Iraq, Iran advance toward resolving disputes over gas export levels
Baghdad ( – The Iranian Minister of Oil, Mohsen Paknejad, stated on Saturday Iran and Iraq are working to address conflicts over gas export levels and outstanding charges. Following a meeting with Iraqi Electricity Minister Ziyad Ali Fadel in Tehran, Paknejad stated that the two sides struck an agreement on the volume of gas shipments to Iraq. Paknejad explained that he discussed with Fadel the volumes of Iranian gas exports to Iraq and that an agreement has been reached, according to a statement released by the Iranian Oil Ministry and cited by local media. The discussions yielded constructive results both in terms of the volumes of Iran's gas exports to Iraq and the outstanding payments, according to Paknejad. Under an agreement signed between the two countries, Iran supplies Iraq with 55 million cubic meters of gas to operate power plants. Iranian gas supplies to Iraq have fallen since May, forcing several power plants in Iraq to shut down or lower operational hours, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity. Since June 2013, Iran has supplied natural gas to Iraq through contracts, notably to power plants in Baghdad and Basra.

Iraqi PM, Finance Minister sued over 2025 budget delay

Speaking to Shafaq News, Majid—who represents the Ishraqat Kanoon bloc, a six-member independent group formed after the 2019 protest movement—accused the government of breaching constitutional deadlines by 'failing' to submit the 2025 federal budget tables. He argued that the six-month postponement has weakened parliamentary oversight and disrupted core state operations, while urging the cabinet to immediately submit the full financial documents to restore legislative authority. Separately, MP Haider Muhammad al-Mutairi submitted a formal request to the Presidency of Parliament to summon Finance Minister Sami for public questioning. Baghdad ( – An Iraqi oil official moved to quell public concern on Sunday, strongly denying widespread rumors that the country has halted the production of improved-grade gasoline. Rafid Sadiq, media director for the state-run Oil Products Distribution Company, stated to a local news agency that information about a halt in production is 'completely incorrect.' He stressed that there is no final stop to this production. 'No governorate in Iraq has registered any crisis at any station regarding the availability of improved gasoline; the situation is very normal,' Sadiq affirmed, adding there is 'no crisis whatsoever in production or distribution.' The denial addresses recent rumors that production had ceased due to a halt in imports. This comes as Iraq works towards a major strategic goal of ending gasoline imports this year, a plan announced by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani in July. While new facilities like the Karbala refinery are adding significant domestic supply, the country still partially relies on imports to cover all its needs.
