Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), a Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, announced on August 1 that it has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Reintjes GmbH, a renowned German company specializing in the design and manufacture of marine propulsion gearboxes.
The collaboration aims to integrate Reintjes GmbH's high-quality propulsion gear trains with selected engines on ships built by GRSE. This partnership is expected to support both domestic and export shipbuilding programs, including warships for defence forces and commercial vessels.
In its press release, GRSE highlighted that the association would contribute to achieving higher standards of propulsion efficacy, adding to its legacy of engineering excellence. Reintjes GmbH, known for pioneering marine gearbox technology, will play a strategic role in enhancing GRSE's offerings.
Founded in 1884 and taken over by the Indian government in 1960, GRSE was the first Indian shipyard to build a warship for the Indian Navy. The shipyard has delivered over 800 platforms to date, including 112 warships. Its infrastructure allows for the concurrent construction of 28 ships, and it operates four distinct shipyards—an unmatched advantage in India.
This MoU is in line with GRSE's ongoing efforts to strengthen technological capabilities and meet global standards in shipbuilding.

Trump admin live updates: GOP megabill could add $4.1T to the debt, CBO says
Previously, the CBO said the bill would add $3.4 trillion to the deficit. 2:25 President Donald Trump is back to Washington, where he says he's expecting this week to hire a new commissioner for the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The president's envoy is expected to travel this week to Russia, as the White House continues pushing for negotiations to end Moscow's war in Ukraine. Trump megabill could add $4.1T to deficit over next decade, new analysis states A new analysis from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said President Donald Trump's sweeping tax cut and spending bill passed last month will create $718 billion in additional debt-service costs, bringing the law's overall debt projection to $4.1 trillion over 10 years. "As a result, and net of any changes in borrowing for federal credit programs, the agency estimates that the legislation will increase debt held by the public at the end of 2034 by 9.5 percentage points relative to CBO's January 2025 baseline budgetary projections of gross domestic product (GDP). Other factors, such as administrative actions affecting tariffs and immigration, also have affected deficits and debt since January 2025 and will be reflected in CBO's next baseline," the report stated. < Previously, the CBO said the Senate's final version of Trump's massive policy and tax bill would add $3.4 trillion to the deficit over the next decade. The new analysis released on Monday comes after Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., requested an update on the bill's impact on the debt. -ABC News' Lauren Peller 3 hours and 55 minutes ago India responds to Trump's tariff hike The Indian government responded on Monday after President Donald Trump posted on social media that he will be "substantially raising" tariffs on the nation over its purchases of Russian oil. India's Ministry of External Affairs released a statement detailing why it buys certain commodities from Russia and called the targeting of India "unjustified and unreasonable." "India's imports are meant to ensure predictable and affordable energy costs to the Indian consumer. They are a necessity compelled by global market situation. However, it is revealing that the very nations criticizing India are themselves indulging in trade with Russia. Unlike our case, such trade is not even a vital national compulsion," the ministry said. President Donald Trump posted on social media that he will be "substantially raising" tariffs on India over its purchases of Russian oil. "India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits. They don't care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine. Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the USA," Trump wrote. Last week, Trump announced that India will be paying a 25% tariff plus a penalty due to its trade relations with Russia. He hasn't revealed what the penalty would be. His post comes as Trump gave Russia a 10-day deadline, which expires on Friday, to negotiate a ceasefire with Ukraine or else face sanctions.
