Soto, 30, has a 3.96 ERA with 18 walks and 44 strikeouts in 45 appearances for the Orioles this season. The lefty has held left-handed batters to a .138 batting average allowing just eight walks and 22 strikeouts. He's been even stingier in 21 games since June 4 with left-handed batters 0-for-23.

An All-Star in 2021 and 2022 with Detroit, Soto is 14-31 with a 4.24 ERA, 187 walks and 394 strikeouts in parts of seven major league seasons. He signed with Detroit in 2012 and is a native of the Dominican Republic. Baltimore acquired him last July from Philadelphia.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Francisco Lindor homered in the third, Brandon Nimmo added a two-run single in the fourth and Juan Soto drove in two runs as New York backed Clay Holmes, and the Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 8-1 on Friday night for their fifth straight win. Holmes (9-5) surrendered one run and six hits over five innings with two strikeouts and a walk for his first win in five starts since beating Atlanta on June 25. New York got on the board in a hurry against All-Star Logan Webb (9-8). Nimmo doubled leading off the game and scored on Soto's RBI groundout, while Lindor singled after Nimmo and Pete Alonso drove him home on a sacrifice fly. Soto added an RBI single in the ninth. Webb has had back-to-back rough outings. He was tagged for a career-high tying 11 hits over six innings of a 6-3 loss at Toronto on Saturday, then gave up six runs and eight hits in four innings Friday. Nick Kurtz of Athletics becomes 1st MLB rookie to hit 4 home runs in a game
Nick Kurtz of the Athletics became the first rookie in Major League Baseball history to hit four home runs in a game and matched the MLB record with 19 total bases against the Astros on Friday night in Houston. Kurtz went deep in the second, sixth, eighth and ninth innings. He also doubled and singled on his 6-for-6 night to equal Shawn Green, who had four homers, six hits and 19 total bases for the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 23, 2002 at Milwaukee. "It's hard to think about this day being kind of real, it still feels like a dream," Kurtz said in a postgame television interview. "So it's pretty remarkable. I'm kind of speechless. Don't really know what to say." It was the 20th four-homer game in major league history and second this season. Arizona's Eugenio Suarez did it on April 26 against Atlanta. Kurtz and Green are the only players with six hits in a four-homer game. Kurtz finished with eight RBIs and six runs scored as the Athletics beat the Astros 15-3. The 6-foot-5, 22-year-old slugger has 23 homers in 66 games this season.
