LeBron James and Maverick Carter meet with Nikola Jokic's agent about starting a new league
Raznatovic accompanied the photo with an intriguing comment: "The summer of 2025 is the perfect time to make big plans for the fall of 2026! @kingjames @mavcarter
The post triggered speculation that perhaps James and Jokic could team up on either the Lakers or Nuggets, but more likely it suggests James has more than a peripheral interest in the new league.
Front Office Sports reported in January that Carter was advising a group of investors trying to raise $5 billion to jump-start the league but that James wasn't involved. That may have changed.

So what's the league about?
Early discussions are of a touring model with six men's and six women's teams playing in eight cities, none of which are likely to be in the United States. Investors include the Singapore government, SC Holdings, the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, a Macau casino operator, UBS, Skype founder Geoff Prentice and former Facebook executive Grady Burnett, according to the Financial Times. Reports have linked VC firm Quiet Capital, tech investor Byron Deeter and Hong Kong-based Galaxy Entertainment to the effort.
Investors are leaning toward not allowing players in the league unless they cut ties with the NBA, making the model somewhat like LIV Golf — the professional circuit funded by (PIF). A better comparison in terms of format and scale might be Formula 1 Racing, which holds 24 races a year across five continents.
Raznatovic's involvement would be key. His Belgrade, Serbia, agency BeoBasket has a partnership with Excel Sports Management and represents dozens of top European players, including Clippers center Ivica Zubac.

The EuroLeague is currently recognized as the world's second-best basketball circuit, but can't come close to paying players NBA-level salaries.
If Raznatovic's social media post is an indication, the new league could launch as soon as the fall of 2026. Until then, fans wanting an alternative to the NBA can check out Ice Cube's tour-based Big3 basketball league, which makes its single stop in Los Angeles on Aug. 9.
The LA Riot, coached by Nick Young and starring Dwight Howard and Jordan Crawford, will play the Boston Ball Hogs at the Intuit Dome at 1 p.m. PDT.

Last week the Wings (8-21) beat the Liberty 92-82, a game that became a distant memory Tuesday night. New York (18-10) grabbed the lead out of the gate and held on to it throughout most of the game. Two free throws by Bueckers tied the game at 34 in the final minutes of the first half, before Stephanie Talbot hit a 3-pointer to give New York a lead it never gave up the rest of the way. Talbot reached double digits with 13 points while Sabrina Ionescu was relatively quiet, scoring nine points, three in the first half and six in the second. Former Miami Heat employee charged for stealing $3.7 million LeBron jersey, hundreds of other items
Former Miami Heat security officer Marcos Thomas Perez faced federal charges of transporting and transferring stolen goods in interstate commerce on Tuesday, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida. The 62-year-old retired member of the Miami Police Department is accused of stealing hundreds of items from the team, including LeBron James' jersey from Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals, which went on to sell for nearly $3.7 million in a 2023 Sotheby's auction. Advertisement Perez was employed by the Heat from 2016-2021 and later by the NBA from 2022-2025, according to the U.S. Attorney's office. 'During his tenure, Perez worked on the game-day security detail at the Kaseya Center, where he was among a limited number of trusted individuals with access to a secured equipment room,' the release says. 'This equipment room stored hundreds of game-worn jerseys and other memorabilia that the organization intended to display in a future Miami Heat museum.' Perez allegedly stole more than 400 game-used jerseys and other items from the equipment room, selling them on multiple online marketplaces. Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Perez's home in April and seized almost 300 items that the Heat confirmed had been stolen from their arena. 'Over a three-year period, Perez sold over 100 stolen items for approximately $2 million and shipped them across state lines, often for prices well below their market value,' the press release says, including the James Game 7 jersey for about $100,000. That same jersey went on to sell for $3.68 million in a highly publicized Sotheby's auction in January 2023. At the time, it was the third most ever paid for a game-used jersey behind Michael Jordan's 1998 NBA Finals Game 1 'Last Dance' jersey ($10.091 million) and Diego Maradona's 1986 World Cup 'Hand of God' jersey ($9.28 million). 'Sotheby's is fully cooperating with law enforcement and, out of respect for the ongoing investigation, will not comment further at this time,' the auction said on Tuesday. The charges are reminiscent of those faced by former Augusta National employee Richard Brendan Globensky, who pled guilty to stealing items worth an estimated $5.3 million from the country club, including Arnold Palmer's green jacket, which was intercepted in an FBI sting operation in 2022. Dallas Wings' Maddy Siegrist returns after missing 18 games due to knee injury, scores 13 in loss to Liberty
Dallas Wings forward Maddy Siegrist made the most of her return to the lineup after missing 18 games with a knee injury. Siegrist scored 13 points in the Wings' 85-76 loss to the New York Liberty on Tuesday night. "It's been a long process building up to the moment. I want to try to help my team," Siegrist said. "I wanted to come out with a win tonight, but to get the first one under your belt is great." Wings coach Chris Koclanes had Siegrist was on a minutes restriction against the Liberty and she played 15. Siegrist, who grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York, joked at shootaround that she would need to tell the 150 friends and friends in attendance to not chant for her to play more. "I'll need to explain to my grandma that I can only play so many minutes," she said laughing. She scored nearly right away when she came into the game four minutes into the first quarter. Siegrist, the NCAA Division I scoring leader ahead of Caitlin Clark when she played for Villanova in 2022-23, was limited to 11 games in an injury-plagued rookie season two years ago. She averaged 9.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in 11 games and had her only double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 boards the game before she was injured, an 81-65 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on June 8. "I'm excited. Oh my gosh, yes," Siegrist said before the game. "I'm excited to get back out there. As a competitor you always have expectations. I just want to feel good and comfortable. My minutes will be limited so that takes some of the pressure off."
