Tshwane police nab trio impersonating officers in robbing motorists
Tshwane police have arrested three suspects who posed as officers using blue lights to pull over and rob unsuspecting motorists.
The arrests follow a series of armed robberies in which criminals posed as police officers, using blue lights to pull over unsuspecting motorists before robbing them at gunpoint.
Tshwane District Police spokesperson Captain Johan Van Dyk said that in the early hours of Thursday, July 24, officers from Boschkop SAPS, assisted by Echo 1 Security and the Boschkop Community Policing Forum (CPF), responded to intelligence and intercepted a white Toyota Hilux GD6 double-cab bakkie on the R104.
'The identified vehicle had been linked through surveillance footage and community intelligence to multiple incidents of this nature in the Boschkop policing area.'
He added that the suspects were found with items typically used to impersonate law enforcement officers.
'During the arrest, the suspects were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, unlicensed ammunition, a blue light and a Police uniform. All three suspects have been charged with armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The vehicle has also been positively linked to similar cases in the Cullinan and Bronkhorstspruit policing areas,' Van Dyk added.

Medical officials declared the man dead at the scene. The couple's daughter had been placed in the care of trauma counsellors, as there is currently no immediate family available in Pretoria, says Van Dyk. He adds that the daughter said that her mother had recently returned home late after attending a work-related training session. 'It is believed that this led to an argument between the victim and the suspect. The daughter reported that she later awoke to the sound of gunshots, but was unable to confirm the exact events that followed. 'Crime scene experts attended the scene and conducted a thorough investigation. The firearm was seized and will be sent for ballistic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.' Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and have opened an inquest docket relating to the suspected suicide. Body of missing woman discovered in open field in Eersterust The discovery of a dead body in Eersterust, east of the Pretoria city centre, has prompted an investigation. Pretoria Rekord reports that, according to local police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk, community members discovered the body yesterday. 'In the afternoon, community members discovered a body in an open field along Swartberg Street in Eersterust,' he says. 'Police were immediately alerted, and upon arrival, discovered the partially buried body of a female, with one hand visible above ground. Specialised units from the South African Police Service, including Crime Scene Management and search and rescue units, were activated and deployed to the scene to assist with the investigation.' Van Dyk adds that preliminary findings indicated that the deceased was a 30-year-old woman who was reported missing in Sunnyside on July 4. 'A case of murder has been opened, and investigations are ongoing,' he says. He adds that the police are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in the investigation.
