Against the backdrop of its plane crash that killed 260 people on June 12, Wilson said it is natural that there is a period of intense scrutiny following an accident and that all commentary must be taken constructively with grace and an open mind.

The Tata Group-owned airline, which has come under intense scrutiny following the accident, has taken certain measures, including temporary curtailment of flights and completion of inspection of its
Boeing 787
and 737 fleets.
In recent years, Wilson said the airline has improved training and promulgated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to give direction and clarity, strengthened standards, instilled processes to drive compliance and consistency, and introduced performance management practices to rise higher.
"We have focussed on improving reporting, whether it be of safety or other matters, by making it easier to do, more encouraged, more protected and put to more use, and we have adopted philosophies such as those from Baines-Simmons to take opportunities for organisational learning and improvement before jumping to blame or punishment," he said in a message to Air India staff.

Baines-Simmons is a leading aviation safety training and consulting firm.
There have been some incidents involving Air India planes in recent weeks, and aviation regulator DGCA has also issued show cause notices for certain violations following voluntary disclosures made by the carrier.
"We have invested significantly in the adoption of digital systems to replace paper-based ones, so that we have more complete, accurate, accessible and usable data that does not reside in silos," Wilson said.
According to him, sometimes the extra attention means that normal issues get misinterpreted or sensationalised, but sometimes the scrutiny highlights genuine areas for improvement.
"We must take all commentary constructively with grace and an open mind and, where there is an opportunity to act, must do so," he noted.
Wilson, who is the CEO and MD, highlighted that the airline's Net Promoter Score (NPS) touched an all-time record high in July.
NPS is an indicator of passenger satisfaction across various touch points.
"... so far in July more than 1,00,000 have taken the opportunity to give such feedback, and have collectively delivered us an all-time record high NPS score of +34.
"FY23's NPS was -17, FY24 was -3 and last year was +16 so, to close on the opening theme, this steady upward progression is yet another example of continuous improvement in action," he said.
The airline has completed the inspection of fuel switches on its B737 fleet following the earlier exercise on its B787s.
"In both cases, nothing untoward was found. Reliability enhancement work, using the additional ground time made available by the Pause, continues, while partial restoration of our temporary schedule reduction commences on 1st August ahead of full restoration planned for 1st October," Wilson said.
Air India is observing 'Safety Pause', the deliberate temporary scale-back of its international and domestic networks, after the crash of its London Gatwick-bound Boeing 787-8 aircraft soon after take off from Ahmedabad, killing 260 people on June 12.

Live Events However, investigators say the pilots may not have known they were too high. The helicopter's barometric altimeter showed a reading 80 to 100 feet lower than its actual altitude. This discrepancy, recorded by the flight data recorder, was not an isolated incident. Similar issues were later found in other helicopters from the same Army unit. A Sikorsky representative told AP that the crashed Black Hawk was an older model without advanced air data computers found in newer aircraft. Army Chief Warrant Officer Kylene Lewis told the NTSB, as reported by AP, that an 80- to 100-foot discrepancy between a helicopter's altimeters isn't alarming, as pilots rely more on radar altimeters at lower altitudes. Additionally, Army pilots aim to maintain their target altitude within 100 feet, making such discrepancies manageable. FAA, Army shift blame in heated testimony Throughout the hearings, the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and the Army sought to deflect responsibility. Yet testimony pointed to multiple opportunities where safer choices could have prevented the tragedy. One major concern was the extremely narrow separation distance, just 75 feet or around 23 meters, approved by the FAA between helicopters and landing aircraft at Reagan's secondary runway. This particular runway is only used in about 5 per cent of flights but played a critical role on the night of the crash. Army pilots testified that flying beneath landing planes was often routine, as long as they followed their approved routes. However, the air traffic controller never warned the passenger jet about the helicopter's proximity, assuming it wouldn't have changed the outcome. On the night of the crash, a controller asked the helicopter pilots twice if they saw the jet, and they confirmed they did, requesting visual separation. Testimony raised concerns about the crew's ability to see the plane through night vision goggles and whether they were looking in the right direction. The controller was overwhelmed with work According to NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy, the controller, whose identity remains unknown, managed 21 aircraft in the 10 minutes before the collision. He was handling both helicopter and jet traffic simultaneously. According to a Washington Post report, in his interview, he stated that he felt overwhelmed and considered asking for help, but the traffic soon became manageable. A pilot arriving just before the crash noted that the controller seemed 'exceptionally busy' and was 'not instilling a lot of confidence.' As per the AP report, the controller admitted that the plane's pilots were not warned of a collision course, believing it wouldn't have made a difference. The plane, descending to land, attempted to pull up after receiving a warning, but it was too late. Safety warnings were repeatedly ignored Years before the crash, FAA teams had raised alarms about the growing risk of helicopter operations around Reagan. In 2022, one working group urged the agency to add caution advisories to flight charts. The FAA declined. Separately, a radar facility manager wrote to the FAA recommending a reduction in air traffic due to safety risks. Those concerns also went unheeded. In her closing remarks, NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy accused the FAA of failing to act on repeated warnings. She criticized the agency for transferring out airport managers after the crash instead of addressing the root problems. 'Every sign was there that there was a safety risk,' Homendy said during the hearing. Final report due in 2026 The NTSB is expected to release its final report next year. While it is unlikely to identify a single cause, this week's hearings confirmed a troubling mix of equipment failure, institutional inaction, and operational shortcuts that ultimately led to one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent US history.

"So, in July 2025, India imported 23 per cent more crude oil from the US compared to June 2025. LNG imports reached $2.46bn in the 2024-25 financial year, nearly doubling from $1.41bn the previous year - an increase of almost 100%. Sources suggest this is just the beginning, with discussions underway for a major long-term LNG contract worth tens of billions of dollars. The energy trade surge comes as both countries express optimism about their broader relationship. On Friday, India's foreign ministry signalled confidence that bilateral ties would continue strengthening despite global uncertainties. Speaking at a regular press briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasised the resilience of the partnership between New Delhi and Washington. "India and the United States share a comprehensive global strategic partnership anchored in shared interests, democratic values, and robust people-to-people ties. This partnership has weathered several transitions and challenges. We remain focused on the substantive agenda that our two countries have committed to and are confident that the relationship will continue to move forward," he said. They want support,' said an official. Washington has imposed an across-the-board 25% tariff on all Indian-origin goods, effective August 7, along with a penalty. India's competitors, including Pakistan, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Turkey, are in the 15–20% range. The steep duty could hurt nearly half of India's exports of more than $85 billion to the US, officials said. 'The problem with 25% duty is that our competitors are slapped with lower tariffs and hence, have a tariff advantage,' said a textile industry representative. The textile industry has also flagged concerns over likely layoffs in the sector, as the US accounts for a third of India's total textile exports and the high tariff could cause a loss of business. 'The US market is price sensitive with lower design elements. The impact will be visible on core sport items like T-shirts and home textiles from September when the peak season for textiles starts,' the textile industry representative said. The US was India's largest export destination in fiscal 2025 with shipments valued at $87 billion, accounting for about a fifth of the $437 billion total.
