Bloomberg Surveillance: Equity Rally Persists

Watch Tom and Paul LIVE every day on YouTube: http://bit.ly/3vTiACF. Bloomberg Surveillance hosted by Tom Keene & Paul Sweeney July 11th, 2025 Featuring: 1) John Stoltzfus, Chief Investment Strategist at Oppenheimer & Co., joins for an extended discussion on the sustainability of the equity rally and his S&P target as he remains one of Wall Street's leading bulls. Investor appetite for equities remain strong, driven by confidence in the US economy's resilience and optimism ahead of earnings season, according to the text, with David Chao, a global market strategist at Invesco Asset Management, saying investors are having a 'tariff fatigue'. 2) Michael Widmer, Head: Metals Research at Bank of America, joins to talk about President Trump's copper tariffs and how it's reshaping copper and other metals markets. President Trump's plans to impose import tariffs on copper imports are set to include materials used for power grids, the military and data centers. Plans involve including semi-finished products, according to people familiar with the matter, which would include wires, sheets, tubes and plates. 3) Jurrien Timmer, Director: Global Macro Fidelity Management & Research, joins to discuss the "V-Shaped Rocket Ship." Despite yesterday's record finish for equities, strategists are sounding warnings about the impact of uncertain tariff policy on stocks, saying it could reduce the chances of a September rate cut and increase the chances of an economic slowdown. 4) Ellen Wald, Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, talks about Saudi Arabia raising oil prices more than expected and global oil demand. Saudi Arabia has raised prices for its main crude grade for Asian buyers in August by $1 to $2.20 a barrel more than the regional benchmark, exceeding expectations. The price increase comes as OPEC+ agrees to raise production by 548,000 barrels a day in August, which may contribute to a crude surplus later this year. Despite strong summer demand, traders expect the market to soften later this year as consumption wanes and OPEC+ increases contribute to a surplus of crude in storage. 5) Cam Dawson, CIO at NewEdge Wealth, talks about why she's dubbing the current equity rally as the "Honey Badger" market. US equities closed at a new all-time high on Thursday as investors parsed tariff headlines and looked ahead to corporate results.

The EU is delaying retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods, in hopes of reaching a deal by Aug. 1

BRUSSELS (AP) — The EU will suspend retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods scheduled to take effect Monday in hopes of reaching a trade deal with the Trump administration by the end of the month. ″This is now the time for negotiations,″ European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told reporters in Brussels on Sunday, after President Donald Trump sent a letter announcing new tariffs of 30% on goods from the EU and Mexico starting Aug. 1. The EU — America's biggest trading partner and the world's largest trading bloc — had been scheduled to impose ″countermeasures″ starting Monday at midnight Brussels time (6 p.m. EDT). The EU negotiates trade deals on behalf of its 27 member countries. Von der Leyen said those countermeasures would be delayed until Aug. 1, and that Trump's letter shows ″that we have until the first of August″ to negotiate. European leaders have urged Trump and von der Leyen to give negotiations more time. ″We have always been clear that we prefer a negotiated solution,″ she said. If they can't reach a deal, she said that ″we will continue to prepare countermeasures so we are fully prepared.″ Standing alongside Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, von der Leyen said the trade tensions with the U.S. show the importance of ''diversifying our trade relationships.'' Trump has said his global tariffs would set the foundation for reviving a U.S. economy that he claims has been ripped off by other nations for decades. Trump in his letter to the European Union said the U.S. trade deficit was a national security threat. U.S. trade partners have faced months of uncertainty and on-and-off threats from Trump to impose tariffs, with deadlines sometimes extended or changed. The tariffs could have ramifications for nearly every aspect of the global economy. The value of EU-U.S. trade in goods and services amounted to 1.7 trillion euros ($2 trillion) in 2024, or an average of 4.6 billion euros a day, according to EU statistics agency Eurostat. Europe's biggest exports to the U.S. were pharmaceuticals, cars, aircraft, chemicals, medical instruments and wine and spirits. Trade ministers from EU countries are scheduled to meet Monday to discuss trade relations with the U.S., as well as with China.

Nvidia Stock Is Way Cheaper Than You Think. Here's 1 Reason Why.

Nvidia's profits will grow for years to come. Factoring this growth into Nvidia's forward price-to-earnings multiple makes this stock look very cheap. 10 stocks we like better than Nvidia › Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) is one of the hottest stocks on the market today. Over the past five years, Nvidia shares have soared in value by nearly 1,500%, including another 20% in the last 12 months. Think the run is over? Think again. Nvidia stock remains far cheaper than most investors realize due to one critical factor. The artificial intelligence (AI) revolution is in full swing. But we're still in the early innings. In 2023, the United Nations estimated the global artificial intelligence market to be worth roughly $190 billion. By 2033, the organization believes the AI market's value will soar to nearly $5 trillion. That's a compound annual growth rate of more than 30%. Thus far, Nvidia's growth rates have exceeded the AI market's growth rate. Last year, Nvidia's sales more than doubled. This year, analysts expect sales to jump again by more than 50%. Why is Nvidia growing faster than the market overall? Because it rapidly gained market share due to its superior hardware and software offerings. Right now, Nvidia is estimated to have more than 90% of the AI GPU market. Its new Blackwell chips were at one time sold out for more than 12 months. Essentially every cloud computing infrastructure business on the planet is racing to buy more Nvidia products. Nvidia's CUDA developer platform, meanwhile, keeps customers locked in to its hardware and software ecosystem. In summary, through early investment, Nvidia has the best AI GPUs on the market from a performance standpoint. Its software integration, meanwhile, ensures developers are locked in to their products for the long haul. All of this has allowed Nvidia to post an industry-leading gross margin -- more than double that of competitors like Intel. While competition will emerge, Nvidia has gained a critical capital and reputational advantage -- an advantage that should persist for years to come, allowing it to charge more for its products than the competition. Trading at 27 times sales, Nvidia stock looks incredibly pricey for a $4 trillion business. On an earnings basis, shares trade at 53 times trailing earnings. Again, this looks expensive at first glance. But sales have a strong potential to grow by more than 30% per year for a decade or more. And given Nvidia's competitive advantages, profits should closely track this growth, even if margins do compress somewhat due to rising competition. On a forward earnings basis -- that is, based on what analysts expect Nvidia to earn next year -- shares trade at just 38 times 2026 earnings. That's already a much more palatable valuation. Add another two years of 30% profit growth and shares suddenly trade at just 22 times 2028 earnings. And remember, Nvidia could continue to grow at this rate through 2033 and beyond. So yes, Nvidia stock is expensive up front. But for long-term investors willing to spread that upfront premium over a long holding period, shares are surprisingly cheap. But only if you're willing to stay patient for years, or even decades at a time.
