The minister has directed us to ensure that dues are paid and there will be no new projects,' said an official who attended the meeting.
Pawar has also asked to take the review of the pending road works for more than a year. 'There are works which did not start for more than a year despite administrative approval. Directions have been given that those works will be cancelled,' said the official.
The associations of Maharashtra's contractors and engineers have been demanding their dues from the government since last year. Rajiv Anand to help realise full potential of IndusInd Bank, says promoter Ashok Hinduja

Synopsis IndusInd Bank promoter Ashok Hinduja has extended full support to newly appointed CEO Rajiv Anand, who will assume charge on August 25. Anand's appointment follows leadership exits and financial setbacks, including a ₹2,329 crore loss in Q4. Hinduja praised the RBI for its swift approval. The bank expects Anand to unveil a long-term strategy as it moves past past issues. Agencies IndusInd Bank promoter Ashok Hinduja on Tuesday said the lender's newly appointed chief executive and managing director, Rajiv Anand, will help realise the full potential of the bank. The promoter grouping will offer "full support" to Anand, Hinduja said. "As the promoter of IndusInd Bank, we offer full support and wish him all success," he said in a statement that comes after the announcement of Anand as the candidate to lead the troubled lender. Several senior executives in IndusInd Bank, including the CEO Sumant Kathpalia, resigned over the last few months, necessitating the new appointment. The bank, which is under an interim management, has owned up to fraud, under-reporting of non-performing assets and other drawbacks, which led it to post a Rs 2,329 crore loss for the March quarter. After it swung back to black in the June quarter, the interim management has assured that there are no problems from the past which are yet to be recognized, and added that the new CEO will come out with a detailed strategy on the medium to long term strategies once he or she joins. "I compliment the regulator for the expeditious approval of the appointment of Rajiv Anand as the MD and CEO at Indusind Bank," Hinduja said. The IndusInd board, basis approval of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), at its meeting held on August 4 approved the appointment of Rajiv Anand as 'Additional Director' in the category of Managing Director and CEO and Key Managerial Personnel of the bank for three years, IndusInd Bank said in a late evening regulatory filing on Monday. Anand's appointment is for three years, and will be taking over the reins at the troubled lender on August 25. It can be noted that a few years ago, the bank's promoter had received the RBI nod to raise its stake in the bank to 26 per cent from the present level of around 15 per cent. The bank scrip closed 1.90 per cent up at Rs 819.20 a shares on the BSE on Tuesday, as against a 0.38 per cent correction on the benchmark. PTI

File image/Reuters India is 'actively involved' in discussions for a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) with the United States, with the goal of expanding trade and investment and deepening the commercial relationship to promote growth, national security, and job creation, said Jitin Prasada, Minister of Commerce, in a written response to the Lok Sabha on August 5. The answer came only hours after India issued a strong statement in response to US President Donald Trump's social media post threatening New Delhi with extra tariffs on its oil trade with Moscow. President Trump has threatened to hike tariffs on India 'substantially' for importing Russian oil, accusing New Delhi of benefitting from Moscow's fuel during the continuing war in Ukraine. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The Trump administration has yet to elaborate on the extra taxes. Negotiations for a trade agreement between India and the United States began in March 2025, and five rounds of discussions have been place thus far, the most recent in July. Talks for a mini-version of a deal before August 1 appear to have failed, as divergences continued, particularly on agriculture. Regarding the efforts being taken by the government to protect critical industries such as agriculture, Prasada stated that international trade agreements allow for the inclusion of sensitive, negative, or exclusion lists - groupings of commodities that get restricted or no tariff concessions. On August 5, Prasada said, 'In addition, in case of surge in imports and injury to the domestic industry, a country is allowed to take recourse to trade remedial measures such as anti-dumping and safeguards on imports within the periods as mutually agreed to by the parties under FTAs.' On July 30, Trump declared a 25 percent tax and an undisclosed fine on India for acquiring Russian energy supplies and defence equipment. Responding to the ongoing trade discussions with the United States, MoS for Agriculture Ramnath Thakur stated that the government has always prioritised farmers' livelihoods and interests, as well as food security concerns, while negotiating deals with international partners, including the United States.
