion. It was reminiscent of PSG's historic 5-0 rout of Inter Milan a month ago in the Champions League final, when the Paris club won its first European title and established itself as the clear favorite heading into the expanded Club World Cup. The pink-clad fans tried to stir No. 10 with occasional chants of 'Messi! Messi! Messi!' but it did little good. The Argentine star spent most of the first half just lingering in the midfield, surrounded by PSG players and barely getting a chance to touch the ball. Inter Miami's best chance came early in the second half. A pass to Luis Suárez sent him clear at the side of the net, but the ball slid harmlessly off his foot without a shot. The 38-year-old striker kicked a water bottle over the barrier in frustration, summing up the day for the Herons. Messi finally connected with Inter Miami's first shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but it was easily scooped up by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Messi had another chance on a header with about 10 minutes remaining, forcing Donnarumma to make a diving save in the only real threat to his third shutout of the tournament. PSG advanced to a quarterfinal match next Saturday, also in Atlanta, against either Flamengo or Bayern Munich. Key moment The European powerhouses came into this tournament showing little enthusiasm for the added workload at the end of a grueling season. But, right from the opening kick, PSG played like a team that appears intent on capping its already brilliant campaign with a Club World Cup title. Takeaways Even with aging international stars such as Messi and Suarez, the MLS club wasn't in the same league with the European champs. PSG held 73% possession in the first half and outshot the Herons 10-0, including six attempts on goal. ___
