PM directs finalising industrial policy

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday directed the early finalization of the industrial policy to boost production and provide sustainable solutions to the challenges facing the industrial sector.
Chairing a meeting on industrial development, he emphasized that the policy must be prepared in consultation with all relevant stakeholders.
The prime minister said equipping local industries with a skilled workforce and modern technology in line with international standards was a top government priority.
During the meeting, recommendations for the development of national industries were presented to the prime minister.
Vocational training
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed to align all vocational and technical training offered across Pakistan with international standards to enhance global employability of the country's youth and boost foreign remittances.
Chairing a high-level meeting on the operations of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), the prime minister emphasized the need for globally accredited training programs to strengthen Pakistan's skilled workforce and increase its demand in international markets, a Prime Minister's Office news release said.
The NAVTTC officials briefed the prime minister on recent initiatives, including the mapping of vocational institutions nationwide and the activation of the National Technical and Vocational Training Data Management System.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday held a farewell meeting with the outgoing Country Director of the World Bank in Pakistan, Najy Benhassine.
During the meeting, the prime minister expressed best wishes for Najy Benhassine and prayed for his health and success.
"You played a pivotal role in strengthening the partnership between Pakistan and the World Bank, for which we are grateful," the prime minister said while talking to Benhassine.

After meeting its revenue target for July, the government believes that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is on track to achieve the full-year target. The development was highlighted during a weekly review meeting held in Islamabad regarding matters related to FBR, read a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Tuesday. The FBR provisionally collected over and above Rs754 billion during July 2025 against the assigned monthly target of Rs748 billion, reflecting achievement of 100.9% percent of target. Chairing the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction on the increase in the tax-to-GDP ratio, terming the development a result of reforms undertaken in the FBR. 'The federal government and I personally will fully support and safeguard the reform measures taken by the authorities,' he said. He directed authorities to ensure consistent implementation of reforms by eliminating red tape and institutional barriers. PM Shehbaz directed that in order to sustain the gains of tax collection in the ongoing fiscal year, the federation and provinces must work in coordination with an integrated strategy. 'Effective and efficient implementation of already levied taxes in the ongoing fiscal year will play a key role in further increasing tax collection,' he said. PM Shehbaz urged authorities in FBR to formulate a strategy in consultation with relevant federal agencies and the provinces, to improve the tax-to-GDP ratio. He said that the FBR and customs clearance departments should enhance their capacity in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to raise public awareness about the reformed system. During the meeting, it was told that on the special directive of the prime minister, the income tax returns form has been compiled online in Urdu. The meeting was told that approximately 84% of filers will benefit from the simplified and Urdu-based online income tax return form. It was learnt that the establishment of digital enforcement stations for customs clearance across the country is underway on a priority basis. The meeting was informed that a full implementation of the Centralized Assessment Unit (CAU) and the faceless customs system will help make the customs clearance system more efficient and transparent.

In their messages on Youm-e-Istehsal, they called upon the international community to urge India to halt its human rights crimes in IIOJK, reverse its unilateral and illegal actions of 5 August 2019 and implement the UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. President Zardari said India's move on August 5, 2019 was aimed at changing the disputed status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and weakening the right of Kashmiris to self-determination, the Pakistan Peoples Party Media Cell reported. 'Kashmir Exploitation Day' today In his message, Prime Minister Shehbaz said Youm-e-Istehsal is a sobering reminder of India's rejection of peace and stability and its pursuit of a policy of brutality and unilateralism, the PM Office said. GILGIT: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited flood-hit areas of Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday, where he expressed deep concern over the devastation caused by recent monsoon rains. He stressed that although Pakistan's role in climate change is minimal, the country continues to suffer disproportionately from global warming. He also chaired a meeting to review the damages, relief operations, and rehabilitation from the recent floods. During his one-day visit, the PM was briefed by Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Syed Mehdi Shah and Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan on the aftermath of the devastation caused by the recent rains and floods, which impacted both tourists and locals. Shehbaz Sharif expressed regret over the loss of lives and damage to property, calling it a 'national tragedy.' Nine die in floods across Gilgit-Baltistan, says official 'Despite our negligible contribution to environmental degradation, Pakistan is among the countries most affected by global warming,' the PM said. He also said the entire nation, including himself, was saddened by the losses across the country, especially in GB. 'The destruction caused by global warming, whether it is in Diamer, Ganche or other areas. Pakistan is among the top 10 countries in the world facing this destruction and losses as a result of global warming.' Urgent climate strategy and funding demanded Shehbaz directed the climate change minister to immediately prepare a national strategy to combat climate impacts and secure international funds for mitigation and adaptation. He also ordered the establishment of modern infrastructure for weather forecasting, relief preparations, and dealing with natural disasters. 'I've asked the Climate Change Ministry to act swiftly. We need to bring in funds and take serious steps to adapt,' he said. Shehbaz Sharif lauded the efforts of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the Ministry of Communications and other institutions for the prompt restoration of highways and the safe transfer of stranded people. The meeting was briefed that the July 21 cloudburst in Gilgit-Baltistan caused damage to tourists and the local population. Over 600 people were rescued and the affected highways were reopened shortly after. Five tent settlements were set up for the rescue operation, while 10 helicopters and two C-130 aircraft were used to transport people to safer places, the meeting was told. The prime minister instructed authorities to: Complete damage surveys of highways and infrastructure; Restore communication links in affected regions on priority; Ensure coordination between NDMA and provincial institutions during emergencies; Accelerate rehabilitation for monsoon-affected communities. Reaffirming his commitment to disaster resilience, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of long-term planning and readiness in the face of climate-induced natural disasters, especially in vulnerable regions like Gilgit-Baltistan. Federal ministers Abdul Aleem Khan, Attaullah Tarar, Amir Muqam, and Mosaddeq Malik were also present during the high-level briefing and review session.
