Top summer beauty trends from Kate Middleton's hair colour to no-smudge mascara

Daily Mirror6 days ago

From the shades of the season to must-have buys, here are the buzzwords to have on your radar as we – and experts – round up the 10 best beauty trends for summer 2025
We're now well into summer, and if you want to know what beauty products, treatments and trends are worth trying this summer, you're in luck.
We've rounded up our pick of the best viral beauty trends that you'll actually want to wear, from the products our team can't live without to inspiration for you next appointment at the hair or nail salon. Here's what's hot right now...
10 biggest beauty trends for summer 2025
Mocha bronde
Mocha Mousse is Pantone's Colour of the Year, and it's made its way to become a top hair colour trend for summer, says hair stylist and trends forecaster Tom Smith. Described by Tom as 'monochromatic and muted', at the salon ask for neutral mushroom and cool coffee tones running throughout (steer clear of caramels), and you could benefit from using a blue or purple shampoo or conditioner like John Frieda Blue Crush Blue Conditioner, currently £6.89, every couple of weeks, too.
Tubing mascara
If you find that your mascara typically doesn't last long on your lashes in hot weather, or when sweating or swimming, it's time to try a tubing mascara. Unlike traditional formulas (think of them like paint), tubing mascaras contain polymers that form 'tubes' around each eyelash, lengthening them then setting in place without smudging or flaking. They also remove differently, too, sliding off each hair with warm water and a gentle rub – making them ideal for eyes prone to stinging.
Too Faced Ribbon Wrapped Lash Mascara, £28 – read my full review of this mascara here
Revolution Wrap Lash Tubing Mascara, currently £7.99 (usual price £10.99)
K-beauty
Korean beauty certainly isn't a new trend, but with the recent launch of cult favourite K-beauty brands in the UK, such as Beauty of Joseon at Boots and Belif on Beauty Bay and Amazon, it's now easier than ever to give them a try. Korean formulas are known for being especially hydrating with a dewy finish, yet incredibly lightweight, making them ideal for summer, when applying heavy cream in hot weather might not be that appealing.
SPF superstars
Sunscreen is often seen as more of a chore than a treat, but facial SPF formulations have come on in leaps and bounds – so there's really no excuse not to wear it every day. Merit's The Uniform Tinted Mineral SPF 50, £34, launched with a waitlist of over 20,000, while beauty editors have been singing the praises of Ultra Violette Future Fluid SPF 50+ Superlight Mineral Skinscreen, £38. Created to be make-up-friendly, Olay Brighten & Glow Vitamin C Moisturising Fluid SPF 50+, £26, looks set to be the high street's big hitter – and you can often find it on offer, too.
Fruity fragrances
Perfumes take their inspiration from fruits, with juicy concoctions creating dreamy scents. Try PHLUR Peach Skin Body Mist, from £25, Ariana Grande R.E.M. Cherry Eclipse Eau de Parfum, currently £36 (usual price £45), or Jo Loves With Love From Como, £135, with zesty notes of grapefruit and clementine. And look out for a lip-smacking new launch from Jo Malone London next month.
Sunscreen oils
They're back – but with a big difference. Unlike the sometimes dangerously low (or even no) protection tanning oils of the past, Bali Body's new Watermelon Sunscreen Oil SPF 50, £22.95, comes with super-high broad spectrum sun protection for that gleaming-limb look without risking your skin. It smells incredible, too – like summer in a bottle.
Neck care
In summer there's little chance to hide under high-neck jumpers, so if you're not already paying attention to the skin under your chin, you really should be, say the experts and – judging by all the new neck creams being launched and the interest we get from readers whenever we write about them – it's clearly an area worth paying attention to. Boost Lab's Edelweiss Neck Firming Serum, £24.99, is good value with impressive shopper results, while Prai Ageless Throat & Decolletage Creme, £31.99, continues to be the best-selling neck cream at M&S.
Butter yellow
Striking the perfect balance between cute and cool, butter yellow continues to be fashion's colour of the season, with celebrities including Cynthia Erivo, Victoria Beckham and The Princess of Wales all spotted wearing outfits in the surprisingly flattering shade recently. For a low cost, low commitment way to try the trend, pick up a nail polish such as Essie's Summer Soulstice, £8.99, or OPI's Nature Strong in Make My Daisy, £18.50. In the nail salon, ask for Bio Sculpture's Alinta or The GelBottle's Sorbet shades of polish.
Berry girl make-up
Every season there seems to be a new food-themed make-up style, and this summer it's 'berry girl', made popular by Hailey Bieber (who else?) recently. Although tones of cherry, plum and raspberry worn on lips, cheeks and nails may seem more suited to winter, it's a surprisingly fresh and youthful summer look. Try Charlotte Tilbury's Unreal Blush Stick in Berry Glow, £30, and for lips, e.l.f. Glow Reviver Melting Lip Balm in Yummy Gummy, £9.
Riviera bob
Article continues below
Bobs have been trending for years, but this summer the way to wear them is bouncy and voluminous, yet slightly ruffled and undone – think Aubrey Plaza's character, Harper, in season two of The White Lotus, embracing just a touch of holiday hair humidity. To get the riviera bob look, 'ask your stylist for a straight bob cut just longer than your chin,' says Tom Smith. 'Some soft, very long layering should be cut with a shattered finish – avoid steps or blunt lines, and keep any fringe area longer and blended into the rest of the shape.'

Influencer mortified after sending content video to a brand without spotting embarrassing object in the background

AN INFLUENCER was left mortified after sending a video to a brand without spotting an embarrassing object on the shelf behind her. Beauty whizz Abi was trying out a sun cream for a sponsored clip to send to the company, and filmed herself applying it to her skin as she talked through her first impressions. 3 3 3 But what she hadn't noticed was the wand-shaped device in the background of her video. She was soon alerted to her mistake though, when she received an email from the brand. "Hi Abi. Hope you are doing well. We are so excited that you're loving the SPF," the message began. "The first draft looks great, however, we're going to have to ask you to refilm as there seems to be something on the shelf behind you that we can't advertise. "We hope you found this as funny and we did in the office and aren't too disappointed about refilming!" Abi then zoomed in on the item in question - showing that it was a sex toy. "Don't talk to me about embarrassed until you've submitted content to a brand not realising there's a (sex) toy next to your head," she wrote over the top of the video. And she added in the caption: "'We hope you found this as funny as we did in the office!' yeah ok!!!" The comments section was immediately filled with people weighing in on Abi's mistake, with one writing: "HAHAH honestly they should have left it in, their engagement would have been popping off!" "It would have been PR gold if they left it in actually!" another added. Heidi Klum's raciest confessions - from the sex CLOSET her daughter found to her suitcase full of toys "She's an icon. She's a legend. She is the moment," a third joked. "I love how it is shelf worthy," someone else commented. "AHHHHHH IM SCREAMING FOR YOU," another laughed. "Not going to lie that is hilarious," someone else admitted. While another asked: "I'm all for toys and not being embarrassed (and this is hilarious) but I just wanna know why it's on such a high shelf? "I keep mine as close to the bed as possible for convenience!" And some people even used the comments section to share their own epic sex toy fails. "My in laws just helped my husband unpack into our new house. (I'm 9 months pregnant.) They unpacked not one but two toys!" one sighed. "Want to hear one worse?" another added. "I was in a car accident and submitted progression pics of my face to my attorney and the insurance company.. with my vibrator in the background!" "I have handcuffs and a pink whip hanging on my wall…." a third wrote. "My mum walked into my room and walked right back out!"

'It's a hell of a ride!' Your favourite shows like Squid Game

Squid Game is back for a third season, and fans are no doubt binge-watching the hit Korean drama at breakneck speed. Which means many will already be looking for a similarly high-stakes, morally complex series to watch next. And while reality shows like Netflix's Squid Game: The Challenge and MrBeast's Beast Games have tried to capture the essence, the Squid Game creator has admitted they leave a 'bitter taste'. Fortunately, the world of streaming is rich with gripping K-dramas and survival thrillers that scratch the same itch — and several viewers have taken to Reddit to share their favourite Squid Game alternatives. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Explaining the premise, they wrote: 'Eight people agree to a game show where they don't know the rules. I have to warn you, it gets very dark.' And TommyRobotX added of the Korean series: 'Despite the lower stakes, they somehow made it harder to watch (anxiety) than Squid Game.' Meanwhile, Dazzling_Pipe_9910 also mentioned The 8 Show, but preferred revenge thriller The Glory. They said: 'I watched The 8 Show and The Glory after Season 2 of Squid Game…The Glory is definitely worth watching and has left a lasting impression. I'd recommend.' Another user, Pettyyoungthing, suggested Alice in Borderland, which proved to be a huge hit on Netflix when it was first released in 2020. They explained: '[It's a] Japanese show where [people] get stuck in a mix of Hunger Games and Squid Game type scenario. Hijinx ensue'. And ChattyWalker suggested dark thriller Bargain, on Paramount Plus, writing: 'It's a hell of a ride! Only 6 episodes, unfortunately, but a nice binge.' One user suggested 3%, a Brazilian series available on Netflix. Explaining the plot, they wrote: 'The majority of the population live on the improvised 'inland' and, at the age of 20, people compete to become the 3% of humanity that gets to live in the affluent 'offshore' community.' A K-drama that's received lots of comparisons to Squid Game, The 8 Show focuses on eight strangers, each facing serious financial trouble, who agree to join a dangerous reality TV show as a way of earning money. Reviews are mixed, with the show earning a respectable 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics, compared to a 66% Audience Score. One impressed audience member wrote: 'I watched the entire series in 24 hours, a first for me. I found it impossible to stop watching. The cliffhangers were great, the suspense was at a fever pitch, and the social commentary was spot on. Good comic relief as well. Highly recommend.' Another said: 'Excellent show! Every episode is unexpected and surprising. A more deep and shocking Squid Game. This show will make you reflect on the society and on human nature.' Where to watch: Stream all eight episodes on Netflix. Years after surviving being brutally bullied in high school, teacher Moon Dong-eun devises a calculated plan to make her abusers pay for what they did, unravelling their now successful lives from within. The Glory received praise from critics, with the San Francisco Chronicle writing in their review: 'Visually arresting and carefully constructed, The Glory sharpens its central theme to a fine point.' Audiences were also impressed, with viewers taking to Rotten Tomatoes to hail The Glory as 'captivating', 'beautiful' and 'a slow-burn masterpiece'. Where to watch: Stream all 16 episodes on Netflix. This Japanese sci-fi series follows 'an aimless gamer and his two friends [who] find themselves in a parallel Tokyo, where they're forced to compete in a series of sadistic games to survive'. The show, which has been compared to Squid Game in the past and even achieved a higher Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, has proved itself a hit with both fans and critics. 'This sprawling Japanese manga adaptation is rarely subtle, but its ability to deliver on wide-scale expectations make it a true TV standout,' IndieWire wrote in a season two review. Meanwhile, Google reviewer Sarah wrote: 'This is one of the best TV series I have ever watched! Season one reminded me a lot of Squid Game mixed with a little bit of Hunger Games but leaves off with a better cliffhanger.' A highly anticipated third season of Alice in Borderland is coming to Netflix in September 2025. Where to watch: Seasons 1 and 2 are available on Netflix. Described as 'addictive' in The Guardian's four-star review, Bargain is set in a remote hotel in Korea where human organs are auctioned off to the highest bidder. A synopsis adds: 'After a catastrophic earthquake, the victims, traffickers and buyers are all trapped inside the crumbling building. Cut off from the outside world, they must fight to survive the aftermath at any cost. With a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, the show has impressed critics, who have described it as 'engrossing', 'wildly unpredictable' and 'gloriously vicious'. Where to watch: All six episodes are available to stream on Paramount Plus. There are four seasons to binge of this Brazilian show, which is set in a future society where most of the population lives in poverty. But, every year, each 20-year-old gets one chance to join the privileged 3%, who have been saved from squalor and now live in a utopian paradise. More Trending The show has a very respectable 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising its twists and strong characters. Screen Rant wrote in their review: 'When 3% isn't making thoughtful observations about the human race and how we wall ourselves off from one another, it's dazzling you with clever moments and genuinely shocking twists all designed to keep you hopelessly hooked.' And Refinery29 said: 'The Brazilian show will itch the Hunger Games scratch, but still add an entirely new element of excitement.'
