New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will have a renewed focus on youth and open new avenues for student film-makers and content creators, an official statement said on Friday.
The 56th IFFI will be held in Goa from November 20 to 28.
'With a renewed focus on youth, the festival will open new avenues for student film-makers and young content creators through curated master classes, industry workshops and networking platforms that connect new voices with global mentors,' the statement said.
The steering committee meeting was attended by I&B Secretary Sanjay Jaju, Festival Director Shekhar Kapur, NFDC Managing Director Prakash Magdum, senior officials from the Government of Goa, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC).
The meeting focused on strategic planning for the IFFI 2025, with detailed discussions on programming, outreach, talent engagement and innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing the festival's inclusivity, global positioning and public engagement.
In a move to foster greater inclusivity and creative insight into the festival's design, the steering committee has been expanded from 16 to 31 members, reflecting a more diverse and industry-representative body.
The committee includes film personalities such as Anupam Kher, Guneet Monga Kapoor, Suhasini Maniratnam, Khushboo Sundar, Pankuj Parashar and Prasoon Joshi, bringing a wealth of expertise from across cinema, production, media and cultural leadership. PTI SKU RUK RUK

Puja Pujara's memoir on life with husband Cheteshwar gets UK launch
Last Updated: London, Jul 19 (PTI) 'The Diary of a Cricketer's Wife' penned by Puja Pujara, capturing the journey of her husband Cheteshwar, found a hallowed introduction place at the Lord's Cricket Ground library and the author termed the book as 'something for everyone." In the book, Puja narrated the achievements and struggles of the India batter's international career that spanned between 2010 and 2023 from a wife's off-field perspective. 'It was a real honour to be invited to ring the bell at the Home of Cricket (during Day 3 of the third Test between India and England) and also present a copy of this memoir at Lord's," said Pujara after the formal presentation of the book at the library. The book also had a formal launch at the Nehru Centre in London on Friday. 'She has put together my entire journey, which even if I was writing an autobiography myself, I wouldn't have done that. She has captured all the moments, good and bad, very candidly," he said. In the book, Puja has tried to capture the cricketer's 'unique" journey from the streets of Rajkot to international cricket while also giving a glimpse into his character as 'stubborn, yet accommodating, secretive but with nothing to hide". 'The story is something for everyone. It's not just for cricket followers but anybody who picks up the book will find it interesting and will relate to some portion of the book in some way and get inspired," said Puja. During an in-conversation session at the Nehru Centre, she shared the strong influence of the 'Bhagavad Gita' on the couple's life – both on and off the field. 'Try and be in the present as present is everything and you can only control what is in your control – we try and relate to these teachings and practice it because the 'Gita' helps us stay more positive, be more present because you don't want to get into the negativity," said Puja. Asked about his future plans, Pujara said he is enjoying actively playing cricket and expects to be involved in the game in some form, whether it is commentary or coaching, in the longer term. Pujara's last international match was the WTC Final between India and Australia at the Lord's in 2023. 'Besides that, we both enjoy travelling and while I am actively playing cricket we don't get time for a long break, it's always more of a staycation than a holiday. So, we want to travel around the world whenever it is possible," shared the Saurashtra cricketer. Robert Lawson, Chief Executive and Secretary at the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), welcomed the addition of the new memoir to the Lord's extensive books' collection. 'It's a very courageous move by Cheteshwar Pujara himself and it's terrific that Puja feels so empowered to be able to write this and be an inspiration for everyone involved in the game, especially for women," said Lawson, as he received a copy of the book at the Lord's. 'When most of us look at cricketers, we only look at them as players on the field. But they have an important aspect of their lives outside of the playing arena and any focus on that deserves all the credit," said Sujit Ghosh, India's Deputy High Commissioner to the UK. The book, published by HarperCollins, is now available through Amazon in the UK. Late CM Karunanidhi's eldest son dies, TN CM bereaved
Chennai, Jul 19 (PTI) Late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunandhi's eldest son, M K Muthu, who was an actor and playback singer, died on Saturday due to age-related ailments, his family said. This 77-year-old actor is the elder brother of Chief Minister M K Stalin. His MP sister Kanimozhi, after hearing the sad news while attending an event in Madurai, rushed back to the city to pay her last respects. Stalin and his Deputy Chief Minister son Udhayanidhi rushed to Muthu's residence here to pay their respects to Muthu, born in 1948, who made a mark in the Tamil film industry. Informing about the demise of Muthu due to old age, the state government said his body will be kept at the Gopalapuram residence of late Karunanidhi for the public to pay their respects. His last rites will be performed this evening, the release said. 'The news that the eldest son of Kalaignar (Karunanidhi) family, my dear brother M K Muthu, passed away struck me like a thunderbolt this morning. The grief of losing my beloved brother, who showed me affection on par with my mother and father, torments me," Stalin said. Karunanidhi named him Muthu in memory of his father Muthuvel. 'Like Kalaignar, brother Muthu contributed to the Dravidian movement through plays from his youth. He had his own unique style in acting, dialogue delivery, and body language. Due to such energy and enthusiasm, he entered the film industry in 1970. He played a double role in his first film," the Chief Minister said in a post on the social media platform 'X'. Muthu is eternally remembered in the hearts of Tamil fans through the films: Pillaiyo Pillai, Pookari, Samayalakaran, and Anayavilakku, he said. 'He had a special quality that many actors do not have. He had the ability to sing songs in his own voice sweetly. The song 'Nalla Manathil Kudiyirikkum Nagoor Andava' and the song 'Sonthakaaranga Enakku Romba Perunga' are songs that many people still cannot forget," he said. He was always affectionate towards him and always encouraged him, Stalin said and added though his brother was no more he would always live in people's hearts through art, songs, and music.
