Jasprit Bumrah's moment of magic uproots Gujarat Titans as Rohit Sharma props Mumbai Indians to ensure 20 runs win

Mumbai Indians hold their nerve to stop a spirited comeback from Gujarat Titans to set up Qualifier II date with Punjab Kings
Having made 228/5 on the back of Rohit Sharma's 81, if Mumbai Indians thought they had the game in their bag at the half-way stage, they got a rude awakening. In an 84-run stand off 44 balls, B Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar not only put Mumbai under pressure, but were setting up for a grand finish when Jasprit Bumrah decided to have one final say. With 78 needed off 39 with 8 wickets in hand, Bumrah came up with a yorker for the ages that took out Washington and the leg-stump as Mumbai drilled through that opening to wrap up the contest by 20 runs.
For a team that has put up the best batting show this IPL, they needed to bring out their A-game with the bat to stay alive. Chasing 229, odds were against Gujarat as Mumbai have never lost a game in 17 instances of defending a total of 200 and above. Gujarat also had to do it without Jos Buttler against an attack that includes Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah. And as has been the case throughout this season, Gujarat have found ways to score with their top-order doing the bulk of the scoring.
Since the IPL resumption, they have come across as a side struggling for momentum with the top-order unable to continue the job they began with aplomb. And after Boult took out Shubman Gill, if one thought the fizz would disappear soon, then B Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar showed Gujarat won't go away without a fight. Their 84 run partnership for the third wicket that came off just 44 deliveries left Mumbai searching for answers. At the half-way mark, the five-time champions think-tank including head coach Mahela Jayawardene, Kieron Pollard, Lasith Malinga, were all lined-up beside the boundary hoardings making animated gestures as all their well-laid plans were being dismantled in the most textbook way by Sai Sudharsan and Washington.
Two moments of brilliance ⚡️
Were these two the defining moments of the #Eliminator? 🤔

After the early loss of Gill, it was Sudharsan who brought Gujarat back with an effortless six off Boult before unleashing shots either side of square that sped to the boundary on an outfield that was soaked in dew. And before Washington joined the southpaw, Kusal Mendis, replacing Buttler, played a cameo of 20 as Gujarat once again got the start they needed.
From there on till Bumrah produced a moment of brilliance in the fourth ball of the 14th over, it was all about Sai Sudharsan and Washington as none from the Mumbai attack was spared. Bumrah was whipped and pulled for boundaries by Sudharsan while Washington pulled and swat Boult for a couple of sixes. In between those, the two left-handers played with the field, picking gaps with perfection to ensure the asking rate stayed in control as at the end of the 13th over, Gujarat were ahead of Mumbai.
That's when Bumrah produced the ball of the match. With the game in balance, he went back to his armoury, picked up the most lethal yorker he had in his shelf and executed it with precision that Washington missed it totally and tumbled flat on the turf. That gave Mumbai the opening before Richard Gleeson removed Sai Sudharsan two overs later. And from there on, Gujarat lost their way to fall short by 20 runs.
This has been a season where Rohit Sharma has started slowly before finding his groove. His knock on Friday mirrored the trend, where after being given two lives – by Gerald Coetzee and Kusal Mendis – early on before he crossed 13, Rohit exploded to take the game away from Gujarat in no time. But before he began his fireworks, all the early damage was done by Jonny Bairstow – the replacement player for the in-form Ryan Rickelton.
Having joined the team after the IPL resumed, Bairstow didn't show any signs of rustiness and instead hit the accelerator straightaway, taking on this season's stand-out pacer Prasidh Krishna. But the real change of momentum shifting completely towards Mumbai came in the fourth over where Bairstow heaved Prasidh for two sixes and two boundaries as the seaming deck that Royal Challengers Bengaluru enjoyed in the Qualifier was nowhere to be seen.

Even as Rohit was getting his eye in, Bairstow was in his elements as his free-flowing batting was to the forefront here with horizontal bat shots being the stand-out. His 22-ball stay, where he scored 47 runs with 4 boundaries and 3 sixes provided the impact that Mumbai needed.
Bairstow's explosive start meant, Rohit was able to pace his innings, but wasn't going to be overtly cautious. At 19 off 15 deliveries, the arrival of R Sai Kishore in the last over of the powerplay is when Rohit began to open up, with his signature sweep sending the ball soaring over deep square-leg. Two more boundaries in that over, both via sweeps meant Mumbai had 79 in the powerplay – their highest this season and by the time Bairstow departed, Rohit was now orchestrating the innings.
Having slipped in a quiet first over for a change, where he conceded just two runs, Rashid Khan would have thought this was his night as he had taken just 9 wickets in 15 innings at an average of 57.11 and at a worrying economy rate of 9.34. But his form showed no signs of changing as Rohit once again relied on his sweep and inside-out shots to neutralize the Afghan. With his being a huge outfield, Rohit had only four sixes to show in his knock of 81, the 9 boundaries, though were a testament to his ability to pick the gaps to perfection.
Rohit's assuring innings meant, Suryakumar Yadav arrived and went back with a breezy cameo of 33 off 20 before Tilak Varma (25 off 11) and Hardik Pandya (22 off 9) gave the finishing touches. Having put a commendable show before the IPL was suspended, it had gone downhill for Gujarat with the ball. After conceding 230, 255 and 199 in the last three matches, they ended up giving 228/5 on Friday.

IND vs ENG: Full list of records broken during India vs England 4th Test in Manchester

India pulled off an unlikely draw on Sunday against England in the fourth Test in Manchester in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Though India still trails 2-1 in this series, it goes into the final Test with its tails up, having survived a 311-run first-innings deficit and playing out the final day with just eight wickets in hand. For England, Joe Root and Ben Stokes created multiple records as the side posted a massive 669 runs in the first innings. For the visitor, Shubman Gill continued his run-scoring spree. Here are the records broken in Manchester in the fourth Test: Root equals Sangakkara: England batter Joe Root continued his rise to the top of Test batting charts as he recorded his 38th century to equal Kumar Sangakkara in the most Test centuries list. He's now joint at fourth spot. Root dominates India: This was also Root's 12th century against India, the most any batter has scored against the side. Next-up, Tendulkar: During his 150-run knock, Root went from fifth to second-highest run-getter in Test cricket, surpassing Jacques Kallis, Rahul Dravid and Ricky Ponting. He's now behind Sachin Tendulkar. By the time he was eventually dismissed, Root's tally stood at 13,409 runs. Forgettable century: Jasprit Bumrah recorded the most expensive spell of his Test career, two for 112, in his 48-match red-ball career. Captain fantastic: Ben Stokes became the fourth all-rounder from England to score a century and pick a five-wicket haul in the same match. Tony Greig, Ian Botham and Gus Atkinson are the other players to achieve the feat. Only Botham has achieved this feat more than once (5). In elite company: Ben Stokes completed 7,000 runs in Test cricket — only the third player to record 7,000 runs and 200 wickets in Tests. Only Jacques Kallis and Garfield Sobers had achieved the feat before Stokes. Bumrah equals Ishant: Jasprit Bumrah equalled Ishant Sharma's tally of 51 wickets in England to become India's joint-highest wicket-taker in the country. Mammoth total: England scored 669 runs — the ninth-highest total conceded by India. For England, this was its second-best effort against India, with the best of 710 for seven coming in Birmingham in 2011. The last team to score 600 runs or more against India was New Zealand, which managed 680 runs in Wellington in 2014. Gill's golden run: Shubman Gill became only the third Indian batter after Sunil Gavaskar and Yashasvi Jaiswal to score 700 runs or more in a Test series. He finished his Test with 722 runs, the third-most by an Indian in a series. Gill also became the first Asian batter to score 650 runs or more in a Test series in England. Captain Gill makes a mark: He scored his fourth century of the series, tying him with Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli for the most hundreds by an Indian in a series. Gill also tied with Don Bradman, for the most hundreds in a series by a captain. Bradman had reached the three-figure mark four times during the Ashes in 1947/48 in Australia. Jadeja-Washington strike match-saving stand: Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar struck hundreds on the final day of the Test, adding 223 runs for the fifth wicket, the highest for India in the 4th innings of an away Test.

Ravindra Jadeja slams 5th century, leads India's resistance vs England in Manchester Test

Ravindra Jadeja continued his consistent form in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test series when he slammed his 5th century in the longest format in the last day of the 5th match at Manchester on Sunday as he and Washington Sundar helped India stay steady and aim for a draw. The allrounder slammed 12 fours and 1 sixe in 182 balls to get to his milestone with Sundar also closing in on his own ton. This was another gritty innings for the Saurashtra who almost pulled off a miracle in the Lord's Test a couple of weeks ago but India ultimately fell 22 runs short. Both Jadeja and Washington batted with a strong purpose to save the game, frustrating a worn out England attack. At tea, India were 322 for four after collecting 99 runs from a wicketless afternoon session. Ben Stokes, who looked lethal in his eight over spell in the morning, could not keep up the intensity in the three overs he bowled in the second session. In a 15-run over from Stokes, Washington pulled the England captain for a six and four to bring up his fifty before Jadeja employed the cut to complete his fifth half-century in six innings. With not much batting to come and Rishabh Pant injured, it remains to be seen if India can pull off a draw from here. What made England's life difficult is that left-arm spinner Liam Dawson (0/70 in 39 overs) was not able to challenge the Indian left-handers enough while Jofra Archer too get could not get a breakthrough post lunch. In the morning session, Shubman Gill completed a gutsy hundred after Stokes battled through pain to dismiss a well set K L Rahul, leaving India at 223 for four at lunch. Resuming the day at 174 for two with a deficit of 137, India remained on course to draw the game courtesy a fighting effort from Gill, who brought up his fourth century of the series. The Indian captain fell at the stroke of lunch with the visitors still trailing England by 88 runs. (With agency inputs)

The all-rounder has been an integral part of the SRH squad for the last couple of seasons, and on the back of his performances in the IPL, he even managed to secure the India call-up. However, the past week saw rumours swirling about him wanting to explore a new challenge in the IPL edition of 2026. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Addressing the rumblings, Reddy has come out to state that he is not swayed by the 'outside noise' and clarifies that the relationship between him and SRH is as strong as ever. An India Today report gave credence to the assertions by claiming that Reddy is not happy with his role within the SRH setup and is contemplating an exit from the franchise. Reddy had an untactful IPL 2025 edition. The all-rounder featured in 13 matches of the season and failed to lift the struggling team with his performance. He managed to score just 182 runs at an average of 22.75 and carried a modest strike rate of 118.95. Reddy was retained by the franchise ahead of the auction for Rs. 6 crore. Nitish's struggles continued in England The IPL struggles carried forward to India's series against England. The team management entrusted Reddy to deliver handy performances with the bat in the lower order and also contribute with the ball. Reddy failed to capitalise on the opportunities he received and might particularly rue the chance he missed at Lord's, where he could have forged a match-winning stand with Ravindra Jadeja. However, he left India in dire straits and eventually the team lost by 22 runs. Following the Lord's Test,
