Matildas lynchpin Ellie Carpenter signs for Chelsea
The 25-year-old defender will link up with Matildas skipper Sam Kerr in London after penning a four-year deal.
The Australian international was welcomed into the six-time Super League champions' fold by Paul Green, head of women's football at Chelsea, on Wednesday.
'Ellie is a player who we have tracked for many years. She has a lot of experience for someone of her age and has won numerous titles in her career, including the Champions League,' Green said on the club's website.
'She is an athletic full back who loves to get forward. We are excited to see how she continues to develop and what she will add to an already talented squad of players.
'Everyone at Chelsea warmly welcomes Ellie to the club, and we wish her every success during her time as a Blue.'
Carpenter was stoked.
'I'm really excited about this new challenge, it's a new adventure,' said Carpenter. 'It feels like the right move for me, and I can't wait to get started and give my all for this club.

‘One of the greatest': Cummins screamer helps Australia take first innings lead over West Indies
St George's: Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins in the Caribbean. Cummins produced one of the all-time caught and bowled dismissals before taking a crucial partnership-breaking wicket to help Australia roll the West Indies for 253 and bank a 33-run first innings lead in Grenada. It was a sleepy start to day two of the second Test, with fewer Australian fans in attendance after a rain-affected opening day which saw the tourists bowled out for 286. Josh Hazlewood got the ball rolling for Australia on Friday, removing Kraigg Brathwaite for an eight-ball duck in the opener's 100th Test courtesy of a sharp return catch to the fast bowler's left side. About six overs later, Cummins trumped Hazlewood's effort with a stunning caught and bowled that will be played for years to come. Bowlers rarely take bat-pad catches because they never stand at short-leg. As a fast-bowling captain, Cummins would be the last person to field in that position, but somehow managed to take a remarkable bat-pad catch off his own bowling thanks to some brilliant athleticism and speed. West Indies No.3 Keacy Carty pushed forward and got a thick outside edge that ballooned in the air on the leg side.

I want to leave: Rashford tells Manchester United
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is one of five players who have told the club they want to leave Old Trafford this summer. It is understood Rashford, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia have all informed United they see their futures lying elsewhere. United have responded by delaying their scheduled return for pre-season training until the end of July to allow them time to find new clubs. Should none of the players secure a new deal elsewhere before the end of the month, they will be welcomed back to Carrington, where they will continue to have full access to medical and training support. The PA agency are also reporting that summer signing Matheus Cunha will be given the number 10 shirt, which had been worn by Rashford, for next season and United have informed the England international's representatives of the decision. Rashford scored four goals in 17 appearances during his time at Villa Park, but the Midlands club decided not to activate the $A83 million option to buy him. The 27-year-old, who fell out of favour at United under head coach Ruben Amorim, is reportedly keen on a move to Barcelona and does not want a move to London, ruling out the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham. There is also reported interest from Germany, Italy and Saudi Arabia for the player, who has scored 17 goals in 62 appearances for England. Garnacho, who made his first-team debut for United as a 17-year-old in 2022 after joining from Atletico Madrid in 2020, has scored 16 goals in 93 Premier League appearances. But his relationship with Amorim has also deteriorated after he vented his frustration on social media following his omission from United's starting line-up in their Europa League final defeat to Tottenham. The Argentinian has been linked with both Chelsea and Italian champions Napoli. Antony failed to justify his huge price tag at Old Trafford after arriving from Ajax in an $A171 million deal in 2022, but he rediscovered top form after joining Real Betis on loan in January. Sancho has failed to settle at United following his arrival from Borussia Dortmund for $A152m in 2021. Malacia, signed for $A27 million from Feyenoord in 2022, made three Premier League appearances for United last season before switching to PSV Eindhoven on loan. Meanwhile Burnley are closing in on a deal to sign Manchester City's England defender Kyle Walker. It is understood Walker, 35, had a medical with newly-promoted Burnley on Friday ahead of a move which could be worth up to $A10 million. Walker is entering the final year of his contract at City and, although he started last season as the club captain, he finished it on loan with AC Milan, who declined to take up an option to make his move permanent.
