Papon thrilled to see K-pop fan daughter humming ghazals at his concert: 'This is the power of music'

Hindustan Times27-06-2025
Last Saturday, to observe World Music Day, singer Papon enthralled audiences in Mumbai with a special performance, interspersing his Bollywood melodies with soulful ghazals. The Shaam-e-Mehfil saw the singer take the stage for a two-hour-long concert filled with the best of Jagjit Singh, Ghulam Ali, and Farida Khanum, among others. During the concert, the singer also had a personal anecdote to share with the audience. Papon performs on the World Music Day 2025.
The Shaam-e-Mehfil, organised by Sachi Entertainment, was held on Saturday evening at Mumbai's Shanmukhananda Hall, and saw Papon reel off several popular ghazals, starting with Jagjit Singh's Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho. At the end of the ghazal, he held the mic towards the audience, asking them to join along. As the 'jugalbandi' ended, Papon quipped, 'I saw my daughter sitting and singing. She doesn't like ghazals. Korean-vorean sunti hai (She listens to KPop). But even she was singing along. This is the power of music.' Papon on stage at the Shaam-e-Mehfil in Mumbai.
Papon then performed several iconic ghazals over the next two hours, sharing stories about them and including some of his own Shayari. For the Bollywood fans present, he sang a few of his popular filmy numbers as well, ranging from Kyon to Moh Moh Ke Dhaage and Jeeyein Kyun. A musical medley with the audience
The performance came to a close with a special rendition of Farida Khanum's Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo, in which he had the audience join along as well. But before that, the singer did something special with the 1,000-odd listeners in the auditorium. As the auditorium was illuminated by cell phone flashlights, he indulged in a jugalbandi with the audience. Papon had the audience sing along, hum along, and croon along in a soulful medley sans lyrics.

Saiyaara is second to Pathaan at the UK box office in 2nd weekend; Impresses with USD 9 million overseas in 10 days

The Mohit Suri directed Saiyaara has a fantastic second weekend at the overseas box office, collecting USD 3.80 million (Rs. 33 crore) approx. This marks a 95 per cent increase over its opening weekend, pushing its total gross to USD 8.90 million (Rs. 77 crore). The YRF musical led by Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda is fast approaching the Rs. 400 crore mark globally, with its worldwide box office tally at Rs. 373 crore at the end of 10th day. Saiyaara has so far impressed with its opening and also then trajectory. It will cruise past the USD 10 million mark in all probability on Tuesday. It is well placed to surpass USD 15 million, it could even go over USD 20 million, subject to how it sustains in coming weeks, first indication of which should come with the Monday hold. The United Kingdom has emerged as the best performer for the film. The second weekend amounted to over GBP 500K, second only to Pathaan. Yesterday, the UK almost overtook the United States as the top collecting territory, which is something that never happens nowadays. Once upon a time, the UK was the biggest overseas territory for Bollywood, but that was a long time ago. The market down-spiralled in between, but has made a comeback recently. The UK tends to have the best legs for Bollywood films among overseas territories. So, even though it trails behind the US and UAE in the total gross, by the end of the run, it could emerge on top, which will be an amazing feat. Saiyaara is a big blockbuster, and proves that love stories have an audience base even today if made with heart and honesty. The film also brings to the forefront the importance of music in the film fraternity, as the songs have been driving factors for its theatrical success. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates on Saiyaara.

Saiyaara stars Ahaan Panday, Aneet Padda are ‘innocent kids', says composer Tanishk Bagchi: ‘Ahaan is humble, doesn't have tantrums or attitude'

The love for debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda starrer Saiyaara continues to grow day by day, along with its box office numbers. The Mohit Suri directorial is earning a lot of praise from the audience and film industry. Several Bollywood celebrities including, Karan Johar, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Shraddha Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, and many others, appreciated Ahaan and Aneet's performances on social media. Now, in a recent interview, composer Tanishk Bagchi, the man behind Saiyaara's popular title track, opened up about recording it with the lead stars. While talking to News18 Showsha, he revealed that both Ahaan and Aneet were present in the studio during the recording of the song. 'The first time I met Ahaan was at Yash Raj Films when we were recording the title track. He's a very humble kid. He doesn't have the tantrums or the attitude of a hero. He's also a brilliant actor. At that time, I didn't get a glimpse of his acting chops but I liked his energy and presence,' he said. 'Later when I met him and Aneet, I had told them that my intuition is telling me that this film is going to be huge. I had that hunch that they're going to become very big stars. I also told them that when you become big, don't forget where you came from. So many people see success and fame and then start flying and become very different. I've seen so many people rising and falling suddenly,' Tanishk added. He shared, 'When I watched the film, I realised that Mohit sir ne usko jaise train kiya tha, usne waise hi kaam kiya (he worked exactly the way Mohit Suri trained him). He followed his director through and through. They've that germ in them. I hope they keep their heads down and work hard. They're very lucky to have found a teacher like Mohit sir right in their first film. Maine unko yeh bhi kahan ki tum log innocent bachche ho, toh uss baat ko maintain karke rakhna (I told them to maintain their innocence).' Tanishk Bagchi also shared that there were two versions to the video of the title song of Saiyaara and Ahaan Panday was nailing both of them. 'One was the theatrical one and the other one was like a montage. Mohit sir showed me both. When I watched these videos, I felt that music perfectly baith raha hai Ahaan ke upar. It's always nice composing fresh sounds for fresh faces,' he mentioned. He compared the actor to late Rishi Kapoor for making an entire generation go gaga over his romantic hero avatar. 'I remember watching Rishi Kapoor sir. When he used to play the guitar or the piano, he would play it like he knows how to play it. That's how good his sync was. That's a skill set every actor should have. Mohit sir passed this on to Ahaan and it showed. Film mein kya attitude hai uska! I'm telling you, Ahaan is going to be our next big star,' he concluded. Produced by Aditya Chopra's Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara has now crossed the Rs 300 crore mark at the worldwide box office. The movie also features Geeta Agarwal, Rajesh Kumar, Varun Badola and Shaad Randhawa in key roles.
