Laurie Metcalf to Star in ‘Little Bear Ridge Road' on Broadway
The production, directed by Joe Mantello ('Wicked'), will mark the return to Broadway of the producer Scott Rudin, who in 2021 paused his producing activities and resigned from the Broadway League amid reports of bullying behavior toward assistants and others.
Rudin is producing the show with Barry Diller, the billionaire media mogul who has frequently backed his shows.
The play is scheduled to begin previews Oct. 7 and to open Oct. 30 at the Booth Theater for an 18-week limited run.
Hunter, the playwright, is best known for 'The Whale,' which was adapted into a 2022 film. He was raised in Idaho and many of his plays are set there and feature socially isolated working-class characters. This will be Hunter's first play staged on Broadway.
'My initial impulse for writing the play — which I told to Joe and Laurie, and I credit them that they still had faith in me after I said this — is that I wanted to write a play about people watching television,' Hunter said in a telephone interview. 'That was the platform for the play, but the play became this story of this aunt and this nephew who have almost no relationship, and a lot of painful history between them, hunkering down together during the pandemic, and both of them trying to figure out a path forward in a deeply complicated reality.'

This Washington-Distilled Rye Has Flavor Well Beyond Its Age
Woodinville Rye Aged 8 Years Among American whiskey fans, Woodinville Whiskey Co. has gradually made a name for itself with reliable bourbon and rye. Perhaps even more standout are the brand's forays into cask finishing. While other producers often use secondary maturation to differentiate sourced whiskey, Woodinville has shown a penchant for experimenting with its own distillate, utilizing port, tequila, and a variety of other casks to push flavors. But Woodinville's most noteworthy whiskey this year—at least so far—doesn't lean into cask finishing at all. Instead, it's the brand's oldest-ver rye whiskey, and eight year-old that, depending on personal flavor preferences, might just border on stunner. On June 7th, the Moët Hennessy-owned distillery officially released Woodinville 100% Rye Aged 8 Years. The grain for this 100% rye recipe—meaning it contains no other grains, a relatively uncommon practice for American rye whiskey—comes from a family farm in Quincy, Washington. The train is transported to Woodinville for mashing, fermentation, and distillation. It's then trucked back to Quincy for maturation. That aging environment has done a number on this rye, and even proofed to a relatively normal 50% ABV, the color is incredibly dark, like a deep, unfiltered molasses. The nose is big on fruitcake, brandy-soaked raisins, dark molasses, sweet mint gum, cured tobacco, and birch bark. That's all underpinned by a hint of rosemary, which builds in intensity with time in the glass. A first sip once again brings lots of dark fruit like black raisins and plums, along with a pleasant interplay between hefty oak and (surprisingly) agave syrup. Clove, rye spice, cedar, spiced cherry, leather, and funky brown sugar BBQ sauce round out the palate. The finish leans further into sweet, funky molasses before sticking the landing with a bit of sherry and (though I wouldn't have minded a touch more viscosity here). If you're into oak, enjoy, because there's lots of it at the end. It's a somewhat dry final act, which could be a positive or slight negative, depending on the drinker's personal preference. Ultimately, Woodinville has produced one of the most fascinating American rye whiskeys thus far in 2025, with bold flavors that don't pull punches. It's not the most classically 'elegant' pour, instead unabashedly showcasing aged rye grain for all its sweet, herbal, and fruity notes. To some, it may sound like sacrilege to experiment with dilution for a 100 proof rye, but there's lots more a little water can unlock here. Bronson Reed cut a promo of his own, but was met with 'what' chants. Reed, who faces Jey Uso later on, reminded fans that he stuck Rollins with six Tsunamis and gained Seth's respect. Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman each cut promos as well. Chants of 'OTC' and 'CM Punk' went unanswered by the babyfaces. Heyman cut a promo in Spanish on Penta, whom he vowed would take a beating from Rollins. Kairi Sane Def. Roxanne Perez Backstage, the Judgment Day held a vigil for Liv Morgan, but Raquel Rodriguez reminded them—particularly Roxanne—that Liv wasn't dead and she's be back soon. Ever the pessimist, Finn Balor said it took him eight months to come back from his shoulder injury. AJ Styles left a 'Get Well Soon' cake behind for Dominik Mysterio, who continues to heal from injury. Despite backup from Raquel Rodriguez, Roxanne Perez suffered an upset loss to Kairi Sane. Perez and Rodriguez ganged up on Kairi, but Asuka made the save. Adam Pearce booked the Kabuki Warriors in Sunday's women's tag team match. Bron Breakker Def. Sami Zayn Sami Zayn was ambushed by Karrion Kross during his entrance. Zayn, who already had his ribs taped up, was bludgeoned by a pipe-wielding Kross. As Breakker entered the ring, he looked at a wounded Zayn the way a predator looks at his prey. Predictably, Breakker dominated the match from the offset. Zayn fought back valiantly, but was cut off in midair with a wicked Spear from Breakker. Rhode Island barked in approval as Michael Cole begged fro the match to start. Breakker followed up with a 360 Spear as Cole begged Adam Pearce to 'Stop the damn match.' Rhode Island disagreed as they chanted 'One more time!' Breakker split Zayn in half with a third Spear for the win. Becky Lynch, Lyra Valkyria And Bayley Brawl Becky Lynch cut a delusional promo about being Intercontinental champion. She was interrupted by Bayley, but before Bayley could make it down the ramp, Bayley was interrupted by Lyra Valkyria. Lyra cut her best promo to date. She was confident, if not heelish. After Bayley said she doesn't need any partners or friends, Lyra said she needs to be more like Bayley and become more selfish. Bayley mocked Lyra for losing to Becky Lynch only to 'Raise her hand like a little bitch!' A brawl ensued, building to Sunday's Triple Threat match. Jey Uso Def. Bronson Reed By DQ Jey Uso fought from underneath early on, but then it was relatively back-and-forth. Uso went for a Suicide Dive, but reed threw a chair in Jey's face for the disqualification. After two Tsunamis, WWE officials hit the ring to top Reed from doing more damage. Cole insisted this match was never about winning. El Grande Americano Def. Dragon Lee Fans cheered El Grande Americano (Ludwig Kaiser) during his entrance. Micheal Cole spent the entire match doubting this was the real El Grande Americano, while Corey Graves played dumb. Cole pointed out hos small El Grande's mask looked on him, and Graves said it he was wearing it snug so it didn't slip off. Michael Cole pointed out the fact that El Grande Americano had no tattoos, but Corey Graves said he had a tattoo removed this morning.
