Spanish police say Liverpool player Diogo Jota and his brother have died in a car accident in Spain
The Spanish civil guard confirmed to The Associated Press that Jota and his brother were found dead after their car went off a road near the western city of Zamora.
Police were investigating the causes. They said there were no other vehicles involved.
The 28-year-old Jota and his brother, 25-year-old Andre Silva, both Portuguese players, were in the car.
Jota also played for Portugal's national team and helped it win the Nations League last month.
Silva played with Portuguese club Penafiel in the lower divisions.

Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020 and won three major trophies with the Merseyside club — including the Premier League title last season
Jota's death comes weeks after he married Rute Cardoso and in a social media post wrote, 'Yes to forever.'
The AP approached Liverpool for comment but the club had not immediately responded.

Spain winger Nico Williams agrees to stay at Athletic Bilbao for the coming decade
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Spain winger Nico Williams has agreed to long-term deal that will keep him at Athletic Bilbao through 2035, the Spanish club said Friday. The 22-year-old Williams has been one of the top rising talents since he excelled in helping Spain win the 2024 European Championship last summer. Barcelona was reportedly keen on trying to sign him. Instead, Athletic said Williams will sign a new deal that gives him an eight-year extension. His current contract was through 2027. F1 team Alpine appoints Steve Nielsen as managing director
ENSTONE, England (AP) — Formula 1 team Alpine has appointed Steve Nielsen as managing director to oversee its daily operations. The team said in a statement Friday that Nielsen will start in his role in September ahead of the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. He will be reporting to the team's executive advisor Flavio Briatore.
