Venezuela vows to uphold sovereignty on 214th independence anniversary
Speaking at an embassy celebration on Saturday, Chargé d'Affaires Angel Herrera delivered the message on behalf of the Venezuelan Ambassador to Cairo, Wilmer Omar Barrientos.
In the statement from President Nicolás Maduro's government, Venezuela said it continues on the path set by its founders as a free and sovereign nation, maintaining international relations based on equality and respect while defending its people's right to peace and prosperity.
President Nicolás Maduro said in the message that the declaration of independence 'declared us irrevocably free and sovereign from any colonial empire.' Speaking on the core values of the Bolivarian Revolution, he stated: 'We have done our duty! We have preserved the most precious thing that the Liberators and Commander Hugo Chávez left us: we are a free, sovereign, independent homeland, and we are at peace.'
True to the doctrine of Simón Bolívar, who led the liberation army to free other Latin American peoples, President Maduro called on world leaders to hold an urgent summit for peace and against war, in light of what he described as military escalation by Israel and the United States in West Asia.
Maduro affirmed that Venezuela's positions stem from its 'unwavering commitment to peace, disarmament, and respect for international law as fundamental pillars for coexistence among nations.' This commitment is based on principles enshrined in the Declaration of Independence issued on July 5, 1811.
The statement said that for Venezuela, the choice of independence means confronting imperial ambitions, drawing a parallel between past colonial rule and the more than 1,000 unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and its European allies. It said these attacks, based on the same ambitions as in 1811, aimed to seize Venezuela's resources and undermine its internal peace.
The government said that, as was the case two centuries ago, the Venezuelan people's decision to be free has prevailed against blockades and other forms of aggression. It stated that Venezuela is resisting this new form of colonialism and is growing through its own efforts despite economic pressure.
'Venezuela is living in peace, stability, and unity, dreaming of a promising and great future of independence, prosperity, and happiness,' President Maduro said in the statement.
The message added that the Bolivarian Revolution had made it possible to achieve social justice and equality, highlighting an increase in social investment, a strengthened public health system, and educational missions that allowed Venezuela to achieve 100% literacy.
Despite what it termed illegal sanctions, the government said Venezuela is moving forward as a sovereign state and is undergoing a sustainable economic transformation, having experienced 16 consecutive months of sustainable growth as a result of national efforts.
The statement outlined a government plan to expand social protection, where positive economic indicators are meant to translate into social well-being and equality.
Venezuela also affirmed its strong participatory democracy, noting that 32 electoral processes have been organised in 26 years under the 1999 constitution.
The government highlighted its 'successful Bolivarian diplomacy for peace,' stating that the late President Hugo Chávez revived the vision of Venezuela's liberators, placing the country at the forefront of efforts to build a multipolar world.

China Responds to EU Ban with Restrictions on Medical Device Imports
Taarek Refaat In an escalating trade dispute, China has announced new restrictions on the purchase of medical devices from the European Union, signaling a retaliatory move against EU sanctions imposed last month. The new measures, which will impact government purchases of medical devices valued at over 45 million yuan (approximately $6.3 million), come amid heightened tensions between the two economic giants. The Chinese Ministry of Finance made the announcement on Sunday, confirming that these restrictions would apply to the import of medical devices, including those with over 50% European-made components. The move follows the European Commission's decision in June to block Chinese companies from participating in public tenders for medical equipment worth nearly €60 billion ($70 billion) annually. The EU's ban on Chinese companies, implemented through the EU's international procurement mechanism which took effect in 2022, was designed to promote reciprocal access to markets. This mechanism aims to ensure that the European Union enjoys equal access to foreign public procurement markets, particularly with countries that impose restrictions on EU businesses. At the heart of this policy shift was the desire for fairness in international trade, a sentiment echoed by European officials at the time. However, the move quickly drew ire from Beijing, which saw it as a violation of the principles of open market access. In a separate statement, China's Ministry of Commerce expressed regret over the escalating conflict, stating, 'Despite China's goodwill and flexibility, the European Union insisted on imposing new restrictions and erecting protective barriers.' The ministry also emphasized that the Chinese government had 'no choice but to adopt similar measures in retaliation.' China's response underscores the growing economic rivalry between the two entities, as trade disputes between them intensify. This marks the latest in a series of retaliatory measures that Beijing has taken against European sanctions, particularly in the wake of EU tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. The Chinese Ministry of Finance further elaborated on the scope of the new restrictions, revealing that they would extend to medical devices imported from other countries, provided that more than 50% of their components are of European origin. The new regulations are set to take effect immediately. However, Beijing clarified that medical products manufactured by European companies within China would be exempt from these measures, reflecting China's ongoing efforts to balance trade retaliation with its role as a global manufacturing hub. In a parallel move, China imposed additional tariffs of up to 34.9% on European brandy, particularly targeting French cognac, for a period of five years. This action is widely seen as another retaliatory gesture in response to the EU's electric vehicle tariffs. However, several major European liquor companies, including Pernod Ricard, LVMH, and Rémy Cointreau, have managed to avoid these tariffs by agreeing to sell their products at undisclosed lower prices, according to Chinese authorities. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Israel Between the Jaws of a Mill
Written by Howayda Awad Ahmed Israel's deception of European countries and the lies it employs in the media it broadcasts to those countries, claiming that the land inhabited by the Jews is the Promised Land, and that the Palestinians are merely Arab inhabitants seeking to strip them of their Jewish identity. Because most of those countries have a mental makeup problem, namely the persecution of Jews since ancient all the crimes committed by the Zionist army against defenseless civilians and children are in defense of existence. Since Operation Flood of Al-Aqsa, European support has reached its peak at all levels. They support the Israeli existence and the defense of its land, as they claim. This support has not ceased to this day due to the Zionist media fabrications, lies, and various stories broadcast to delude the European continent into believing that they are in a state of defense of existence. Quite simply, Gaza was lost and reduced to rubble, with more than 25,000 martyrs and thousands more injured, hungry, and disabled. All this was applauded by Europe, which embraces all the ideas promoted by the Hebrew media in Europe day and night to gain positions and endless support. This was in the complete absence of international and humanitarian law, international conventions, and treaties. But a surprise recently occurred: the European conscience began to awaken slightly from its deep slumber and accepted the proposal of Spain and Ireland in 2024 and to consider the European partnership with Israel. This stems from the refutation of the position of the Israeli government and its far-right Prime Minister Netanyahu regarding US President Donald Trump's recent moves in the Middle East, the negotiations with Iran to halt its nuclear program, Trump's choice to play it alone, far from Israel, his agreement with the Houthis in Yemen, the cessation of airstrikes on Yemen, and the exclusion of Israeli ships from the agreement. Netanyahu felt anger and disappointment, and that Trump only cares about America's interests, even at Israel's expense. Matters worsened when Trump visited the Gulf last month, ignoring a visit to Israel. The situation then escalated with the establishment of mechanisms and a negotiating line directly with Hamas to secure the release of an American prisoner without any reference to Israel. Europe is following Trump's ideology directly, but this time it has adopted an independent approach, not subservient to the US position all along. It has a different stance on events in the Middle East and Ukraine, and is committed to European economic security. Europe's pent-up anger is searching for an outlet to explode from Israeli practices. We have seen France, Britain, and Canada in particular summon Israeli ambassadors, suspend talks on a free trade zone with Britain, and demand and condemn the cessation of displacement, genocide, and starvation in Gaza, and open the door to humanitarian aid. Israel's response, unfortunately, was the Gideon Armored Vehicles, an operation designed to end its plan to completely occupy Gaza, divide it, and tighten security control over it. It has thrown all European opinion, unable to ignore humanitarian and civil society organizations working in international relief, universities, and school students denouncing Israeli massacres, and bringing this matter to the International Court of Justice or the International Criminal Court. All of this has put pressure on Europe. Because the world is now governed by the logic of the jungle and double standards, Europe's position will become difficult if it does so, harming its position on the Russian-Ukrainian war. It has found it necessary to unify its position and change its direction. This has placed the entity under isolation and boycotts in various popular spheres, halting conferences and research activities, and closing some Israeli-affiliated companies. This clear and explicit threat from the European Union will have a profound impact due to Israel's violations of human rights. Israel may even lose trade relations with the European Union, which accounts for more than 30 percent of Israel's international trade. The situation is exacerbated in the practical field, including satellites and the requirements of scientific advancements in the field of computers and globalization. The issue of a European review and the suspension of the partnership between the 27 member states represented by the European Union and the practical suspension of their partnership with Israel seems a remote possibility, as it requires the unanimity of all member states. However, the good thing about what is happening is that there are more than 15 member states capable of halting trade with Israel, even if the decision is opposed by Germany and Hungary, with their significant influence. But in the end, it appears that all this opposition and skirmishes are nothing more than a purely political exercise to appease European public opinion, which has recently awakened and begun to grieve. Despite all this, the Jewish lobby abroad will not allow any resolution to emerge that opposes and undermines Israel's path of killing, destruction, and displacement. Therefore, Israel pretended to accept the pressure and allowed the entry of some food, relief supplies, and trucks, which do not meet the needs of Gaza, which is crying out for refuge. Unfortunately, this aid was used as a political bargaining chip and a weapon for Israel in a war that will only end by a miracle. Then the Zionist entity resumes broadcasting to the European media that they do not understand the gravity of the security situation and that the people of Israel are threatened by the Arabs, thus allowing its actions to go unpunished, dissolving partnerships, terminating trade agreements, and stripping it of its international immunity. Let us see what the outcome of the two-state solution conference this month at the United Nations, under French and Saudi sponsorship, will be, and what recommendations it may ultimately unravel. Then Israel resumes broadcasting to the European media to stop European decisions, using the old priesthood of anti-Semitism and its influence on European commercial, political, economic, social, and even humanitarian decision-makers. Israel will not abandon its old dream of extending the Nile to the Euphrates and its project of regional expansion in Lebanon, Syria, and all the countries of the Arab region. It will maintain a state of no war, no peace, and insecurity, which will make all the countries of the region aware that future expansionism will not stop as long as the United States and the European Union take a position of objection at times and rejection at other times, to silence the peoples of the world.

China retaliates against EU with a ban on European medical devices - International
China said Sunday that European medical device companies will be barred from selling to the Chinese government as a countermeasure for the European Union's restrictions on the sale of similar products from China. European companies will be excluded if the budget for procurement is above 45 million yuan ($6.28 million), according to a notice from the Finance Ministry on Sunday with the restrictions in place the same day. The move will not apply to European companies that have invested in China and that manufacture goods in the country. China on Friday imposed anti-dumping duties on European brandy, most notably cognac produced in France. While the duties on brandy include several exceptions for major brandy producers, China and the EU have multiple trade disputes across a range of industries. China protested after many European countries levied duties on EVs made in China. Since then, China has also launched investigations into European pork and dairy products. In June, the EU announced that Chinese companies were to be excluded from any government purchases of more than 5 million euros ($5.89 million). The measure seeks to incentivise China to cease its discrimination against EU firms, the EU said, accusing China of erecting "significant and recurring legal and administrative barriers to its procurement market.' In response, China has said it had 'no choice but to implement countermeasures.' 'China has repeatedly expressed through bilateral dialogues that it is willing to properly handle differences with the EU through dialogue and consultation and bilateral government procurement arrangements,' said a statement from a spokesman with the Ministry of Commerce. 'Unfortunately, the EU has ignored China's goodwill and sincerity and still insisted on taking restrictive measures and building new protectionist barriers.'
