Panicked passengers and visitors to Toronto Pearson Airport revealed they heard gunshots coming from inside the building - police later said a person had been shot, but no cops were injured
People inside Toronto Pearson Airport have revealed the moment they heard "popping noises" inside the building before police shot a man.
Panicked passengers and visitors to the airport said they heard gunshots shortly before 7am this morning before they were told to leave. Armed police swarmed the building before putting the airport on lockdown. People were seen abandoning their luggage and racing for vehicles outside. Peel police later confirmed a man inside the Canadian airport had been shot in Terminal 1 and that officers involved were not injured. Chris Rind, a visitor to the airport, revealed the moment he heard the sound of gunshots ringing inside the building.

He told Canadian network CP24 that he heard "loud popping noises" coming from inside the building. He said the noises had caught nearby security officials off guard.
Witness Kevin McLaughlin also told local news that there were "lots of cops" when he got out of the airport at about 7:30am. He added: "When we rolled in, it was just weird. There was a lot of flashing lights...There was something going on."

Ontario police said Highway 409 to Terminal 1 Departures had been closed as part of a police investigation and have since urged drivers to avoid the area. Peel paramedics also said they were "actively responding" to an incident at the airport.
"Due to a Peel Police investigation outside Terminal 1 departures, passengers and vehicles are being rerouted to enter and exit through T1 arrivals," Pearson Airport said. "We will provide updates throughout the morning."
The Toronto Transit Commission said the 900 Airport Express bus is detouring via Terminal 3 due to ongoing "police activity." Investigators have since been dispatched to the airport and are set to release more details about what happened as they emerge.
People have been encouraged to check with the airport regarding flights in and out of the area. The incident caused a lot of discussion among people who were unsure about what had happened at the airport.
"Anyone know what's going on at Pearson airport? Dozen police cars & rifles out?" one user wrote on X. Another said: "Just heard Pearson T1 is now locked down. Dozens of people abandoning their Ubers (and now being turned back). Anyone know what's up?"

'I didn't feel safe': Bev Priestman returns from spying ban to coach Wellington Phoenix

Former Canada women's football coach Bev Priestman has said she 'didn't feel safe' living in North America following her one-year ban for spying at the Paris Olympics. Wellington Phoenix announced Wednesday that Priestman would take over as head coach of their women's team, returning to football in the country she was banned for spying on with a drone, New Zealand. She has signed a two-year contract. The 39-year-old was visibly emotional as she discussed her suspension, and how nervous she is to be returning to the sport. 'I didn't feel safe,' Priestman said of living in Canada after the Olympics. 'That's being brutally honest. It was very difficult for my family, and I have to live with that. 'Obviously it was an absolute media frenzy. You've got people knocking at your door and everything, and I've got a little boy. Without going into too much detail, it was very difficult. We knew we had to get out of that country.' Fifa banned Priestman for one year after her coaching team used a drone to snoop on New Zealand before they played at the Paris Games. New Zealand had spotted drones flying over their training sessions before their opening match and reported it to officials. An investigation found the Canadian team had been spying on rival training sessions for some time. Priestman said she is prevented from speaking about the situation in detail, due to ongoing legal discussions. But on her return to New Zealand she said she had talked to players and officials. She said the move to Wellington was an opportunity to 'reset' her career, and rebuild. On Tuesday night, hours after her ban was lifted, she ran her first coaching session in more than a year. 'I celebrated last night coaching the under-7s, my son's team, in the pouring Wellington rain,' Priestman said. 'That was a nice, humbling experience. They got all the energy from me in that moment because I've just been itching to do that.' She said she had learned from her ban, and her experience with Canada, and would be a better coach for it. 'There's certain values that I hold and unfortunately, you know, things around me have clouded my judgement,' Priestman said. 'So for me personally, I just want to get back to... I love working with people. I love getting the best out of people. I love being on a football pitch. 'I just want to create a special moment for this city, for this country and move forward.' Wellington Phoenix chairman Rob Morrison said he was 'really pleased to be able to welcome Bev back to football'. 'We all know she's had a period of time away from the game, but we understand the circumstances and we're really comfortable with this appointment. Bev can't wait to get started, and we're really happy that she's going to be coaching the Phoenix.'

Chile hands luxury watches stolen from Keanu Reeves over to the FBI

Chilean authorities said they turned six valuable watches stolen from Canadian actor Keanu Reeves over to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, months after recovering them in a police raid. One of the stolen watches is an engraved Rolex worth at least 9,500 dollars. The FBI will arrange for their return to Reeves, best known for his roles in action franchises like The Matrix and John Wick. Chilean prosecutors told reporters that Reeves had identified the watches as those stolen from his Los Angeles home during a string of high-profile burglaries in December 2023. The announcement was made as the Trump administration's secretary of homeland security, Kristi Noem, arrived in the South American country for meetings with Chilean officials about transnational crime, among other issues. Ms Noem was also the victim of a robbery attributed to a Chilean national residing illegally in the US, when her handbag was stolen last April at a Washington restaurant. Reeves' six watches are valued at a total of 125,000 dollars (£93,550), said Marcelo Varas, a police officer from Chile's robbery investigation squad. The watches stolen from Reeves' Hollywood Hills home turned up in Santiago, Chile's capital, when police raided homes and uncovered stolen cars, iPhones, luxury watches and designer handbags. That operation coincided with another Chilean investigation, co-ordinated with the FBI, into a spate of burglaries by South America-based crime groups targeting multimillion-dollar homes in the US, many belonging to celebrities and professional athletes, such as Kansas City Chiefs football player Travis Kelce. In April, police in Chile announced the arrest of 23 citizens over the string of break-ins. Mr Varas said authorities were still investigating any link between the theft of Reeves' watches and the other high-profile burglaries.
