Coach hopes to see better chemistry between duo after 'reconciliation'

KUALA LUMPUR: National mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto is concerned about Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei's on court communication after they reunited after a brief breakup.
While Nova has no issue with their play, he wants to see better verbal chemistry between Tang Jie and Ee Wei during play.
Nova has shifted his attention to the non-technical aspects of the duo's game ahead of the Japan Open (July 15-20), China Open (July 22-27) and Paris World Championships (Aug 25-31).
He said that while the world No. 4 pair are technically sound and capable of matching the world's best, their on-court communication remains a concern.
The duo briefly broke up in March due to differences and communication issues, but reunited weeks later.
Now, Nova wants Tang Jie-Ee Wei to claim a title before the global event to boost their confidence.
"These two tournaments before the World Championships are very important. I hope they can win at least one title to build momentum.
"I'm focusing on the non-technical aspects of their game, especially their communication, as that was the issue previously," said Nova.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei started the year strongly, reaching the semi-finals of the Malaysia and India Opens.
However, a first-round exit at the All England in March led to their partnership breaking up before reuniting for the Singapore Open (May 27-June 1), where they lost in the second round. Their most recent result was a semi-final finish at the Indonesia Open last month.
Nova acknowledged that the expectations on Tang Jie-Ee Wei to deliver titles are high.
"The mixed doubles is the only doubles discipline without a title this year. That should make them more determined to win a title," he said.
"If they communicate and manage the non-technical side of their game well, I believe they'll perform."

Pearly-Thinaah to stay with BAM until 2028 Olympics

KUALA LUMPUR: At last, the wait is over. Women's doubles Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah have ended speculation over their future by committing to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) until at least the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The world No.3 are expected to sign a new contract before flying to Tokyo for the Japan Open on July 15-20. Their decision brings much-needed relief to fans and officials alike, ending months of uncertainty after their previous deal expired in December. All negotiations with BAM have now been wrapped up, with the new agreement ensuring Pearly-Thinaah remain the nation's key contenders in the hunt for a historic first Olympic gold. BAM president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz had earlier vowed to resolve the matter before the pair's trip to Japan, and he has stayed true to his word. Following the Japan Open, the pair will head to the China Open (July 22-27), before preparing for the World Championships in Paris on Aug 25-31. Their recent run of form has been nothing short of outstanding: champions at the Thailand Open, runners-up at the Indonesia Open, semi-finalists at the Malaysia Masters, and quarter-finalists in Singapore.
