Every year, thousands of lanterns are etched with messages to loved ones lost and are set off into the water.

People who plan on attending the ceremony should consider arriving early.
Organizers estimate about 30,000 people to be in attendance and say it will be very crowded.
No parking will be allowed at the Magic Island parking lot.
There will be a free shuttle taking people from Olomehani Street in Kakaako to Magic Island starting at 7 a.m. and the last one will leave Magic Island at 9 p.m. Organizers said the shuttles are unable to accommodate strollers, wheelchairs and carts.
There will be 50% off parking at Ala Moana Center for people attending the event. For more details, click here.Ala Moana Blvd will also be closed between Atkinson Dr. and Piikoi from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Monday.
There will be no food or drink vendors on site, and organizers recommend people bring plenty food, water and shade.
Lanterns are a first-come, first-served basis and the lines can get long in the early morning hours.
There will be 6,000 lanterns available and the tent opens at 7 a.m. There will also be a halau opening the ceremony.

1995 'Casper' movie returning to theaters in October

The 1995 film returns to theaters Oct. 3 and plays through Halloween. The live-action movie stars Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci as a father and daughter who move into a haunted house. They discover the ghost Casper (voice of Malachi Pearson) is not an evil spirit at all. Devon Sawa appears as Casper's corporeal form. Ricci was 13 when the movie filmed in 1993, and Sawa was 15. Brad Silberling directed. Cathy Moriarty, Eric Idle, Ben Stein and Brad Garrett also star, with cameos from Dan Aykroyd as his Ghostbusters character, Mel Gibson, Clint Eastwood and Rodney Dangerfield. Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment produced the film, employing Industrial Light and Magic to bring the ghost effects to life. A new trailer features James Horner's score. Casper originally opened Memorial Day weekend in May 1995. Casper is based on the Harvey comics, which also inspired an animated series. Universal is also rereleasing Jaws at the end of August.

Everybody loved Raymond — Kevin James, not so much. The comedian and actor admitted he initially had doubts about his friend Ray Romano's sitcom during the July 28 episode of 'Sibling Revelry with Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson.' 'The fact that he got a show… I couldn't believe it because he's such a low-energy guy,' James, 60, said. 'Sitcom guys were, to me, like the big, wacky [characters]. I'm like this — this is death. 'Everybody Loves Raymond,' which premiered on September 14, 1996, on CBS, ran for nine seasons until 2005. When he tried to step closer to Romano, the photographers asked for Romano alone. 'It was tough,' James added.
