Man dies after trying to help two children in sea
A 60-year-old man has died after trying to help two children who appeared to be in distress in the sea near Skegness, in Lincolnshire.
Lincolnshire Police said the man entered the water shortly after 4pm on Sunday near the promenade at Ingoldmells.
Emergency services were called, but he got into difficulties and died at the scene.
In a statement, Lincolnshire Police said: 'Our thoughts are with the man's family and loved ones at this very sad time.'
An air ambulance, coastguard and the RNLI were deployed. An RNLI spokesman confirmed that a lifeboat from Skegness was launched.
No further information about the children involved has been released.

Man appears in court charged with murder of missing Reanne Coulson
A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a missing 34-year-old woman. The family of Reanne Coulson, 34, who has not been seen since May, has been told by West Midlands Police (WMP) that officers found a body in Binley Woods on the edge of Coventry on Friday afternoon. Mohammed Durnion, 42, appeared at Coventry Magistrates' Court charged with murder on Saturday and was remanded in custody ahead of a preliminary hearing at Warwick Crown Court on Tuesday, police said. Adam Moore, 38, from Coventry, who is charged with assisting an offender also appeared at Coventry Magistrates on Saturday. He was ordered to next appear in custody at Warwick Crown Court on July 24. Ms Coulson was last seen in the city in May and concerns were raised by her family after she failed to make contact with them on her birthday on June 17. Formal identification of the body found has yet to take place but police have said they 'do believe it is Reanne'. Detective Superintendent Jim Munro, from WMP's major crime unit, said: 'We've been focussed on doing all we can to find Reanne and our thoughts remain with her family at this deeply distressing time. 'While formal identification still needs to take place we do believe it is Reanne. 'We've charged a man with murder, and another for assisting an offender, but our inquiries to establish exactly what happened and why are ongoing. 'We'll continue to update and support Reanne's family.' Ms Coulson's brother Ashley thanked the public for everything they have done to help try and find her while asking that the family are left alone to grieve.

'Hairy hands' used to warn Durham students against thefts
"Hairy hand" leaflets are being used to warn students to be vigilant against opportunistic of a campaign by Durham Police, they depict a hairy hand on one side and have crime prevention advice printed on the warn students in Durham of the need to keep their households secure when they go out to celebrate the end of have been out and about in the city checking properties, and while most were secure, several of the "hands" were posted through open windows. Strictly star mugged in Central London AND in broad daylight as 'traumatic' ordeal leaves them 'scared and helpless'
A Strictly Come Dancing star has been robbed in broad daylight in London this week, leaving her 'scared and helpless'. Professional dancer Michelle Tsiakkas, 29, was on her way to the dentist early in the morning when her phone was snatched. In an emotional post on Instagram, the ballroom star recounted the 'traumatising' incident to fans whilst urging them to stay vigilant. Michelle said in a video message: 'This was a couple of days ago and I've just about mentally recovered from that. It was quite traumatising on the day. 'It wasted my whole day and made me feel awful, scared, helpless and I don't want the same to happen to you. 'My phone got stolen. My phone got stolen. I mean I see it happening all the time but it's just one of those things that you just never think it's gonna happen to you. and then it does.' Michelle, who joined Strictly three years ago, said a man on a bike swiped her mobile while she was in Convent Garden. The brunette explained: 'So it was early morning. I was on my way to the dentist in London. 'It was around Covent Garden so the streets were really quiet. I think I was just the only person around so maybe I was an easy target and I whipped out my phone to have a look at the directions to see where my dentist was. 'I was on the actual street of the dentist and what happens? A man comes on a bike behind me, sweeps past me and grabs my phone. 'So he's grabbed my phone. He's on an electric bike and my heart just sank. I tried to I think like reach for it and that made me fall on my knees on the floor and graze my knee. 'I think my reflex was just to swear and then scream give me back my phone and clearly you know that didn't work. 'He just left. He was wearing a mask so there was no way that I could have seen what he looked like and he was going really fast on that electric bike so there was no way on earth I could have caught up with him. 'Thankfully there were two really lovely and helpful women there and they'd seen that I was a bit distressed.' Michelle was flooded with support from concerned fans as well as her Strictly family, with fellow pro dancer Nancy Xu simply commenting with love heart emojis. Last year Michelle was given her first celebrity pairing by BBC bosses, coupled up with under-fire EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick. Meanwhile, earlier this year it was reported Michelle's Italian hunk boyfriend Simone Arena, 33, is joining the dance competition's line up of dance professionals who are paired with the celebrity contestants. Born in Catania, Italy, Simone has been a professional dancer since childhood, becoming the Vice Italian Latin Champion at the age of 16.
