Freedom Flotilla Handala officially sets sail for Gaza

Roya News20-07-2025
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition announced that its ship, Handala, has officially set sail for Gaza, marking what organizers describe as a mission of 'solidarity, resistance, and hope.'
'This is not an ordinary voyage — it is a collective act of solidarity, resistance, and hope,' the coalition said in a statement. 'As we prepare to set sail, we remain undeterred in our mission to break Israel's illegal and inhumane blockade on Gaza and to demand an end to the impunity that allows it to continue.'
The group acknowledged the dangers of the journey but stressed the urgency of their mission. 'We know the risks. But we also know the urgency — Palestinians in Gaza cannot wait. We carry with us their voices, especially those of the children, and the voices of people around the world who demand justice.'

Gaza condemns ‘Israeli' raid on Handala aid ship as ‘blatant violation' of international law

The Government Media Office in Gaza strongly condemned the 'Israeli' military's storming of the Handala aid ship in international waters, calling it a 'blatant violation of international law and maritime rules.' In a statement, the office accused 'Israel' of acting as an outlaw power, targeting every humanitarian effort aimed at supporting more than 2.4 million Palestinians suffering under siege and famine in Gaza. The statement placed full responsibility for the safety of the activists on the occupying forces, while expressing deep appreciation for those on board the Handala who attempted to break the blockade and show solidarity with Gaza. It urged the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to take urgent and firm action against what it called an act of aggression, and to ensure international protection for humanitarian convoys trying to relieve Gaza's humanitarian crisis.

‘Israeli' army boards Handala, abducts activists in international waters

The 'Israeli' military has boarded the Handala aid ship in international waters and detained all activists on board, preventing the vessel from reaching Gaza, according to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. The Handala, carrying food, baby formula, and humanitarian supplies, was part of a civilian mission aimed at breaking the blockade on Gaza. Activists had repeatedly stated that they were in international waters and posed no threat. Organizers and human rights groups have condemned the raid as a violation of international law and an act of piracy, calling for the immediate release of the activists and accountability for the interception.

GHF whistleblower reveals ‘Israeli' war crimes at Gaza aid sites

A former security contractor for the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an aid group supported by the United States and 'Israel', has made explosive allegations to BBC, saying he has witnessed the 'Israeli' military shooting at crowds of Palestinians. He added that never saw such 'brutality and use of indiscriminate and unnecessary force against a civilian population, an unarmed, starving population'. The whistleblower, Sergeant Lieutenant Anthony Aguilar, former veteran of the US Special Force, recounted disturbing incidents, particularly one where an 'Israeli' tank firing a main gun tank round from a Merkava tank into a crowd of people. 'Destroying a car of civilians that were simply driving away from the [aid] site,' Aguilar added, 'I witnessed mortar rounds being fired at the crowds of people to keep them controlled,' he continued. Aguilar described the setup of the aid sites as 'amateurish'. 'Inexperienced, untrained, no idea of how to conduct operations of this magnitude,' Aguilar said that his 'benign' assessment from his time serving in the GHF. 'In my most frank assessment, I would say they are criminal. In my entire career have I never witnessed the level of brutality and use of indiscriminate and unnecessary force.' The GHF, established in February 2025 and funded by the US government, was intended as an alternative to the UN-led aid system, which 'Israel' and the US claimed was susceptible to Hamas diversion. The GHF has denied Aguilar's testimony, calling them "categorically false" and claimed that he is merely a 'disgruntled former contractor who was terminated for misconduct.' Aguilar in return denied the GHF's claims. Widespread Condemnation and Civilian Casualties The GHF's operational model, led by military contractors and operating with "Israeli government oversight" but "without transparency, independence, or accountability," has drawn widespread condemnation. The UN and over 170 charities have refused to cooperate with the GHF, demanding its closure and accusing it of "politicizing and 'weaponizing aid'". Former GHF Executive Director Jake Wood resigned, stating it was "not possible to implement this plan while also strictly adhering to the humanitarian principles". Alarmingly, aid distribution at GHF sites has been described as a "death trap". As of July 15, 'Israeli' forces had killed nearly 700 Palestinians and injured hundreds more at or near GHF distribution points. The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recorded 766 killings in the vicinity of GHF sites by July 22, 2025, with the Gaza Health Ministry tracing 70% of hundreds of aid-related deaths to GHF locations by July 1.
