Why do the Unionists' work for them with dismissal of ‘de facto' plan?
He wrote: 'I'm always puzzled how so many who argue that we absolutely must take this route can argue with 100% certainty that any UK Government will say no to another referendum on independence, yet can still believe the same UK Government would just roll over and say yes to actual independence in the face of a positive election result.'
The tactic has been employed ever since the 2014 indyref. Sturgeon said much the same in a tired, off-guard moment on TV a few years ago, and cultish devotion to the 'ye cannae' line is still prevalent. Where it comes from, I have no idea, but it is suicidal nonsense, which has gripped the movement and is doing the Unionists' work with a ferocity they themselves lack.
At root, two and only two things must occur for Scottish independence, namely a democratic vote for it to happen, and the implementation of that vote. There are only two ways of holding the vote. One is an official referendum. By law, Holyrood cannot arrange that without special consent from London, which Labour, Tory and Reform UK all completely refuse.
Such refusal bars them from complaining about use of the only alternative method, a plebiscitary election. In fact, there is no indication that they would so complain, so at least on that point they are more level-headed than the Loganites.
A UK General Election is the most solemn, legally sacrosanct, direct expression of the public will, and may be turned into a plebiscite on independence in Scotland simply by the appropriate brief manifesto seeking a head-count majority vote for Scotland to leave the Union, and promising implementation. Such a majority, of any size, would swamp the Scottish seats with the supreme representatives of the Scottish people, mandated to take Scotland out. They could give effect to the vote, restoring Scottish statehood by declaration. No superior manifestation of the will of the people of Scotland exists, and it is perfectly legal and constitutional.
When it comes down to it, after such a vote and with the Scottish members resolved to carry it through, London would not be crazy enough to attempt to prohibit it, and would come to the table for an agreed split.
They would have no case and no power to do otherwise. London claims neither the legal justification nor the practical ability to frustrate the will of Scotland to go. That very proper acknowledgement underpinned the Edinburgh Agreement which preceded the 2014 indyref, and which would not have been possible if London had not conceded Scotland's right.
Anyone who maintains that London would throw over the entire legal and constitutional position, and display itself to the world as the open oppressor of Scotland, has lost the plot.
So it is not a matter of giving London the place, or London taking it, to rule on Scottish independence.
The decision is Scotland's alone, and it is high time that Mr Logan and those who share his catastrophic misgivings saw the simple truth of that fact, and acted on it.

Red Arrows: Next generation of jets could be built in Scotland at Prestwick Airport
Prestwick Airport has been selected as the preferred site to build the next generation of Red Arrows jets in a decision branded a 'once-in-a-generation opportunity'. Aviation company Aeralis is in partnership talks with the Scottish Government-owned airport, situated in central Ayrshire, to assemble its aircraft at the site. If secured, it would mean the next squadron of Red Arrows being built in Scotland in a deal that would deliver hundreds of jobs north of the Border. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The company is the only one in the UK that is designing and building a manned light jet aircraft, which could equip the RAF's display team, or be sold on the international export market. Aeralis says components for the replacement jets would be built around the UK before being assembled at Prestwick, where the aircraft would take their first flight. The airport was bought by the Government for £1 in 2013, though officials hope to sell it back to the private sector. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Ian Forgie, chief executive of Prestwick Airport, said: 'We are tremendously excited about this agreement with Aeralis and the opportunity it brings to generate jobs, apprenticeships, investment and innovation in the Prestwick area. 'We look forward to working with Aeralis to make this happen.' Scottish Labour MP for Central Ayrshire Alan Gemmell said: 'I am proud to support Aeralis's decision to commit to Prestwick. 'This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to bring jet manufacturing back to Prestwick and will mean hundreds of well-paying jobs. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'The Red Arrows are a global symbol of what's best about our country. I couldn't be happier if they become Scottish as well as British.' A commitment from the UK government to the aircraft is needed to progress plans, Aeralis said. If approved, company bosses said the assembly plans "will clearly return Scotland to its deserved place as a first-tier aviation nation". The existing jets, based at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, cost almost £80,000 a day to run. The RAF's aerobatic team was in Scotland last month. Tristan Crawford, chief executive of Aeralis, said: 'Prestwick represents an ideal site for our UK final assembly line. 'The airport has a strong aviation legacy particularly in whole aircraft manufacture, as well as excellent local aerospace manufacturing and MRO [maintenance, repair, overhaul] resources, and an operating model well suited to supporting new aerospace programmes. 'This will provide Aeralis with tremendous operating capability for building, testing and industrialising the new aircraft, meaning Prestwick is the perfect choice for Aeralis.' 'News of this potential investment, and ongoing discussions between Aeralis and Glasgow Prestwick Airport to finalise an agreement for the production of training aircraft, are welcome.' The contact would be a massive economic boost for Glasgow Prestwick and provide an added incentive for potential bidders. The Scottish Government told The Scotsman in May the sale process for the nationalised airport was "at its most intensive", prompting Scottish Conservatives Central Scotland MSP Graham Simpson to predict a deal 'could be very close'. British beach horror as sunbathers scream in terror after terrifying 'bug swarm'
Crowds of beachgoers were captured screaming and running into the sea in a bid to escape the sudden insect invasion - with one claiming 'millions' of critters were 'all over us' A Blackpool beachgoer has told of sheer horror on the coast, claiming "everyone was attacked" during a trip to the seaside. Posting on TikTok, user Shab uploaded alarming footage of the chaotic scene, which showed dozens of people shrieking and fleeing in panic. "Everyone was attacked by flies in Blackpool, it was horrible," she wrote in a caption, before adding: "Millions of them [were] in the water and all over us." Her video also captured crowds running into the sea in a bid to escape the sudden insect invasion, as she declared: "There are swarms of bugs everywhere." The bizarre swarm echoes a similar event in 2022, when holidaymakers described a "biblical" plague of bugs in the same area, as reported by North Wales Live. Just last Easter, beaches including Blackpool North and nearby St Annes North were also flagged as two of 22 coastal UK spots where bathers were advised to avoid entering the water due to pollution concerns linked to sewage. The disturbing trend has since drawn criticism from local MP Chris Webb, who responded by saying: "It is shocking that the Conservative government yet again have allowed Blackpool beach to be hit by an avalanche of raw sewage over the Easter weekend. Blackpool Beach is a much-loved location for locals and holidaymakers and unbeknownst to those using the beach, their health has been put at risk because of the government's failure to act." Mr Webb added: "It should be the polluter, not the public or businesses paying the price. From day one, a Labour Government will take urgent action against water companies to bring an end to illegal sewage dumping, putting the public's health first." TikTok users responding to Shabs' video are highlighting the same problem, claiming sewage is rife on Blackpool's beach. One theorised: "Raw sewage [is] what you're walking in, my son caught dysentery from just paddling years ago at Blackpool." A second person claimed: "The water in Blackpool is so filthy with waste in it, I seen a bird drop its poop in the water and people were rubbing their faces with that same water." And a third added: "Its been on the news and reported [that] Blackpool water has sewage in it and to avoid it etc... I wouldn't dare step foot in that water." Despite people's speculation, there is no solid evidence the flies have been linked to sewage in the water. Many pointed out the "attack" could purely be a result of the common sandfly being in the area. One TikTok user noted: "Sandfly swarms are a recurring, natural phenomenon which can affect any UK beach. It has nothing to do with the state of the beach or if you believe the water is dirty. The state of the beach is down to visitors who constantly fail to clean up after themselves, not the locals." And a second concurred, commenting: "Sandflies, they're rife when the air show is on. We went a couple of years ago and it felt like the plague was back with a vengeance." A senior resident added: "I remember this happening to me and my family 65 years ago in Blackpool. Same beach. The flies came off the sand and my ice cream cone suddenly turned black. We all ran into a large seafront store. I was five or six-years old." Samples of water taken by the Environment Agency on Blackpool North beach in 2022, 2023 and 2024 were all deemed "poor" in their classification. The results of a sample taken on June 20, 2025 are yet to be finalised and published. John Blackledge, Blackpool Council Director of Community and Environmental Services, said: "It is unclear in the brief clip what wildlife may have been present at that time in what is a natural coastal environment. "We are proud of our beaches which so many people love and visit. In May of this year, Blackpool South, Blackpool Central, and Bispham beaches were recognised in the National Seaside Awards for their high standards of beach management, as well as their nearby facilities and water quality. "These prestigious awards are delivered through Keep Britain Tidy a leading environmental agency and testing of waters is carried out by the Environment Agency. The awards celebrate the quality of England's coastline including Blackpool's beaches and waters and are a symbol that visitors can find a clean, safe and well-managed coastal stretch."

Zarah Sultana And Jeremy Corbyn's New Party Explained
Former Labour MP Zarah Sultana has revealed she is resigning from the party after 14 years, and will be starting a new political party with her former leader Jeremy Corbyn. Zarah was stripped the Labour whip last year for backing a move to get rid of the two-child benefit cap. Zarah, who served as the MP for Coventry South, said the new party would be formed with other independent MPs and activists, with the aim of challenging a 'broken' Westminster system. Along with Zarah, other MPs to be suspended from the Labour Party last year included the former Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell, and former leadership candidate Rebecca Long-Bailey. Despite her suspension, Zarah remained a member of the Labour Party. Speaking on the Radio 4 Today programme after she was ousted, Zarah said: 'I'm not interested in playing up to this macho virility test that seems to be what people are talking about. It's about the material conditions of 330,000 children living in poverty. This isn't a game. This is about people's lives.' Zarah made headlines when she became the youngest members of parliament when she was elected in 2019. She has amassed a large social media following over her career, but sadly this has also led to her to be the target of online trolls. In 2023, Zarah was subject to the most abuse of any MP in 2023, 68 per cent more than the next. In an interview with Elle last year, Zarah said: 'I'm a woman, I'm young, I'm Muslim, I'm left wing. When people attack me, it's usually for one – or all – of those reasons.' There isn't a name for the new political party yet, but Zarah wants to offer a left-wing alternative of the Labour Party today. The group doesn't have any clear polices yet, but in a statement released on social media, Zarah outlined where the priorities of the party could lie. In the statement announcing her resignation, Zara wrote 'Jeremy Corbyn and I will co-lead the founding of a new party, with other independent MPs, campaigners and activists across the country.' She continued by saying that 'Westminster is broken but the real crisis is deeper' and the 'two-party system offers nothing but managed decline and broken promises.' She added: 'A year ago I was suspended by the Labour Party for voting to abolish the two-child benefit cap and list 400,000 children out of poverty. I'd do it again. I voted against scrapping winter fuel payments for pensioners. I'd do it again. Now, the Government wants to make disabled people suffer; they just can't decide how much.' She also touched on foreign politics, saying accusing the government of being an 'active participant in genocide' - with reports suggesting the new party could have a strong emphasis on supporting Palestine. At the end of the statement, she urged her followers to 'join us.' Jeremy Corbyn has confirmed his involvement with Zarah's party to the BBC, but also hinted that he may form a new party altogether. In an interview with ITV on Wednesday, Corbyn said that independent MPs would 'come together' to provide an 'alternative' party which will be about 'a society that deals with poverty, inequality and a foreign policy based on peace not war.' The other four independents are: Iqbal Mohamed, Shockat Adam, Ayoub Khan and Adnan Hussain.
