Comelec 1st Division lifts proclamation suspension vs Isabela vice mayoral bet
According to a decision dated June 2, the poll body division ordered the reconvening of the municipal board of canvassers within five days for the proclamation of Respicio.
'After due deliberation and in consonance with the thrust of the Government to deliver basic and vital services but without prejudice to the resolution of this matter on the merits, the Order of the Commission (First Division) dated May 12, 2025, insofar as the Respondent Jeryll Harold Paz Respicio is concerned, is hereby lifted, effective immediately,' the ruling reads.
'The Municipal Board of Canvassers of Reina Mercedes, Province of Isabela, are directed to reconvene within five days from the receipt of this order for the purpose of proceeding with the proclamation of Respondent as the winning candidate for the position of Vice Mayor in the Municipality of Reina Mercedes, Province of Isabela,' it added.
It can be recalled the Comelec en banc has ordered the suspension of proclamation of 19 candidates for Eleksyon 2025, including Respicio, pending the resolution of the charges they are facing with the poll body.
In February, the poll body, through Task Force Katotohanan, Katapatan at Katarungan (KKK) sa Halalan, filed cybercrime charges against Respicio over a series of social media videos allegedly claiming he can manipulate the results of Eleksyon 2025. A disqualification case was also lodged against him.
Respicio, for his part, filed a petition before the Supreme Court, questioning the Comelec's move to suspend his proclamation. —AOL, GMA Integrated News

Voter registration for 2025 BSKE around 200K so far —Comelec
Around 200,000 individuals have registered so far for the 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Monday. Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia said at least 6,000 applicants registered in 18 Special Registration Anywhere Program (SRAP) sites in Metro Manila as of August 4. 'Sa aking palagay, sa buong Pilipinas nakaka-200,000 na tayo more or less. Kasi 'yung reports sa amin, coming from the field, dumadating sa atin nang pakonti-konti. Pero siyempre, later pa papadala sa amin 'yung kabuuan,' said Garcia. (In my opinion, we have around 200,000 registrants. The reports coming from the field are submitted to us bit by bit but later, the whole file will be transferred to us.) Garcia previously said the poll body is targeting to register 1 million voters for the BSKE. 'Sa amin naman, ma-reach man 'yung 1 million [registrants] or not, it doesn't matter pa rin. (Even if we reach the 1 million target or not, that is not an issue for us. We have registered 2.2 M voters from February 12 to September 30, that is a long period. Now, we are aiming for 1 million in 10 days.) The Comelec opened the 10-day nationwide voter registration for the 2025 BSKE on Friday, August 1. It is slated to run until Sunday, August 10. Voter registration in SRAP sites, however, will last until August 7. According to the poll chief, majority or 73% of registrants in some SRAP sites, including train stations, were new voters. Others were applying for voter reactivation. 'Simula pa nu'ng Friday, blockbuster. Sobrang overwhelming ng pinapakita na interes na magpa-rehistro lalo na mga kabataan,' he added. (There were a lot of registrants starting last Friday. We are overwhelmed with the interest they were showing, especially from youth.) The Comelec set up SRAP booths in various areas in Metro Manila including malls, hospitals, and airports. Meanwhile, Garcia also reiterated that Malacañang confirmed the August 12 signing of the proposed law on BSKE, saying the Comelec will resume voters registration for the elections in October until July 2026 should the polls be formally postponed. The 2025 BSKE is scheduled on December 1. — RSJ/KG, GMA Integrated News

Comelec holds special voter registration for 2025 BSKE for PDLs
Commission on Elections chairman George Erwin Garcia talks with the persons deprived of liberty during the special voter registration at the Manila City Jail in Sta. Cruz, Manila on Monday, August 4, 2025. A total of 73 female and 186 male PDLs registered during the event. DANNY PATA/GMA Integrated News The Commission on Elections (Comelec) conducted Monday a special voter registration for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Manila City Jail for the 2025 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE). Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia personally visited the satellite voter registration site, where 137 female PDLs and 186 male PDLs were expected to register for the first batch of registrants. 'Dapat talaga residente sila hanggat maaari ng lugar kung san sila boboto para makapag-avail sila ng tinatawag na PDL voting,' said Garcia. (It should be that they residents of the areas where they will vote to avail of the PDL voting.) 'Pero…pwede naman namin ilipat yung registration kung saan talaga sila later on boboto. Ang importante maparehistro,' he said. (However, we can transfer their registration in areas where they will vote. What's important is we have them registered.) According to Garcia, PDLs are entitled to vote 'until there is no final judgement of conviction.' The poll body also said the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) recorded an 88% voter turnout for PDLs in the recent May 12 elections. 'Ibig sabihin, ganun kataas ang interest ng mga kababayan natin bagamat sila ay di malaya. Ibig sabihin, nagnanais sila na pag lumaya na sila, o kahit di pa nakakalaya, magandang buhay at lipunan para sa kanilang minamahal sa buhay,' Garcia added. (This means they have a high interest in the elections despite their detainment. They also want a better life and society for their families even if they have yet to be free.) The poll body started the ten-day nationwide voter registration for the 2025 BSKE on Friday, August 1. It is slated to run until August 10. However, voter registration in Special Registration Anywhere Program (SRAP) sites will last until August 7. Marcos to sign law postponing 2025 BSKE in August
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to sign into law a proposed bill seeking to postpone the 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Friday. Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia said Malacañang informed the poll body of the law signing to be held on Tuesday, August 12. 'In-inform po tayo ng Palasyo na magkaron ng formal signing ng law on BSKE fixing of term and postponement sa August 12 at 2 p.m.,' said Garcia. (The Palace informed us of the formal signing of a law fixing the BSKE term and postponing the elections on August 12 at 2 p.m.) When asked when President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. will sign the bill, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said the public should wait for the Chief Executive's action on the matter. ''Okay, kung hindi ako nagkakamali, parang August 14 po ang pinaka-deadline, so hintayin na lamang po kung ano po ang magiging aksyon ng Pangulo patungkol po dito sa bill na iyan,'' Castro said. (If I'm not mistaken, the deadline is on August 14. So let's just wait for the action of the President as regards this bill.) The 2025 BSKE is initially set on December 1, 2025. However, the Congress, in June, ratified a bicameral conference committee report seeking to extend the term of office for the barangay and SK officials from three to four years, and postpone the elections to the first Monday of November 2026. Garcia earlier said there were 'no indication' from Malacañang the proposed measure will be vetoed despite the pending decision of Marcos. The Comelec launched the ten-day nationwide voter registration for the 2025 BSKE on Friday, August 1.
